I'm seeing a lot of Richmond picks. Did Coach Hues change his tone of spring season from previous interviews where he kind of alluded to it being a glorified spring practice?

Last interview I saw, he said would play a lot of players because he finally had depth (especially on the lines) with his younger players getting experience. If they could do the job it would take pressure off older guys in spring, but they were absolutely going to try and win games with the players they have. If guy is not getting job done the best players will play. He mentioned he did not want older guys to have to take all the beating in the spring they would be in better shape for fall if the young guys were as good as he thought they were.
I was glad to hear the interview, because also though I heard it the way you did the first time it was talked about.

Thank you for clarifying. That makes sense. I'll have to check out the vault over on ESPN Richmond later and take a listen.

well.....Nova is treating spring like .....well spring. I’m hearing starters are going about a quarter or so at Stony Brook. 1st All-CAA LB Forrest Rhyne not listed on the 2-deep. Good luck to Delaware & the rest of the CAA teams today & spring season. xpeacex

Villanova survived a 16-13 win at Stony Brook. Special teams continue to be a “Little Shop of Horrors” as they missed a XP, FG, & had a punt blocked that led to Wolves 1st score. xpeacex

How did Ferrante handle the rotations? Normally or did he filter guys who wouldn't usually see time in?

I don't know the Villanova player personnel very well; but QB Daniel Smith played every snap.

By golly your right! Somebody named Connor Watkins threw 4 passes and for 4 completions. Smith only threw 32 times completing 17.

thanks for the clarification, I was watching the Delaware game and had the Stony Nova game on computer with no sound.... took a glance at it after GT's post about pulling the starters and caught a different looking type of QB...

Would like to hear from Gangtackle about how much the regulars sat on the bench yesterday

Gangtackle11
March 7th, 2021, 10:22 AM
Smith played the majority of the game. Highly regarded back up Connor Watkins played a couple of series in the 2q. I had heard he would play more, but Smith played the entire 2nd half. Rayshon Pringle caught 8 passes for 133 yards and inserted himself as a strong candidate to replace Changa Hodge (at VaTech).

The running backs rotated in & out as Justin Covington returned from his injury that cut short a All-American season in 2019. Starting TE Todd Summers played sparingly.

1st team CAA MLB Forrest Rhyne missed the game due to injury, but is expected back before spring ends. Defense saw a lot of players getting reps including freshman PWO Brendan Bell at MLB for a few series. He’s the younger brother of former Nova standout TE Ryan Bell.

Smith definitely played more than I was told, but they rotated a lot guys at all other spots. More than usual for a “regular season” game.

I was streaming two games at a time also. The game times were close together so I watched most of all 4 of the games but not all of any of them. Delaware was by far the most impressive team of the day. Maine has a lot of good athletes but the team seemed dysfunctional.

Understatement of the day ...Maine was not ready to play that football game and right from the opening kick off, They established nothing on offense all day

On the other hand, Delaware was super focused and ready to play, the defense played more aggressively finally thanks to Manny Rojas.

The offense looked crisp under QB Nolan Henderson and the OL looked much better.

No doubt we weren't ready, we couldn't even get on the field for the kickoff.

It was the most disappointing performance by Maine that I can recall.

Will know if we just weren't ready or plain suck after this weekend against Albany.
