Former Texas State coach David Bailiff, now the coach at I-A Rice University, applauds his alma mater.

"It would be something special to bring a true Division I team into Bobcat Stadium," said Bailiff, a 1981 graduate of the university known then as Southwest Texas State.

Last I checked...

Bobcat Stadium hosted three games in the Division I playoffs in 2005, the highest and truest form of championship competition in Division I football...

I'm just glad the Bearkats didn't consider giving up in 2004 with 30 seconds left and 70 yards to go with no timeouts. It was only one of the greatest comebacks ever.

that being said i was upset at the play call.

Well they certainly have top level d1 caliber facilities. Rice Stadium once hosted a superbowl and it's still a nice venue. They just renovated it again last year. The get a bad rap but they have a good amount of potential, for a school of only 4k students they have averaged as many as 36k fans in a season just in the last 10 years several years after they were out of the SWC and were around 20k much of the last 10 years. They also aren't as bad as some would think. They have had some winning seasons and compeditive seasons post SWC. Getting a school like Rice with the SWC tradition to play at a FCS would actually be a nice start IMO.
