It seems there are a lot of obvious choices for FCS schools in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, etc. I really believe that the whole "SEC mentality" plays a heavy role in a smaller school's ability to start up and maintain a successful program. They are swimming against the current in the deep south.

I wonder if UNA were in, say, Indiana, would they already be a FCS program?

I have been on UNA's campus, but don't really remember their facilities. I think they could make the move, though. Florence is very much a college town and withthe right conference affiliation, I think they'd do well.

The SEC thing would be a factor since most small school alums in Alabama do noit follow their own teams in favor of Alabama or Auburn. I have many friends that are grads of South Alabama, UAB and Troy that fit that catagory. I've never understood why, but it is fact.

UNA has had a good football program for sometime at the D-II level and hopefully that will translate over to FCS if they are able to make the move. Perhaps they would be a good OVC repalcement for Samford.

UNA's athletic director just left for Southeastern Louisiana...

Have they hired a new AD yet down there?
