We are going off the results of week 9 so this is what they represent.

It's been mentioned ad naseum, but Kennesaw State being ranked over Sacramento State, is simply a result of voters basing too much off their pre-season polls. Sacramento State has a much more impressive resume through this week of the season.

I know I’ve seen it mentioned before, but it seems there should be a preseason poll to satisfy everyone then no poll updates for 3 or 4 weeks. Throw out the preseason polls and re-rank based on what teams have done on the field. That should factor in SOS and W/L record. That would be a better starting point instead of a preseason guess by pollsters.

I think you'd just end up with a wackier poll in weeks 3 or 4 than you would have if you had been voting the whole time.

I don't think you'd eliminate the dumb stuff that the STATS and Coaches polls do with team like Kennesaw St in that scenario anyway. Voters would say "Well, Kennesaw was a top 5 team to the end the year last year... their only loss so far this year is OT to an FBS team so I think I'll still put them in the top 5."

Bad polls are bad polls and bad voters are bad voters no matter how much lipstick you put on that pig. The only way to improve them is to have more dialog about their rankings with people who see things differently than that particular voter does. I don't think very many STATS voters do that and I don't know if any Coaches Poll voters do that and their product suffers because of it IMO. More dialog = better polls and the more polls released = more dialog... at least with polls like AGS poll so that's why I think the AGS Poll in week 9 is better because of the discussion spurred by all the previous weeks the poll was released.

This for sure !!

Also, my ISUr is not currently a top 8 seed .. inarguably, UNI, Montana, and Villanova all have better resumes. Arguably a couple others could make a case to be higher than us ... but so could ISUr. I currently believe we are probably a top 12 team +/- 2 slots. On the other hand, I am pretty sure we would beat KSU this year.

But we'll find more out about ISUr (and UNI) this week .. we host UNI .. expecting a real scrum with 2 tough teams with strong defenses who struggle for consistency on offense. Glad we're at home for this game ni particular this year. This game may be the one which determines if we're a top 8 seed or not. If we win, I'll start believing this poll.

I could make a real good argument for Illinois St over Villanova right now.

Seems like they both lack a good, solid win at this point. ISU's best win is over 4-4 SIU. Nova's best win is over 4-4 Towson.

saw some of your game in the rainstorm vs Larry Bird State

impressions
really strong Defense
QB not the greatest but it was not a day for passing
#25 rb Robinson is a stud, ride him over N Iowa late when they are tired on D

Agreed quality wins are pretty much a wash as virtually non-existent for both but Villanova has that extra FCS loss and the same record with a weaker schedule (according to Massey).

I do feel like we'er inching our way upwards .. slowly and surely. And UNI seems to be slipping a bit, if anything, after strong start ... but both trends are nearly imperceptible to outsiders ... and then there is the anygivenstaurday aspect. I like our chances, but thinking 55/45 chance of win hosting UNI .. mainly because were at home and they will not come in respecting our pass game ... I just hope were ready to throw ... our QB Davis threw fro 425 yards against NAU because they stacked the box and Spack must have felt we needed to throw because they stacked the box and we to keep up with Case Cookus throwing. Against UNI, I hope Spack realizes, we will need to pass some to take pressure off Robinson .. UNI is built for scrum.

On top of that I don't remember him naming the teams that should be above UM and I sure can't think of any that would suddenly rise up and look so good that Weber would not still be considered one of the better bets for not slipping much either.

If you have the candidates please let me know who they are Chicken and I'll be happy to concede to your griping about it.xthumbsupx

I have to go look at your ballot but are the kids still being punished are you not rewarding them and moving them back above the teams that you put them below as your punishment.

I'd have to go back and look but after that game the Griz still had as much or more of a resume the mateen's below them.

But your punishment theory of poll voting seems fairly brilliant since you apparently had been under ranking Sac State in the first place... As had most of the voters. But that group including KSU, Villanova, northern Iowa, and Illinois state which I assume are the teams you are talking about are all good teams but if a voter is looking at the resume they might be able to say hey I don't see any really big wins for some of those teams.that might outweigh a little bit of the punishment theory put forward here by you.

So which teams was it that had the better resume at that point?

Punishment is just another word for slot voting right? As you said it does make things really easy or in your word simple.

Yes, we're already doing that and even though it's to a T10 or T5 team I guess that is a bad loss now...admittedly the points is large but once a train rolls and you ain't on it you get run over sometimes...but it is still one loss to a very highly ranked team. you are the one that keeps going on about it and that the punishment just wasn't enough for your taste so me finally saying something back to you makes me the touchy one huh? Good call, you nailed it down there.

I guess you will just concede the point about who else was there that should have stepped up considering their resume to that point then. We were a beneficiary of the fact that we are the bottom of the top 10 was iffy and after that it seems a bit weaker. Not great for FCS overall but in that particular week we got a benefit after playing a crap game to a damn good team.

You might notice you won't get too much push back from me on almost anything Grizzly if I see it as fair. But if you choose to keep badgering on the topic then I'm probably gonna put a bit of resistance if it isn't ringing true to me.

Anyone that had Sac below Montana for instance got called out from me when they cast their ballot because it would not have been fair to not give the proper credit to Sac who has the toughest schedule out there. I think Montana's was top 5 but can't recall.

Not sure if slot voting is really ever a good way to do it but opinions vary and I have always allowed room in the poll for those other opinions as I am sure you are aware since as you noted I have never got in touch unless a mistake was perceived and I asked you (or the voter) if it was that. I mentioned it for one reason and that was the assertion that you made about "not being punished enough" and that the Griz got some biased treatment...which doesn't hold up to me.

UD voters are, and always have been the backbone of the AGS Poll so don't take my arguments against you here as a critique of your or anyone else's overall voting it is only about this one single point.

Very sorry to hear about your cat. If I ever have one I will name him Bob just to follow your lead.:)

I realize that pollsters first look a team records and a so far unbeaten season (6-0) garners a certain amount of respect. That being said, is Princeton really the 12th best team in the FCS? The combined record of their first 5 opponents is 7-29, and the Massey Composite ranks them at 65, 105, 109, 111, and 118. Princeton's signature win was a 6 point victory over #37 Harvard (4-2) who had wins over #60 Holy Cross, #96 Cornell, #109 Brown, and #121 Howard. How much does strength of schedule actually count?
