An FBS transfer that is actually going to play the first game. And a BCS transfer at that.

He said it gave them hope, not promise...

I don't see why there's all the hype with this guy. He was on the roster at a BCS school - and...?

His only playing time at that BCS school was one half of a game against arguably the worst team in the FBS last year, Florida International. He is also coming off a torn ACL. Seems to me there are a lot more questions with this guy than answers.

He may turn out to be an excellent qb for Weber or he may be a bust. At this point he's a big unknown. I ask again - why the hype? xconfusedx

Barnes was big and slow even before his ACL problems. If Weber State is not able to protect him in the pocket he is not going to be a mobile QB. But then again he is probably better than anyone else that Weber State had at the QB position. "Unknown" is the correct descriptor for Jimmy Barnes.

Weber State is known for it's OL, so immobility shouldn't be the issue.

If we have a QB, we can contend for the playoffs, no doubt about it. Stud RB. Fast Defense. Only one bad game from the defense last year as far as I recall, and that was against Murietta. Limit turnovers and three and outs, and we're there.

Swogger played on a bad knee in 2006, if you look at photos you'll see the brace he wore. He did OK but not as good as we thought he would.

It seems that a majority of FBS dropdowns end up starting at their FCS schools. Sure there are plenty of busts, and often they don't end up being any better than anyone else on the bench, but they usually have some talent. I would be pretty excited if I was a Weber fan because this kid was recruited to Alabama, not something easy to do. Rivals at him rated as the 13th best pro-style high school quarterback in the country in 2005.

But for every Dustin Long, there is a Matt Gutierrez.

As YOU thought he was. You hyped him like the Second Coming. Swogger this...Swogger that. There were others, but you were the best.

Swogger sucked. GSU has a transfer QB in Clark that would never see the field in Van Douche wasn't coaching.

I think that Swogger may have gotten to try out simply because he was attached to UM. He did alright for the team, but there were other players around him that made him look better.

You're right ronbo, its just hype. Swogger was hyped (I remember reading the newspapers from both towns) and he didn't really turn into what he was advertised as. Hyping anything usually leads to disappointment. So sadly enough, I think NC will win two games which makes all the hype nill.

Swogger...hyped, yes. How many teams would have begged to have a qb whose record was 11-2 as the starter and just missed the finals? Many Griz fans are quick to complain about anything short of a nat'l championship, but I guess that is what 21 straight winning seasons does.

We'll win against MSU and move to 2-1 against you since the move up.

Back on topic: I think it's great that this guy is transfering into the conference and I look foward to seeing him play at Nottingham.
