There are 19 FCS teams with fewer than 100 points. Most are in the 70s and up.
Lehigh has nine points. Second-worst is LIU with 32.
I didn’t know the Blackbirds had moved to FCS. That step was taken in 2019. NEC.

LIU migrated from DII - I think a combination of CW Post and another Long Island school. However I think LIU has had a brutal schedule - I know they played West Virginia... and, Lehigh and LIU were supposed to meet last year. xlolx

To answer your questions, when you say, 'started' ,I assume you meant starting the season 0-6. Yes, in 1965 Lehigh was 0-8 going into game 101 (#100 ending in the infamous 6-6 tie), and 'upset' the 'pards 20-14. The following year, 1966, Lehigh went 0-9, and in 1967, won their opener against Ithaca, but went on to lose the remaining 8 games. From 1965-1967,Lehigh was a combined 2-25.

1926 also started the season 0-7, having lost the final 5 games of the 1925 season, for a 12 game losing streak, which we tied against Penn, counting the three 'Spring' games of 2021. 1901 we went 1-11, starting the season 0-7.

I reckon their will be more Lehigh fans at Goodman than 'pard fans. Indeed, if we come in at 0-10, it would be an unbelievable upset that no one would want to miss.

My picks for this weekend:
Fordham 48 Lehigh 13
Georgetown 24 Bucknell 17
Holy Cross 35 Colgate 24

Especially if winless Lehigh somehow managed to derail a Lafayette bid for a share of the Patriot League championship. It's still very possible the Leopards enter the final game with the opportunity to accomplish that.

LIU, meaning former CW Post? Didnt know they were the Blackbirds, but then again we havent played them in 40 years - October 31, 1981. I guess poignant considering blackbirds! EDIT: did some checking and the LIU Brooklyn football team that stopped playing in WW2 was the Blackbirds. LIU purchased the CW Post estate out in Brookville LI to accomodate growth and the sports teams were merged prior to start of 2019 fall seasons. The LIU Post team was known actually as the Pioneers and LIU Brooklyn retained the Blackbird name. The combined sports programs were renamed the Sharks. So it is LIU Sharks. They were winless in their first season and about a month after final game the starting QB Clay Beathard (younger brother of NFL QB C.J. Beathard) was stabbed to death along with another young man outside the Dogwood bar in midtown Nashville. Both men lived in the Nashville area.

Wheat really separating from the chaff at this point in the season, if I may use an agricultural metaphor for a decidedly non-agricultural league (perhaps this is penance for losing to SUNY-Ithaca). Two relatively easy picks here, but some intrigue in the other matchup. All but finished with OOC matchups, so it's essentially down the stretch run from here on in. 3-1 last week (sigh), 25-13 for the season

Lehigh at Fordham Fordham Prop bet to watch for here, will Lehigh finally get to the end zone? The opponents' end zone, I want to clarify. I say no, that probably comes later in the season. Certainly much more drama there than in the actual result. Fordham is a contender (the wheat, if you will), while Lehigh is...not.

Georgetown at Bucknell Bucknell Toss-up of the week to see who finishes above Lehigh in the standings. Both teams have one win in the books, and comparing those victories gives a slight edge to the...Hoyas, I guess (road rally vs Delaware State against home win vs Cornell). Bison are at home, which also feels like a slight edge on its own. Both teams smarting from a beating by contenders, and I'll take the home team.

Colgate at Holy Cross Colgate This could have been the League's marquee matchup of the weekend, the two-time defending champs against a rising contender in an interesting setting. That falls apart under the harsh light of reality, however nice it is to see Colgate with an unbeaten League record. The Crusaders bounced back nicely from a beating against Harvard to get their first home win of the year, do they shrink a bit under the new setting? Who knows, I'm reaching for straws here. Maybe Brenneman plays...

Disturbingly tragic turn about LIU's QB at the end though.

Nice refresher. I recall us (Lehigh) playing CW Post back in the early '70s at Taylor Stadium. They had a very good QB, who I believe had a cup of coffee in the NFL, but cannot remember his name.

