Got our first report from Shrine practices from a Bears reporter and a Bronco reporter .. ISUr RB James Robinson apparently got off to very impressive start. I knew he was very hard to tackle, but wasn't sure if he had the speed for next level .. but they really like him so far.

A local kid from the Rockford area, James Robinson (https://247sports.com/Player/James-Robinson-81941) dominated competition in high school before excelling at the next level at Illinois State. He's an intriguing prospect that has good speed and is also a powerful runner.
At 5-foot-9, 220-pounds Robinson is a shifty back that could be a steal for a team in the upcoming draft.
During the Shrine Bowl, Robinson will have the chance to go up against some FBS competition after competing in the FCS for all four years of his college career. His ability to rack up yards after the catch and break tackles is a big plus and will stand out for scouts.
As for his potential fit with the Bears, if the Bears want to add another back to their backfield of Tarik Cohen (https://247sports.com/Player/Tarik-Cohen-26475) and David Montgomery (https://247sports.com/Player/David-Montgomery-81552), I wouldn't be opposed to taking a chance on the potential of Robinson on Day 3. He could be a Darren Sproles-type running back in the NFL and potentially bring some special teams value as well.
Through the first few days of practice for the West squad, Robinson is already having an impressive showing. Pro Football Network (https://www.profootballnetwork.com/live-from-the-east-west-shrine-game-practice-day-one/) praised him twice already this week not only as a ball carrier but as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. Will his stock continue to rise or will he be a complete steal come late April?

We might see the Broncos select a running back in the 2020 NFL draft to create more competition at the position. With new offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur running the show, any running back added by the team will need to be a good receiver out of the backfield. On Monday, one of the best running backs I saw in that department was Illinois State’s James Robinson.
He had good burst to and through the hole on many of his carries. Players cannot be tackled in this format but you can see who has the “juice” to follow rush lanes and get to the second level quickly. Robinson caught the ball cleanly and showed good run-after-the-catch ability after he would properly look a pass into his grasp.
