The crazy thing is if voters are going off name recognition one of the most recognizable names in the subdivision, who happens to have a far superior resume to KSU, is sitting one spot below them.

Sagarin: If Montana was playing Kennesaw St on a neutral field this weekend they've be a 10 point favorite.
Massey: If Montana was playing Kennesaw St on a neutral field this weekend they've be a 9 point favorite.

UC Davis impressed me in the NDSU game, but they would not be anywhere near my top 25. You cannot lose 4 of 6 games and still get the benefit of the doubt. I hope they regroup and play up to their potential, but right now the results indicate that they were not who we thought they were.

It took a miracle for us to beat Idaho State in 2009 and they were hot garbage. We should have beat EWU in 2010 when they were awesome and we were garbage. **** happens.

The problem for me is not the order (SHSU over UND), it is the discrepancy in points (351-195). At this point, body of work comes into play, and not just a 4 pt loss in the Alerus Center.

As for your other questions...could not agree more. Yikes!

I don't see UND as having a better body of work but I weight quality wins higher than quality losses. UND has two wins that are better than any win SHSU has IMO and that includes head-to-head. UND does have a worse loss than SHSU does.

One of two things is true:

1. NDSU is not nearly as good as they have been, and the Valley teams as a whole are overrated.
2. Like you suggest, UC Davis caught NDSU in a bad game, played way above their heads, and are clearly not the same team they were a season ago.

It's pretty obvious to me that they (like EWU) are not the same team they were a year ago.

Also, to be fair, our 2010 team was a really, really good team that just didn't know what they were doing in a new offense (that also lost a potential All-American QB to injury).

What are you basing point #1 on, I am genuinely curious. Is it all the close games we have had against ranked teams so far this year??????? Maybe we aren't as good but nothing we have done to date would indicate that. You must have some inside knowledge nobody knows about. This NDSU offense might be the best in the last 5 years, I am not kidding. D is real young but improving. You said not nearly as good, that implies a steep downturn in the team. Explain.

I can respect this opinion, although I don't agree with it. Which were UND's quality wins? If you are talking about over UC Davis and H2H over SHSU (I assume these are the two to which you are referring), you must also consider that UC Davis may not be nearly as good as first perceived. And the H2H is one game played when the SHSU QB was still finding his way. Also, I assume you are considering the SHSU win to be a quality win because of SHSU's quality wins (see below).

One might argue that SHSU has two quality wins as well (UIW and McNeese). McNeese just knocked off a team (SELA) that many on this forum were quite high on and UIW just beat an AGS Top 25 team (HBU). I don't remember EWU or UC Davis having any better wins, unless you consider a 3 pt win over San Diego better than the McNeese or UIW wins I just mentioned. And UND lost to EWU, who is currently not even listed in the ORV (I assume this is the worse loss to which you are referring).

The point I am trying to make is that it is neither obvious, nor a foregone conclusion that UND should be ranked above SHSU, period. In fact, I perceive SHSU's body of work as better than UND's for the reasons described above. If you make it simply a H2H, then of course, UND won the game (held on to win by 4 pt). However, this would be a myopic view after week 6, IMO. For the record, I did briefly consider putting UND at 25 and leaving SHSU out of my AGS poll ballot, so they are very close.

If you are going to go that deep into breaking it down, there are some average resumes ranked above these two, also.

Also, Schmid played most the game vs UND and didn't do a thing. Then he got hurt so Brock had to play after that. QB is not the reason they lost at UND.

Yes, I believe wins over UC Davis and SHSU are both better than McNeese or UIW. You're giving credit for McNeese's win over SELA "who AGS was high on" but devaluing UND's win over UC Davis who AGS used to be higher on. HBU was also never an AGS top 25 team. They got close but it remains to be seen whether their early season run was a product of an easy schedule or a good team.

If you want to say SHSU has better wins than UND so be it, I just don't agree. Factor in UND's bad loss to EWU and I think the resumes are a push at best for SHSU and the obvious and easy tie breaker is head-to-head matchup.

I ranked SHSU in my AGS poll ballot this week at #24. I just had UND at #22. Same thing happened last year in the STATS and Coaches poll with SHSU consistently ranked in front of UND who had beaten them head-to-head with essentially the same record.

And I bitch way more about JSU's ranking/being ranked than I do about SHSU.

Sorry about the mis-step on HBU (#29), which is exactly where UC Davis is now, but not then. I think we will have to agree to disagree, but I can respect the opinion. Again, just trying to point out that I don't think UND>SHSU is an obvious assumption (since this seemed to be a foregone conclusion for a few). Perhaps this type of scrutiny occurs when everyone can agree on the top 8-11, but can basically throw darts for 20-25. Appreciate the responses though.

In this (STATS) poll for this week, Princeton (all Ivies) and NCA&T depends - if they win their conference no (their conference champ is committed to another game) but if they take second they can accept an at-large berth, if offered.

You guys put too much stock in games against the Bison. It's just one game. Sometimes teams play like ****. Sometimes they play well. Sometimes the schemes work and sometimes they don't. AGS.

It took a miracle for us to beat Idaho State in 2009 and they were hot garbage. We should have beat EWU in 2010 when they were awesome and we were garbage. **** happens.
yeah .. what he said ... I hope
