Game Thread - YSU @ Southern Illinois

YSU raps up the season playing SIU on the road. Local papers pick the Dogs to beat the Guins 42-20. I tend to agree and project SIU the winner, 41-17.

YSU remains without its starting OTs and maybe it’s QB. SIUs QB ripped the Guins last time they played and I expect a repeat from him again as the YSU D is terrible. Look for their QB to pile up running and passing stats.

My preseason prediction of a 2 win season is on the line. However I suspect it’s safe as quite a few players just want the season over. I’ll be watching the game to critique the coaching staff as they wrap up a miserable season where they have been badly out coached.

Seriously though, how in the hell did YSU beat 2 solid playoff teams and lose 7 other games?

Out of all the loses YSU sustain SDSU was the least impressive.. should have beat WIU, INDY ST, and UND.. Skull drug by UNI and NDSU..

Preseason I projected 2 wins to come from 3 games - the opener, UIW and league games with Indy St. and WIU, both projected to be bad teams. YSU always blows one game a year they should win. However both Indy St. and WIU beat them.

UIW actually outplayed them but lost in OT. Story there was UIW had a poor D and YSU had a home game where first game mistakes usually hurt a road team in an opener while friendly confines tend to give an edge over a game where anything can happen. Opener are where you want to play someone who is better as it’s your best chance to win where playing them later in the season where they are a juggernaut they would steam roll you.

MSU was simply a case where they commit 4 turnovers, have major penalties at inopportune times, have a few injuries and play a game that Petrino goes bonkers in. It happens. That game they win 9 out of 10 tries otherwise.

YSU will finish in the basement, 11th out of 11 teams. They looked it preseason. They look it at seasons end. They look the same next year. Well developed ? Well coached ? Well recruited?

For once YSUs DBs showed off their skills. Best athletes on the team and even when SIU QB had all day to throw, they covered extremely well. Looks like YSU is going to over perform on the season by winning a 3rd game.

This game is proof that statistics are like bikinis - what they reveal is interesting, what they don't reveal is even more interesting.

SIU will probably back in at 7-4 because of the weak bubble, but we won't be around long if we do. Probably get beat by a team from outside the MVFC.

Well well well... YSU arguably the best 3-7 team in the FCS. Seriously this is sad that YSU couldn't play ball out all year.. 22 will be a tall tell year for the program. The schedule is set for 6 home game that are winnable. 5 road games 3 easy L's NDSU, SDSU and UK..

8-3 can be achieved but I believe the transfer portal needs to be very good to the flightless birds..

McLaughlin with another monster game. 25 carries, 185 yds and 3 TDs. That all happened with poor line blocking and he was running back and forth looking for a seam to run thru or bounce outside. SIU playing like a JV also helped.

Early look next year is not good. Typical early schedule with weenie teams Dayton and Duquesne and then FBS Kentucky. But Valley schedule only has 2 teams that look beatable with this roster. Current H.S. Recruiting is not going well again. Transfer portal or bust.

If DP was smart, he would gut the overload of local players and find better in Florida, Cal.,Texas and Georgia.

Didn't realize it but YSU was ranked #1 in strength of schedule [emoji15]

Also finished the year at a 100% red zone efficienty. Just didn't get to the red zone enough hence 3-7 lol..
