Here's a preview article published today in the Springfield News-Leader:

http://www.springfieldnewsleader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070905/SPORTS0401/709050364/1002/SPORTS

Two things to consider:

-The Bears are on 6 days' rest, the Hawks are on 4.

-The Bears starting D-line this year combined for all of four tackles last season, which should loom large when going up against Chapman of UTM.

My prediction...

Missouri St. 21
UT-Martin 31

If any UT-M fans want to discuss the game, feel free to hop on over to www.letsgobears.com and enter our discussion board by clicking on the "Bears Basketball Forum".

I think it will be a good game. I don't think Missouri St. will put 21 on the board, however. 31 sounds about right for UTM. They will want to show us, the fans, that they are going to be a force to reckon with. You making the trip down to Martin, Douglas?

hawkeye
September 5th, 2007, 09:41 PM
UTM has 2 offensive line players out as well as a key defensive line player. After holding their own Saturday against Southern Ms., Im sure it has taken its toll. Were really banged up and will limp on the field Thursday night.(Do I sound like Lou Holtz or what?!?!) Kidding. UTM's experienced offense will be on octane Im sure. Defense is young but Boone will have them ready. Last year against the no huddle the defense seemed to be more aggressive than ever. We will see. 31-21 looks close.

No, I won't be there. I almost was going to make the trip, but there was a death in the family and I won't even be listening to the game now.

The players that are hurt -- where are they on the depth chart?

they have punted once tonight. they have done really well completing their drives. UTM, on the other hand, has done poorly. Turn over on downs on the 2 yard line is just one of the many problems we are having.

First of all, I would like to congratulate Missouri State on a well played game. Anytime you can put up 51 points against a top 25 team, your doing something right. On another note however, i am very disappointed in UTM's defense. It was a TOTALLY different defense than that which played against Southern Miss. Missed tackles hurt us a lot. However, a bad game on defense is something i can deal with. Theoretically, we can fix that. Something that i cant deal with is the Refs tonight. I have NEVER, NEVER, seen a group of refs take over the game like they did tonight. And in take over the game, i mean that in a very bad way. Yes, MO state put up over 50 points on the board. Congrats, you should be very ecstatic to do that, i know i would be if i was a missouri st. fan. As a UTM fan, it seemed every time we had a big play, or even a good pay, there was some kind of penalty. I'm starting to ramble now, but i am very upset as a fan tonight. If someone else was at the game, please tell me if i am being one sided in this thought, but it frustrated me to no end. Anyways, what done is done. Congrats MO State, looking forward to playing yall again.

All time record MO State 5-0

I attended the game. It was'nt the Referees.....mistakes were made by ALL parties involved....thats life....

But I would suggest you talk to #90, who hit 3-4 Mo-State players with forearms and elbows as he left the field in front of the officials!

#57 another one who had several altercations....

I have never heard of the home team complain about the officiating, it usually goes the other way.

Thats sad about #90, and honestly, i hope they do something about that. That is not a way to represent your team, or your university. However, i didn't see it, as i left with seconds remaining, right after we used our final to. To me, it just seemed that the personal fouls weren't be called both ways. Maybe i had sunglasses on, but either way, i was/am upset. But as you said, that is life. Be careful heading home!

The defense is ready....they held UTM to 2-3 4th downs and OUT...couple 4th downs and 1 yard scores

handful of 4th down successful and missed field goals

4th qtr run by UTM is to be expected of the home team (UTM 235 yds in the 4th qtr!)

They played a helleva game...there were some missed fatigue tackles and they (MSU) just ran out of gas in the fourth...but did'nt break!

In the 4th they made the tackles that prevented UTM from turning the tide.....

Sack....couple of open field tackles by the LB Corps

KSU will NOT take MSU lightly...the possibility is a distinct reality....after ASU & Michigan

Go Bears!!!

I could not agree more. I hope there are some attitude adjustments this week. I really dont know if this game was terrible defense or excellent offense. My God it looked like a tennis match. MSULB#47
September 7th, 2007, 12:26 PM
They were OVC refs.

The officiating was balanced. It would have gotten out of hand If they were NOT heavey handed in dolling out penalties.

There were some phantom calls on MSU also, particulary....

The Chapman fumble, inside the 4 yd line, 3rd down, NO FLAG.....

UTM lineman, picks up fumble, THROWS ball forward towards goalline, goes out of bounds....

Penalty called against UTM, illegal forward advance of the ball, If we take the penalty, its 10-15 BACK? AND loss of down, correct? (I could be wrong)

Oh wait, side judge runs in, 5-8 minute discussion, keep in mind NO FLAG has been thrown PRIOR to the UTM illegal advance call.....

Announcement: "Incidental Face Mask Call on....uuh....MSU...half the distance to the goal...3rd down <whistle blows>":D

MSU Fans response......after the subsequent score....
