The second half of perhaps the finest quarterback tandem in the nation ... after coming off the bench to lead Appalachian past rival Furman for its first-ever trip to the national championship game in 2005, Elder returned to the bench in 2006, thanks to the emergence of freshman phenom Armanti Edwards ... remains a team leader despite not holding a starting role.

2006: Tapped as the starting quarterback heading into the season, despite not being fully recovered from surgery performed his throwing shoulder in June ... struggled in starts at NC State and versus No. 12 James Madison, failing to crack 100 yards of total offense in either contest ... the following week, he gave way to Edwards ... despite coming off the bench for the majority of the season, still threw for 372 yards on 32-of-64 passing and rushed for another 159 on 49 carries ... finest performance of the season came in second half of SoCon opener versus Elon, in which he completed 10-of-14 passed for 110 yards and a TD and ran six times for 24 yards.

2005: Spent much of the season as a backup to all-American Richie Williams ... saw action in 11 games, with only start coming in national title game against Northern Iowa ... for the season, completed 43-of-70 passes (61.4 percent) for 599 yards and five touchdowns ... ran 45 times for 172 yards and one of the biggest touchdowns in school history, a one-yard plunge versus Furman that sent the Apps to the national championship game ... came off the bench to relieve an injured Williams in the national semifinals versus Furman and completed 12-of-17 passes for 165 yards and no interceptions while also running 13 times for 69 yards and the winning score ... threw a 45-yard touchdown to Dexter Jackson on his first play after relieving Williams ... went on to start the national championship game six days later, completing 9-of-16 passes for 123 yards before being replaced by Williams on the final play of the first half ... Elder was plagued in the title game by three first-half turnovers, including an interception of his own ... prior to the playoffs, his most extensive action came in a 52-14 rout of Elon, in which he completed 7-of-11 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns ... had a sterling effort versus Wofford, connecting on 4-of-5 passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns in limited action.

2004: Spent true freshman season as backup quarterback behind Williams … saw action in six games, making one start … after not attempting a pass in limited action against Eastern Kentucky and The Citadel, made first collegiate start for an injured Williams versus Texas State … turned in a nearly flawless performance versus TSU, competing 12-of-20 passes for 249 yards and a season-long 65-yard touchdown, while rushing 12 times for 44 yards and three touchdowns en route to 41-34 victory … earned SoCon Freshman of the Week accolades for effort versus Texas State ... went 7-of-13 and threw for ASU’s only touchdown in a loss at No. 2 Georgia Southern … completed 11-of-15 passes over his final two appearances of the season versus No. 5 Wofford and Elon.

High School: Voted Mr. Football in South Carolina in 2003 after one of the finest seasons in state history … completed 242-of-349 passes (70 percent) for 3,878 yards and 38 touchdowns against only seven interceptions as a senior … rushed for 905 yards and 19 scores on 171 carries on his way to leading the Rebels to a Class AAAA state championship … his 4,663 total yards set a state record, while his 242 completions are the second most in a season in South Carolina … completed 14-of-23 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns and earned MVP honors at the 67th Shrine Bowl … coached by Bobby Bentley.
