Since 2010, 8 of the 9 teams in the NEC have won a conference title and gotten into the playoffs (Monmouth won one elsewhere). I'd say he's doing pretty damn well for a coach in his first year, playcalling and all. He just took his team into Cheney and beat the #1 ranked offense in the country (which almost nobody on this board is talking about, btw).

You complaining of a tired narrative does not make the narrative wrong. It just means you are prolonging it by complaining about it (see this and previous few posts).

Brent Vigen was a fairly unimaginative OC while at NDSU, but his offenses did perform well enough to allow the team to be successful (see discussions about defense in multiple locations on. this board…another tired narrative, I suppose, so I’ll leave that dead horse alone.

Yes, his team is doing well, and I think overall, Bison fans are happy to see it. In fact, I think there was even a “Vigen hired at Montana State” thread on AGS to that effect that was generally positive (typing on phone, so can’t verify this easily).

Congratulations on his team’s success, but you do realize that his team was a national semifinalist the last time they played (with a different coach). Like Bison teams Brent was involved with previously, they are winning games, because they have a really good defense, and their offense is doing enough to be successful. Teams winning meaningful games through strong defense and adequate (and supportive offense) is the blueprint, and he knows it and is following it, but let’s not confuse him for an offensive genius.

Not to mention awful game management. I mentioned this on the other board, but…

EWU, down by 3, punted on 4th. & 3 with 2:19 to go.
After punting, EWU didn't use a timeout after MSU's first run play (EWU had 3 TOs).
In the Weber loss 2 weeks ago, Eastern—trailing by 1 with ≈3:00 left—elected not to do the onside kick even though a Weber unsportsmanlike penalty allowed them to kick off from midfield.

My fault, ursus. It was the wee hours when I posted and totally forgot that we play Alcorn St at their place next week where they have 2 losses and also 2 SWAC games left, as we do. I actually think they have a shot to get the #1 seed. Wins over EWU & Montana would be better than anything SH has and both would be 10-0 against FCS competition.

While I don’t disagree with this, they would be undefeated, have the longest current win streak in FCS, be the defending national champs, and have returned most of same roster. I just don’t see anyone (even Montana State with 1 FBS loss) swaying the committee, but it is possible.

Two things:

The playcalling today was just fine. I really don't care what NDSU fans say about Vigen's playcalling. And did you notice the Cats WON THE GAME!?

I'm pretty sure Vigen contributed to NDSUs success in plenty of games.

The "Vigen's playcalling is suspect" narrative is tired.

I did notice that the Cats won. But, like I said, it looks like we are winning in spite of the offense’s inability to finish off drives. That game should’ve/could’ve been something like 40-20. The play calling on those couple of first half drives where the Cats didn’t score in the red zone, was weird to say the least. I am hoping that the Cats continue to win and it looks like they will, but I’d love to beat the Griz 48-14 instead of 17-14.

Yeah I agree that SH would still get the 1 seed, but it certainly is possible and thought worth mentioning.
