Very cool. I hope the article that accompanies it is well written, well researched and not full of inaccuracies.

Agreed 100% - I think my favorite thing about the 9/10/2007 cover is that THIS was their 8/20/2007 Cover

http://i.timeinc.net/subs2/images/si/sistore/products/2007/0820MI_mid.jpg

I'd say that run came up a bit short...

Very nice though.

Those were regional covers for the SI preview. I think they made six of them. I got the one with West Virginia's Steve Slaton on the cover.

Lenoir-Rhyne 34, Appalachian State 32

Correction, that should read Lenoir Rhyne 34 - ASU 132.

I'm hoping the jinx waits until the Mountain Men come to Gibbs Stadium.

Well I have to admit I am very interested in the 15th against NAU and then the week after against you guys.

I never put a lot of stock in the results of a I-A game win or lose ( but this one was impressive), same thing for D-II.

Looking forward to how the first to FCS games match up

Oh, how quickly we forget this one, because SWAC football has deteriorated in quality (no smack, just honest analysis):

Oops, I missed that one. I was looking on SI's website and chose to narrow the search to College Football covers. I guess it didn't bring them all up.

im pretty sure they put UNC on there more than once when they won their national championship, same for duke. with that said, appalachian being on the cover has just as much or more importance to its university and those two have ever had.

Yep - remember it well...1989: Frank Baur had a deadbeat season cause of the aggravation of a bone spur on his throwing arm...Nowhere near as good as he was the previous year. How come LC didn't get a SI cover after upsetting Notre Dame in basketball in 1988?

Although Duke and UNC have been on the cover alot, I think AppMan was saying specifically for football.

It's not like the FBS schools in North Carolina have had great football teams or something. To most of them, football is something you do waiting for basketball season.

The article in the SI with App State on the cover has a tremendous article about U of Miami's new coach, Randy Shannon. While the school and it's athletes are fully deserving of the reputation they've earned in the past 2 decades, it's hard not to root for Shannon to be successful after reading the article.