167: Holy Cross
177: Fordham
210: Lafayette
240: Georgetown
242: Colgate
249: Bucknell
252: Lehigh

Sagarin can be weird. 0-6 Albany is No. 200.

Below Lehigh but ahead of “Unranked Team” (where can I get the T-shirt?) are in order: winless Wagner, Morgan State and our new favorite LIU Post, and the bottom three, Presbyterian, Stetson and Butler, which each have two wins but presumably over lower-division schools.

In the Win50% analysis, the Patriot League is ranked 32nd, just under the NEC and both SWAC divisions, ahead of the MEAC and Pioneer. Schedulers, please note.

Indeed it is! Us mortals would never get a job at a HS program if we did the same. This summer, I was wearing a Lafayette shirt to the Spray Beach, Long Beach Island NJ Wawa (a well known convenience store chain now featured in series) and a woman asked me if I had a son playing. We chatted as she did have a son playing on Colgate. I asked her WTF with Hunt? She said NO ONE knows and its is a campus secret apparently.

I was just thinking with cooler mornings abounding here in mid Atlantic that it was exactly a decade ago come Oct 29th, 2011 that I watched the Snow Game with Bucknell at Lafayette. We had a good 8 inches of wet snow up there. I got there late first quarter because driving up Rts 29 and 32 and 611, there were points where trees had fallen across road to be kept up by power lines and at the top end of the tree where clearance was greater, folks had chain sawed off limbs so cars could go underneath. However, only one car at a time. Anyways I did take a digital camera and got photos of it and even went to College Hill Wawa to get batteries at halftime as it died! I think someone on here also was at game (Franks?) and once posted photos of the game. Can that person repost them? Since I was with my nephew I decided NOT to drive back in the dark and we tried to find a hotel with rooms. A lot of folks that had lost power at home had gone to hotels and then some hotels themselves lost power! I think it was the then Value Place Hotel (now Woodsprings Suites) off Rt 22 that we went in and folks were sitting in the lobby because their keys wouldnt work. Even the Red Roof Inn and Scottish Inns on Airport Rd sold out! Anyways, somehow, thanks to my erstwhile travel agent, we got the very last room at the new Bethlehem Sands! Whew kitty!

Other than the freak storm of 2011, I can't recall Dartmouth playing an October game in the snow. I can recall plenty of November games though.

I do agree that it is too warm, though...

Polar Park is technically sold out though one can still get general admission/standing room tix for Saturday's game. I went to a game there in August and there are a lot of spots where you can stand, sit at benches etc. Not sure if they are putting temp seating in or not. They also have put turf in so they'll be no exposed infield....it may rain and that could be troublesome. I'll watch on ESPN+ as I'm not a huge fan of football being played at baseball parks.
It'll be interesting how this plays out for future games there etc.

Not sure I see Lehigh (currently averaging 1.5 points per game) going without a TD yet again. Defense is not Fordham's forte and hasn't been since the Mark Blazejewski/Aaron Dougherty days. Just last week Bucknell, beaten and battered by opponents and injuries alike, crawled into JCF averaging 6 points per but still put up 21 on the Rams.

The combo of a mediocre D and a quick scoring O which keeps the D on the field has to lead to at least some opponents' points. Even if they're only cosmetic scores, I still see Lehigh scoring. To me the real Q is how much will the Engine Hawks give up? Guessing a whole lot! So much so that I can see the Rams' O hitting 70 before I see the Rams' D putting a goose egg on Lehigh, or anyone else.

Swap Week 2 for Week 3 and the Rams definitely seem to have a pattern here in terms of scoring.

Week 1... 07 points
Week 2... 23 points
Week 3... 14 points
Week 4... 31 points
Week 5... 42 points
Week 6... 56 points
Week 7... 66 points
Week 8... ???

