The last TO was a pick on sideline throw. What made it so maddening was we have the ball with 3 timeouts left, and just under 2 mins having lost momentum from prior 2 turnovers. So we're taking our sweet time making safe runs and one safe pass, while inexplicably letting the clock run out. We get a 1st down on a nice safe shovel pass, then we huddle and call a run play. Then we huddle again (tic toc tic toc), and we throw the f-ing sideline pass to the long side of field .. picked with 45 seconds, again around our 30. They score with under 15 seconds.

I had something like this happen at a home football game. My HS science teacher was the photographer for the annual. I was coaching in my home town. Opponent kicked a field goal. To us it was obvious that they missed. Official waited- waited- and raised his hands that it was good. We lost by two.

On Monday the photographer who was standing right there said that the official asked a little kid if it was good. The kid shrugged his shoulders and said, I guess so. So it counted.

- EWU guy reaches for ball, bobbles it, gets hit, drops it. Called a fumble, recovered by the other team.
- EWU defender is running with Vandal receiver. Vandal Receiver reaches out, grabs the guys facemask and shoves the EWU guy away. Pass interference on EWU.
- Fieldgoal call

There are more. Oh so many more. These ones upset me the most.

I don't say this lightly. And I hate being this guy, because I know exactly how it looks. Teams need to prepare for bad reffing and win by enough that the reffing mistakes don't change the outcome.

But the refs gifted Idaho 14 points and stole 3 from EWU. That's the last I'll bitch about it.

USD scored 27 straight points from middle of Q2 to Q3, all off turnovers on our own 36, 36, 30, 26, and 40 yard lines.We still outgained them 447 to 300, and had a realistic chance of tying the game on our last play and forcing into OT at then end. Instead, QB Jefferson missed wide open TE in back of end zone, and threw into double coverage with time expiring.

Game just snowballed on QB Jefferson .. got off to great start, but wound up with 4 picks, 2 fumbles.

Give USD defense some credit. But they never drove the field once all game when starting inside their own 50. We had 5 drives 68 yards or more. Their longest drives were 52, 43, 43 .. those 3 drives netted them a FG, their only points not off a turnover.

More on Jefferson, he showed a lot of true dual threat ability. Wound up 15 for 33, 280 yards, 1 TD, 4 Picks, 2 fumbles. But he made a lot of plays, good and bad, bought a lot of time with his legs. He was just in very unfamiliar territory being given the keys to the car, and no James Robinson. Ironically, his QB skill set and size, reminds me a lot of Taryn Christion .. ironic in that he had the JMU game with 10 TOs. USD isn't JMU, but still.

He looked like a very potent FCS level QB yesterday, but he had to carry our offense by himself, and it snowballed on him. I hope Spack sticks by him. This spring season will have an asterisk by it no matter what happens. I want to see more of Jefferson .. maybe he can't handle this level, but I want to see more of him ... he plays a lot like Christion, tough rugged combined with finesse style QB .. perfect for todays college game.

In previous years that they have lost the games we're closer but never a 24 punt whooping behind the wood shed. Maybe the 2014 game against UNI was a whooping.

In my top 25 poll NDSU is going to be somewhere in the 15 to 20 range.

I was thinking they didn't look like the Bison against YSU last week. YSU didn't get any breaks, so it looked like an easier win for the Bison than it was.

There's a third possible explanation. As much as coaches say every game and season is important and all the other cliches, it's not true.

I think there are going to be some coaches who feel like they have the pieces together who are going to chase the bonuses in their contracts, but there are going to be many others who know they're safe and are just going to use this season as a sand box to get ready for the Fall.

I hope it isn't true, but we've seen a lot of oddities for what's only the second full week of the Spring season.

They have more officials on the field that should have been able to see where the ball hit the wall FFS. Not to mention all the other **** ups those clowns had in the game. Hope that crew is reprimanded at the very least.

If that school North of Fargo beat a top 5 SDSU and a top 25 SIU they easily have the best resume so far.

There is also the case for JMU but they lost a lot due to graduation from FCS runner up 2019 team.
