The conference schedule will increase to eight games starting in 2020 and make the Celebration Bowl representative game permanent.

“This initial step along with future implementation strategies will increase the likelihood of SWAC football teams qualifying for the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs via an at-large selection if they don’t qualify to participate in the Celebration Bowl.”

How will more games against teams that the playoff committee already doesn't value help qualification for the playoffs?

The plan is to schedule more games to help SOS like Southern playing McNeese, PV playing Nicholls, Bama State playing Kennesaw State and so forth. Where exactly did you draw your conclusion from?

Scheduling is only half the battle.

Not understanding how. They would have to be the 3rd place team unless they are going to move up the title game. Because the playoffs start before that. Not to mention Southern , Bama State and Grambling won't be able to go. So your possibly looking at 5 teams who can't go to the playoffs due to scheduling issues. I don't think this is gonna work

Nope.........unless the SWAC convinces the rest of the Nation to start the FCS playoffs the 2nd weekend in December...... xcrazyx

The only way this works is if the bigger Classic games move to the week before Thanksgiving or the FCS playoffs don't start until the week after Thanksgiving, so in other words, this is a nothingburger. Sure, SWAC teams can still "qualify" for the FCS playoffs if say PVAMU goes 10-1, beats UTEP and loses to Grambling, but that was true before this change, too. I don't see how this change makes that any more or less likely.

It almost happened twice in the last 5 years including last year with Alcorn. If Alcorn would've lost to JSU they would've missed the title game and been eligible for the FCS playoffs with a 8-3 record

They would have received zero consideration for an at large birth with 3 losses.
