Nice. Care to elaborate?...especially the "if we're being honest" part (that was my favorite).

I called out STATS for their slot voting and Haley got mad at me for it. Clearly, I was right since he couldn't take the flak from it about how bad it has been lately.

I try to avoid slot voting as much as possible, but I do realize that sometimes teams can only play the games they can play (or not play). So I will cut STATS some slack for lack of movement on occasion; however, we are to the point where they can do better. Also, JMU does have three games that strongly suggest that they are NOT the top team in the nation.

I mentioned to him, since he's a STATS voter, that when you allow slot voters who rarely watch any games outside of their market, you get what you get and that's just how things will be.

One thing led to another and Haley lost it on me since I called it out for what it was and that was that. You cant tell me halfway through the season JMU is #1 and NDSU is #2. You just can't do that and keep a straight face. This is why I respect the AGS poll since voters will post their votes and face the criticism that comes with it.

Seems like too many media members panic and cry foul when you call them out yet they refuse to post their polls cause they know they'd have some explaining to do otherwise.

I agree with the slot voting. What has James Madison done to warrant their #1 ranking? They lost 7 or 8 starters from the 2019 team, struggled with Robert Morris and nearly lost to Elon.

Maybe they are #1 because they just haven't lost yet plus the name.

I think SHSU has a much better resume so far and they are undefeated.

DeweyIt comes down to people being lazy and refusing to watch games vs checking box scores. These media members need to do better or just admit they do not follow the games. Just another reason why AGS will always be the gold standard for the FCS poll.

Dumb question...

What's slot voting?

Not a dumb question at all.

To me slot voting is if a team doesn't lose another team can't jump them. This ignores the results from the game.

For example James Madison (not to constantly go after the Dukes) is ahead of SHSU because they started the season above them. Despite the fact that SHSU has a much better resume and JMU has struggled in 2 of their games against questionable teams.

If there is a mental block it is with Keeler and a few assistant coaches. Very few, if any, of these players were around when the Bearkats got throttled by NDSU and JMU. This group of players seem to have a different attitude than previous squads.

Totally agree, but just remember that none of the 78 Red Sox were even born when Babe Ruth was traded to the Yankees

Oh yeah and make sure KC is wearing his sunglasses before the game, you don’t want the players to see the fear in his eyes. Haha

It's an extremely lazy way of voting and ensures that if you do not lose, you can't lose your ranking, and for some reason at least for now, 75% of the media is following this trend. This is why, I personally believe, the AGS poll is the Gold Standard for the FCS since even if you do not lose, you can still drop in rankings for not having a great showing. I know I have dropped teams that have won and moved teams up even if they lost. It's supposed to be fluid for a reason, not, if you win, you cannot be penalized for playing Charmin U every week.

Nicholls was ranked #7 and SE La was ranked #17 respectively when they played. Kats dropped 71 on Nicholls and 43 on SE La. I am not sure if they are top 4 right now, but this team has a different feel so far this year. I havent seen depth in the roster like this in a very long time. This team is good.

Maybe some voters look at it the same way people figure RPI into certain polls on Basketball. Technically speaking Jackson State has a better overall record, and the loss was a close game on the road. If ASU's win was a slightly larger or more dominate win on the road, people might have taken a look at that.

I'm not saying these guys are going to get throttled in the playoffs this spring but how can you tell their attitude is different when they haven't really had their resolve tested yet? SLU gave them a good game but the biggest lead the Lions ever had was 3 and that was short-lived. Otherwise it's easy to have a great attitude when you're blowing teams off the field winning by 50+. You could be right that this Sam Houston team has a different mental makeup but I'm gonna hold off judgement until I see it in the playoffs when the chips are down.

Yeah, I get it. You guys have every reason to be optimistic right now. I think the playoffs this year are going to be wild with all the unknowns these teams have and inconsistent play we're likely to continue seeing. As long as no one has to forfeit a playoff game due to COVID or some other circumstance beyond their control I'll be satisfied however it turns out.

It's gonna take more than a bit of luck I think for my Bison to defend their title again. Either that or some drastically improved QB play. It's probably going to come down to what team gets hot at the right time.

The D-line is the separator but it's the most complete Sam team I've seen. I've watched all the contenders and don't see anybody who can stop you as they are constituted this spring -- everybody has warts.