I would be shocked if Fordham hung 70 on us. Overall, the defense has played well against some pretty good offenses (Villanova, Richmond, Princeton). The two major problems have been blown coverages/assignments, which I think are getting straightened out, and wearing out due to no sustained offense. The DL is usually outweighed about 50lbs/man. Decent quickness, but can get worn down if they don't get off the field. I expect Pete Hafner to be return at ILB. Even if not 100%, he's the leader and being out four weeks has hurt. My pick, I think, was the Rams, 48-13 (that's a TD and two FGs for Lehigh. Could be little closer if we can get and convert a turnover or two. Big Q for us is who will be the QB: Perri, Wilkinson or Summerville? There are two others who haven't seen PT, yet: Shapiro and Rauscher (soph and frosh). With no consistent play at QB, there has been significant timing issues between the QB of the moment and the receivers. Lehigh has a bye week, so in addition to having some guys heal up, I would hope some some changes have occurred to the offensive scheme. Weather looks good for NYC-cloudy and 60F, though showers scattered on the east coast, so a chance of percip. I always enjoy the ride over to the Bronx...the rolling cocktail party on the 'Booster Bus"!

Hard to believe we once lived in a world with snow in October. I can not remembah a warmer October here in Massachusetts. People have been swimming at the beach all month and it's currently 71 degrees here as I type this.

75 here yesterday on Long Beach Island and I saw someone going up my street yesterday afternoon with a beach chair! Is this the first time Cross has played in Polar Park? BTW I have a neighbor, bay side, on my street who is an HC grad who has this second home and when he is down and I see him riding to beach on bike we chat Patriot League. And another guy a few streets up on the Blvd always has a Colgate flag flying. And a Fordham flag on Beach Ave. Of course Gtown repped. Guess who I bumped into turning down a side street Memorial Day weekend - Jorge Porriere himself wearing a Lehigh Football shirt playing catch in the road with a friend. I told him he was a bitch for us trying to defend and he laughed. Had a good few minutes of convo and he is in finance now. Great young man.

It probably is; the minor league baseball park in Worcester is practically brand new. It is the home venue for the team that for many years was the Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox.

Fordham 48 Lehigh 13 - Lehigh will get their first touchdown of the year! And lose by 35! The celebration lasts all week.....

Polar Park is a nice stadium....for baseball.

HC is trying to engage many of the Greatahh Wussterites that have stopped or have nevah followed HC sports in the Patriot League era. This is seen as maybe one such way to start doing this.

It is sold out but we're only talking about maybe 12K tops with standing room.

I saw a fair amount of your game against Brown and came away fairly impressed with the Bruins. Perry is a very good QB (played a little at BC before transferring). I didn't see it but it looks like they played Princestone fairly tough, losing in a shootout 56-42.

Swap Week 2 for Week 3 and the Rams definitely seem to have a pattern here in terms of scoring.

Week 1... 07 points
Week 2... 23 points
Week 3... 14 points
Week 4... 31 points
Week 5... 42 points
Week 6... 56 points
Week 7... 66 points
Week 8... ???

I stand by my 69-0 prediction.

Am I correct that those who drove I-290 were bi-polar?? xsmiley_wix Seriously, where does the name come from?

No question. in today's Morning Call, www.mcall.com/sports a fairly long report by Keith Groller on interview with Gilmore and what they did over the bye week to try and "right the ship". Said they changed some things without giving any details, but did not change their scheme. No indication on who will be starting at QB tomorrow. Said morale on the team has been strong with the guys bonding in the fight for each other, 'regardless of the outside noise'. I hope he's right, though I am not optimistic about the offense. Unless there is a major turnaround on the offense, there will have to be a change at OC. Fordham appears to have given up a fair number of points, so despite the challenge our D will have, perhaps the O will learn how to switch on the scoreboard. We just need a strong effort performance tomorrow that shows improvement leading toward Holy Cross the following week. If we can get that, there would be a foundation for the final three games that would be winnable and set a springboard into 2022.

14 all at halftime in the Bronx. What an odd game to watch as a fan of the home team - Lehigh should be up 28-7... hell, should be up by at least a few field goals, regardless of stopped goal-line drives, but... nope, a quick 2-minute touchdown and getting the ball back to start the half could be what Fordham needs to wake up.

