18 Offense and Defense, that includes our 2005 QB that also started 1 game last year (beat South Dakota State 36-7). He has 10 starts so he qualifies as a starter.

Special Teams

Punter returns
Kicker returns
Kickoff tandem returns

Lost our punt returner, he's with Miami.:) A couple guys behind him have seen quite a bit of action returning punts. Quinton Jackson averaged 11 yards on punt returns last year.

If I'm not mistaken, we return 10 starters on offense (everyone except an OL) and 8 starters on defense. However, it's likely that only 6 of those 8 starters on defense will start due to transfers.

From what I'm hearing, there is little chance that Matt Brennan will start at QB. He is almost certain to lose his job to the JC transfer, which should bode well for the Cal Poly attack as it implements the spread option. There won't be much need for FB Jon Hall, either, since the spread doesn't use a true fullback. He might could be used as an H-Back, if the Mustangs wanted to incorporate some two-back motion lead blocking into the spread.

Funny seeing Adam Torosian's name on there. I went to college with his dad, Ted Torosian, at Fresno State. Ted Torosian used to date one of my friends. Ted Torosian was a hard-nosed fullback for my Bulldogs. If Adam can play with the passion his dad did, he will be a stud.

But when one of those seven back on defense is Smith at DE, a legitmate threat to win the Buchannan Award, that should count as more than seven back.

Though not officially a starter Demetrius Harrison was statistically the second best receiver on the team, so the offense is really return 9.

Well until they defeat JMU, I'm not going to lay claim to any title. xpeacex

It'll sure be interesting how the Tigers match up with UMass WITH Schaefer playing. Last year was a complete disaster! A humiliating horrible disaster!

With Towson returning 8-9 starters on offense and Delaware returning 10, THAT game is the one I'm most looking forward to! There could be over a 100 points scored in that one!

McTailGator
May 18th, 2007, 09:35 AM
McNeese lost 6 players that were starters at one point or another during the season.

Two eventually lost their jobs to younger players or injury during the season, so you could say we ended up losing 4 starters

So we lost 3 on Offense and 3 on defense if we say all 6 were starters.

But, we gained back 3 starters on Defense from the 2005 season that were lost for the 2006 season (one for injury and the other 2 for acedemic reasons). They are very good players.

So McNeese will have a total of 20 players returning that have started either from last year or 05.

Rough numbers, but I'm pretty sure they're close:

Offense: 7 - Barnhart (TE), Groves/Mason (RB), Hansen (C), Jensen (T), Lewis (WR), Rolovich/Carpenter (QB), Saucedo (G). May be academic issues with Saucedo.

Defense: 7 - Austin (CB), Daly (LB), King (LB), Kolone (DE), Matthews (LB), Papich (DT), Bobo (DE)

I know there are some missing who saw very significant time last year (and may even qualify as "starters", just can't remember if - or how many - games they may have started): DeCock (T), Beach (CB), Clagget (LB), Kinkelaar (DT), Retoriano (FS), Toliver (WR).

Letterwinners: 42

Considering the 2006 season for the Bears, is it a good thing, or a bad thing that Terry Allen returns so few players for 2007?

Eh, probably both good and bad. Bad because, obviously, we're gonna be more than a little wet behind the ears. At the same time though, it's probably gonna be good for the program in the long run, because we may see anywhere from 3-7 freshmen (RS and true) in the starting lineup. Coach Allen has recruited some great kids, and many of them will end up getting a lot of playing experience early on.

In addition, we don't really have much room to get worse. Things obviously weren't working with the team last year, and most of that team is gone. I can't see how giving some different players a chance could hurt.

How many starters did you guys return last season from the '05 team? That's an awful lot of returning starters from a team that's won back-to-back NCs.
