The only award I think is a runaway is the Rice with the NDSU QB winning. The others I think could go to a few different players.

Who would you guys give the awards to?
Buchanan: Ron'Dell Carter
Rice: Trey Lance

Payton: I think Lance should win but because he's just a freshman I'll guess it goes to Smith or DiNucci instead.

They're voting on these this week aren't they? I know they don't announce the winners until the STATS awards banquet in January but I thought votes are due in before the playoffs start.

Chris Rowland put up some amazing stats for Tennessee State. But Daniel Smith may be the front runner for the Payton Award. I do hope Jah'Maine Martin is named a finalist however. Not even Tarik Cohen made it this far for the award.

Olson - Buchanon, I think Olson and Rozeboom are the best defensive players in the country but Olson gets the nod
Lance - Rice

Really no idea on the Payton, I wouldn't trade Trey Lance for any of the QB's on the list but he won't win because he doesn't have the big numbers and will never have gaudy passing stats playing in NDSU. I don't want to appear like a homer so I won't make a pick on this one.

I haven't seen all of them play, nor spent the time to review statistics, etc. But my homer vote would be Bryce Sterk for the Buchanon.

I hope next year Troy Andersen will be in the running for the Buchanon and Isaiah Ifanse for the Payton.

Martin is really good. I don't think he wins but he should finish in the top 3-4. His season has been amazing.

Regardless of how it ends out, a 0 INT season for a Redshirt Freshman QB is quite impressive.

That is impressive for anyone at any level. It is very rare to happen. He should finish in the top 3 just for that and leading his team to an undefeated season alone.

Wow... had to go look to verify and you're right. That's a snub if there ever was one. They've got 15 QBs on that list... how they can say 15 QBs had a better year than DiNucci is beyond me. He's a senior even.

This is baffling...he showed so much improvement this year and was very efficient. Seems like he got screwed over for the same reason NDSU QB’s typically do. He plays for a Juggernaut team that can pull its starters before the end of the 3rd quarter. I think the only reason they had to include Lance on the list was due to his 0 INT’s. Otherwise, they would have found an excuse to cut him off as well. Based on the obsession with stats, I think Barriere has a good case for the Payton.

Lance deserves the Rice...Hands down!!! ANd I know I'm biased, but Ailym Ford's numbers dont tell the entire story. It took 3 games for him to establish himself as the starter. He ended up getting hurt in the first series onf game 10 and didn't play against 3 Defenses he would have racked up some serious yards...If you change his numbers to reflect what his back up did in those three games (and he would have probably done more) it gets scary!!!!

Ailym Ford, Chattanooga- 206 carries, 1081 yards, 5.2ypc, 9 TD, 108.1 yds/gm, 5 catches, 32 yards in 10 games.

ADJUSTED:
Ailym Ford, Chattanooga- 280 carries, 1485 yards, 5.3ypc, 15 TD, 123.8 yds/gm, 6 catches, 36 yards in 12 games.

Rondell Carter and John Daka for JMU are neck and neck, so how could Daka be removed for the Buchanan? I’m watching these guys every week, and they are about equally as dominant. I’d give Carter the edge vs the run, and Daka vs the pass. Carter did have higher 2018 and pre season accolades. Is there a only 1 player per school rule?

Daka: 49 TKL, 20.5 TFL, 12.5 SACKS, 2 PBU, 8 QBH, 1 FR, 2 FF
Carter: 53 TKL, 22.5 TFL, 9.5 SACKS, 1 PBU, 10 QBH, 1 FF

For me, getting it down to just 20 each I did try to take off a 2nd player from a school and did remove some others who have good numbers. I expect both to be 1st team AA picks though.

Yep. I’m not saying he should win it, but to not even be considered is baffling.
#1 nation completion percentage 70.3%
#3 nation passing efficiency.
22 TDs/4 INTs/2552 yds.
426 net yds rushing (570 yds before sacks/losses), but I bet has rushed for 3 doz 1st downs.
For the #2 team in the country.
Award is a complete joke.

Yes this is how I would judge it. The list keeps growing and it use to be just 16 candidates. That was when it was very tough to pick the names. If I grew the list up to 25-30 names then it would be a lot easier. In the actual vote I believe they vote on the top 5 and I think it helps to have 15-20 names instead of 25 or 30 to look through.
