I am actually leaning towards picking SIU over NDSU. I just think there is more on the line for the Dawgs in this one and they might want it more. I will have to think it over a little more though.

We have a punchers chance at home with the Bison having wrapped up home field and all. Our QB has progressed but I don't think he can come out throwing like we need to without getting picked. I think if we lose by two scores or less we have a strong argument for an AL bid. I think SDSU and IlSU were lucky to catch us in our backup QBs first two starts and that its a much different game if we meet again. SEMO too.


I'm looking forward to seeing SIU's stadium. Haven't been down there yet and this will be my first game there.

NDSU pass defense is actually better than their run defense. SIU might gain some yards running the ball. NDSU's OL is excellent and I'm sure the SIU run defense will get tested.

Our defense is much better than it has been in recent years but we've been playing the weakest part of our schedule for the past 5 weeks so I'm not expecting anything like the numbers we've had lately. We'd need some breaks to come out on top - I just hope we show well enough to impress the selection committee since we don't have a big win.

the only blessing might be that they will have a harder time game planning for us. That said, Spack seems to prepare well for Pelini YSU games ... we went into to SDSU in 2017 with a RS FR QB subbing unexpectedly for a struggling, allegedly injured Kolbe, and nearly pulled out a win with a guy who barely threw the ball .. the RS FR QB started ad played that one game and was moved to safety in offseason. Point being, we caught SDSU by surprise with a completely unproven QB ... I think that could work here too ... 2019 YSU is no 2017 SDSU.

South Dakota St @ South Dakota - If Heide stays on the roll he was on last week (against a much worse defense this week) this won't be close.

Indiana St @ Missouri St - Gonna take a shot and say the Bears defense steps up as does senior QB Peyton Huslig in his final game.

North Dakota St @ Southern Illinois - Closer than the 20 point spread predicts but the Bison still win.

We have injuries too.

Also would point out ... we're #1 in MVFC in run defense yards per game .. #2 in yards per carry. Last year we held DJ Davis to 24 yards on 12 carries. This year, we held SDSU Pierre Strong to 29 yards on 12 carries, last year we held him to 17 yards on 5 carries. Last year we held NDSU's entire RB group to about 105 yards, just over 3 yards per carry .. QB Stick picked us apart with his arm and legs, but we stuffed their run game .. this year, not so much. But we usually game plan good RBs well.

In the future I can try to put the standings at the start of each successive week. Unfortunately, trying to find time to tally the scores with my job recently had been a challenge and I was generally doing it on my phone so getting it done ahead of a timely post of the next weeks games had not been feasible. Changed jobs and hopefully I can make this work better. Does anyone want us to keep doing games for valley teams in the playoffs?

I think when I pick Valley games I have more bias than when I pick other conferences, I would guess it is the same for many others.
