With the stated requirement that at least half the teams participate for there to be a season, was it Morgan State or A&T who opted out first, thus pushing the destruct button for the league?

When Norfolk State dropped, it was known it wasn’t happening. Add in kids currently isolating, it sped up the process.

It'll be interesting to see what the MEAC does this fall as far as being competitive. Howard, Morgan, Delaware State and Norfolk State will have lots of making up to do to catch SCSU and NCCU which both figure to be the top 2 teams in the conference. If NCCU gets a Big South invite and DSU gets a NEC invite look for the MEAC to fold. NSU probably would head back to the CIAA along with Coppin State, Morgan State & UMES while Howard probably would look to the Big South, NEC, CAA or Patriot Leagues for refuge.

No it will be SCSU alone. They will dominate the MEAC and play in the Celebration Bowl for the next 3 years at least

NCCU also dropped baseball. Just 3 baseball playing members left.

Would it be too much to sponsor 15 sports? Many schools (including HBCU's) do that and more.

As the number of African-Americans continue to shrink in MLB to percentages not seen since the 1950's, losing HBCU baseball seems like a major step in the wrong direction.

Sorry to hear this, maybe the VP will toss a life jacket out to keep the MEAC afloat

Trust me, it caught the university community off guard. But with the MEAC in danger of losing the autobid and COVID wrecking our revenue; the athletics department had to make choices.

Nah. SCSU always figures out a way to lose to us in even years.

Baseball might as well be hockey in the AA community at this point, Black players are few and far between in college baseball as well and I shake my head about it all the time

Delaware has an open date on September 25Th

As a fan, I would get more excited about North Carolina A&T than a Hornet any day

"MLB has seen a small increase in the percent of Black players on opening-day rosters this year, with 7.8%, or 80 players, comprising the 30-man rosters, injured and restricted lists, according to analysis by USA TODAY Sports....There are three teams – the Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays – that didn’t have a single Black player on their opening-day roster. And 14 of the 30 teams have two or fewer. The Seattle Mariners have more Black players than the entire American League Central Division, and as many as the NL West."

Black players - yes. AMERICAN Black players - ???

Roberto Clemente was Black. Sammy Sosa is Black. Among some current top players - Juan Soto is Black, Ronald Acuna is Black. Among that list, the only one you MIGHT consider an American Black player is Clemente (Puerto Rico is, after all, part of the US) but ALL of them could conceivably count toward the percentage of Black players overall.

Latino’s, Specifically Venezuelans and Dominicans have an extremely strong presence in major-league baseball, Puerto Rican numbers are going down. They do not play football in the Dominican Republic or Venezuela and the focus is on baseball and the results are evident

Just think what the African-American community could do If they would bring baseball back into their youth sports programs. There is a lot of talent being wasted for sure.

So I read that Howard, SCSU, Morgan State and Delaware State are all still forging along with a spring football season.