Looking at the stats, Lehigh had more yards of offense in the 1st half against Fordham than they’ve had in ANY of their first 6 full games. I’m fact, the Mountain Hawks’ offense gained more yards in the first 30 minutes against the Rams than they had combined in ANY TWO FULL games they played if you exclude the Richmond game. Lehigh was held under 150 yards offensively against Villanova, Princeton, Colgate, Yale, and Penn. They had fewer yards against Princeton, Colgate, and Penn COMBINED than they had in a half against Fordham.

Or how does a team gain more than twice as many yards in one game as they had in any of their previous 6 games, or gain as many yards as in any THREE of their previous games combined if you exclude the previous season high for yardage (at Richmond)?

Was considering asking for a wager on your "hanging 70" on Lehigh!xsmiley_wix(ooops, I mean 69)! I think Boogie Down was 70.

I was in da' Bronx and must say it was if there was an epiphany with the team. We didn't recognize them. I really felt bad for the kids because they lost that game in the first half. Should have been up by 2-3 TD's. Our Sophs and Frosh and starting to show gained experience, although some huge errors (fumbles) doomed us in the end, which wouldn't have been an issue had we not stubbed our toes 4 times in the first half. I don't think I ever recall a placekicker clanking two uprights from fairly close range,in the same half no less.

We may have found our QB. Perri looked like a different man out there. Did not appear nervous in his footwork, threw with confidence and accuracy. One factor, we had two of our OL return, which allowed guys to move back to their familiar positions. We had great pushes from the OL and the RBs found the openings. Indeed, there were a couple runs that if the back had cut outside rather than in, huge gains if no td's would have scored. Defense, played very well, except for three breakdowns in secondary communication that resulted in major long pass completions of over 50 yards each.

This game has to give the team a new sense of self-respect and confidence. Going into Holy Cross game next week, they need it; but, also shows them that if they play a clean game they can physically play with anyone. Hafner did not play at ILB. He was "50/50" pre game and the thought was that he 'could' go, but that with some lingering soreness, there was concern he could reaggravate and be lost for the balance of the season. We need him coming down the stretch. While beating the Crusaders may be 'pie in the sky' as we just saw, strange things can happen. Regardless, there is now solid hope for a winning November, which would be a great springboard into 2022.

I am still unhappy with our OC play calling inside the 5. What the hell are we doing running from a shotgun from one yard out? And we did it repeatedly, with the same result.

Yeah-yeah-yeah, I brought up "70" but, in fairness, I was also clear about Fordham having a mediocre defense and that Lehigh would find the end zone. To answer what happened tho… it was a little bit of everything. As “ngineer” said, Lehigh was practically unrecognizable on Saturday. They have a good QB, played with energy on both ends of the ball and were unlucky to not have a much bigger lead going into the 4th quarter. Fordham? Not so much.

Aside from exceptions, like James Conway/Jesse Bramble on D and all the receivers on O, the team was just flat. This was especially true in the trenches where Lehigh looked quicker and, at times, stronger too. Meanwhile the secondary (aside from Bramble who will be severely missed next year) was its usual horror show. But,,, Fordham did end w/three straight TD drives and two forced fumbles in the final 13 minutes for the “steal." Far cry from “hanging 70” but, after the first three quarters, I can’t complain!

As for Lehigh, not sure what to think. Going in they were arguably the worst team in all of FCS. Do they revert to form next week? Was this the type of heartbreaker that sets them back even further than before? Or do they build on the positives and get a win or two down the stretch? I sincerely hope it’s the latter even if reading Lafayette fans here talk trash this season has been kinda funny :D

If they play the way they did on Saturday, Lehigh should have a puncher's chance against Bucknell and Georgetown. I would say Lafayette because, well, throw the record books out the window.

No way Fordham was anywhere near ready for what Lehigh brought out there last weekend. I think they got cocky after their two straight blowout wins, thinking the third would come easy. Letdown games happen to everybody at some point. Fordham survived and they move on.
