For some reason we don't have the same % of season ticket sales to total sales I think other schools have.

Last year's total attendance was a record for us with a great home schedule. This year our home schedule is about as bad as it ever will be and it appears we'll blow away last year's attendance.

We averaged 12,790 a game last year which is pretty interesting since our stadium capacity is 12,500.

Even more interesting is I believe we had over 15,000 one game......

Anyway - I expect this year to be in excess of 13,000.....and maybe 13,500 which would likely rank us in the 1AA top 15 attendance wise.

Nice increase.

McNeese is nearing its sales from last year (apx.7K) but will probably not make last years mark because single game tickets go on sale 7 days earlier this year, and because we were only 4-7 last year.

But, this all in spite of the fact we have done almost ZERO marketing of season tickets something that just pi$$es me off.

Attendance last year: (reported, that is)

Date Game Attendance Notes
9/4/2004 Lock Haven 10221 Season opener
10/2/2004 Hofstra 9298
10/9/2004 UMass 15321 Parents Weekend
10/30/2004 VMI 15312 Homecoming
11/6/2004 Delaware 12683
11/13/2004 W&M 13904

Avg attendance: 12790

JMU having a normal cap stadium at 12,500, it should be noted (and visible in the stadium thread) that we have bleachers on one endzone, although I dont know the cap of that, but for some reason we seem to be able to fit in 15k+.

They were actually pretty darn big, I'd have to guess easily a couple thousand, but I don't know if that counts the band that occupies a good portion of that.

Yeah they are sizable. According to worldstadiums.com our stadium has a capacity of 13559, meaning the bleachers amount to 1059 butts. I think it can be more, combined with a bit of squeezing in on the normal stands, and 15k looks cozy again :)

It is good to see the fans increasing their support for JMU and I hope they can continue to build on their success.

Stadium expansion is scheduled to begin following this season.

It will start with taking out the track and digging down lower to create more seats. After that I believe they will look at closing the ends of the stadium into a bowl at some future point. This should put the stadium closer to the 20,000 - 25,000 mark by 2010-2015 depending on how well the team does, how many more donations are made, and demand from the students and alumni.

For all of you around the US, keep in mind JMU takes mostly students from the Washington DC area, Richmond, and VA Beach areas of VA. These localities have many college football programs to support - UVA, VT, W&M, Hampton, UMD, Liberty, VMI, UR, etc.

Even some alumni like me enjoy the big games in Blacksburg and Charlottesville. I am going to the VT vs GT ACC game this year because it falls on JMUs bye week, but many supporters of JMU are also fans of VT or UVA becuase of the size of the schools in terms of national coverage.

The point is that 3300 is a big jump. We get great student support on Saturdays and our stadium fills up mostly with students. Out of the rest of the 3500 fans, 50% are alumni from out of the area, 50% come from Harrisonburg.

When your school is in North Dakota, I would expect season tickets to sell better - how many sports venues do you have in that 1,000 mile radius? An exaggeration, but you get my point I hope. Congrats though, to all programs in I-AA who are building larger fan bases and selling more season tickets.

DukeDawg, I thought lowering the field wasn't possible due to the shallow watertable there? If they resolved that problem, then that would be awesome. The timing is perfect too, since we were planning on getting new turf anyway (with less of a crown, I hope ;))

Hope you guys can keep winning and keep growing. Seems like the right kind of program to become a I-AA power house year in and year out. Now lets see if you guys can do that.

That's been my only beef with your stadium. I commented to LBPop last week about your field while admiring Georgetown's new sprint turf field that was almost perfectly flat. Apparently the new fields include a drainage system that makes the crown obsolete.
