2021 Spring Playoffs Round 1: Southern Illinois @ Weber St

Here's how these two match up statistically with the national ranks in parenthesis. Take them with a grain of salt given how few games some teams played this spring and the insular schedules most teams played but hopefully it gives some insight on the relative strengths and weaknesses of each team.

Haven't watched any Weber games this year but in the past they've been built like an MVFC team... tough defense and tough ground game so they're not likely to be overwhelmed by Javon Williams Jr and the SIU ground game and will be equipped to control the TOP. That said this is very likely the best team Weber has played this year and they've struggled mightily with some lower tier Big Sky teams at home so I think this one might be ripe for an upset.

Weber has looked pretty pedestrian and quite frankly should have lossed a couple games that they somehow pulled out wins. They say good teams find a way to win but a couple of those were miracles. I'll go with Weber at home.

I can see this one being a low scoring dogfight - if it is, JW Jr.'s arm could be the difference on the option pass, assuming we can run enough on their front 7 to make them need help

Strong and Williams looked awfully good running the ball against SELA. It will be interesting to see if they can do the same thing against Weber.

4 of the 8 Valley teams are in the Quarters. 1 had to be eliminated and 1 will for sure be eliminated next week. The Valley is a juggernaut of roulette. Great game and good win SIU.
