The following is from an article written by long time, Davis Enterprise scribe, Bob Dunning:

"A CLASSY MOVE … Although the Aggie Band did not make the trip to South Dakota State, when UC Davis players ran onto the field just before the start of the game they were greeted with the strains of Aggie Fight playing loudly over the Dykhouse Stadium public address system.

As I listened to the familiar sounds I had known since childhood, I imagined I was wrong about the Band not making the trip. Still, as I looked around the field and out onto the vast prairie beyond, there was no Aggie band in sight. And from my vantage point at the top of the stadium, I could see all the way to Minnesota.

I was struck by what a kind gesture it was of SDSU officials to think of greeting the Aggies in this way.

But that was not all. The same tune was played loudly again after the Aggies scored their first touchdown. I have honestly never seen such wonderful consideration of a worthy opponent in my many decades of covering college football.

Someone back there in South Dakota has a heart of gold."

I think in the playoffs you have to play hype videos for the opposing team and some other stuff. It is mandated by the NCAA I believe. I could be wrong. Somebody else fill in the holes here

NDSU has played intros of other schools before during the playoffs.

No, this is correct. Even at the Fargodome, we will see/hear SIU's hype video/audio. Also, the Shooting Star Casino will no longer exist... ;) I don't remember about the 1st down calls during the playoffs, but in Frisco, it is for both teams.

Allowing the visiting team their normal pre-game entrance sequence is required if requested. I don't think playing the other team's fight song after they score is required so that's certainly a nice gesture. I believe it was ol' Stiggy who once said that all playoff games are supposed to be "neutral" (which I believe is what led to NDSU starting to play the opposing team's entrance video if they so chose) so wouldn't doubt if this is his influence.

Honestly. I thought if the other team requested it the host team is required to do it and I thought it was driven by the NCAA. We can’t announce the team makers raffle winner or any of that normally “local” stuff.

Yeah, that's right. Technically you're not even supposed to do any special PA crowd prompts like "And that's another BISON...". I remember that very first home playoff game against Robert Morris back in 2010 the PA guy Dan Michaels was very much muted compared to the regular season and just gave the golf style announcements after each play. Then they went on the road to Bozeman and Cheney later in the playoffs and realized that no one followed the "neutrality" rules on the PA and the rest was history.

Same thing here. When we started getting back into the playoffs years ago our PA announcer was basically neutral in announcing things. It doesn't take long to realize that other schools aren't abandoning those things so it gets more like the home games after a bit. But it's still more subdued than a regular season game. I think it's harder to enforce PA announcements because with a little adjustment the words can basically be the same for both teams but the emphasis and inflection can make it quite different. Pregame intros, etc. are more noticeable when they're handled differently.

As I understand it, the playoff games are presented/produced by the NCAA not (insert school name) and are supposed to be neutral in how the opposing teams are treated.

In its pre-game performance, the Notre Dame marching band plays the fight song of its opponent as a welcome to its guests.

ETSU’s PA guy will have a problem with this, methinks, if he’s supposed to be neutral.

Everything up there was great on my 1st & only visit a few weeks ago…but FUBeAR did note the PA guy was more than a bit ‘over the top’…kinda high schoolish homer sounding. We all have come to expect the sponsored, overly energetic 1st down calls for the Home Team & similarly for 3rd down when the Visitors have the ball, but going too far just ‘junks up’ the game. Can’t even cite specifically what the ETSU guy was doing/saying that annoyed me…because I just tuned him out fairly early to focus on the great game and all of the other ‘goodness’ about the GameDay experience at ETSU.

1st time home Playoff game in 25 years though…so FUBeAR imagines he’s gonna annoy the heck out of the Kennesaw fans present…all 7 of them.

That's fairly common at many schools with bigger bands. I know when we played at U of Illinois in 2018, during pregame, the Marching Illini angled towards the visitors section and played our fight song towards us.

I don't understand the neutrality policy. It's home field advantage for a reason.

You cant believe the **** ass atmosphere the NCAA has for play off games. Constantly seeing replays of other teams not in the playoffs really sucks. You cant do this you cant do that. JFC

Even the way the game stats are displayed has rules.

the PA announcer/videoboard/etc. SHOULD be neutral, giving both teams fair representation. I wish the NCAA enforced that better.
the home team would still have home field advantage because they are more used to the stadium, didn't have to travel, and would (generally) have the majority of the crowd rooting for them.

Agreed. Homefield advantage for a reason.

Yes…NDSU, with a Home Playoff record of 28-1, with the visiting Team’s Offense playing inside a jet engine running at max speed, while NDSU’s O plays in a pre-snap mausoleum, needs MORE of a Home Field advantage.

C’mon.

The building isn’t noisy anymore and we lose games at home once in a while. SDSU has beaten us in there a couple times.

Nova PA system played a Holy Cross hype video and their fight song as they came into the field, so yes, it’s absolutely required in the playoffs.
