North Dakota State has sold 700 more season tickets for Bison football games than at this time last year. Fans apparently haven’t forgotten about the team’s 10-1 record and No. 5 ranking in the final Division I-AA poll last season.

The figure reached about 6,500 on Wednesday, which was a pleasant surprise to Troy Goergen, assistant athletic director for marketing.

And yet still not eligible for the playoffs this coming year... xnonono2x

Great news for your team and your program. Keep it up. I look forward to the day we play you guys! I have a good friend from grad school who went to NDSU for undergrad. We'd definitely have a blast if you guys made the trip to Harrisonburg some day.

And if North Dakota's new corporate law is as effective as some people say it will be, I'll probably move there! How are the real estate prices?:p

They had to do something to get people out there.

Hell, put some casinos in a desert and millions will come.

Maybe doing this will get people out to the prairie.

How are the real estate prices?

Very low I'm sure.

Concordia-Morehead, MSU-Morehead? Both of which get outdrawn by Fargo HS games? xnodx xnodx PUH-lease! :p

and of course just north, the Sioux play on! xwhistlex

Weren't Bison consistently top 5 draw in D-II in their time there? Pretty certain that Bison were always the top attendence school in FB in the NCC. UND is the only ones to possibly push them out.

I don't think UNoDak has outdrawn NDSU in a long time

Concordia drew close to 4k a game last year, MSUM drew 1700, and UNODAK 8800

YSU Season Tickets are also on the rise from last year according to Athletic Director Ron Strollo. One of the big reasons is the fact that if you get season tickets, you are almost assured tickets to the YSU-OSU Game!

Great job, you've still got a ways to go to match Montana's 17 or 18K season ticket holders, with a fairly sizable waiting list. :D :p

That is good news. NDSU is certainly becoming a powerhouse and I look forward to seeing them go far in the playoffs when they are eligible.

I live in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul and have season tickets for NDSU. Many other Bison fans drive from Minnesota for games. Twins, Vikings, Gophers, Wild all draw many fans from the Dakota's. A large number of Fargo residents go to Minnesota lake country on the weekend. So why doesn't SDSU have the same following?

We just don't have the tradition yet that you guys have. Brookings is also what, 1/4th the size of Fargo?

The attendance has been getting better every year since we moved up, with a great home slate of games this year I think we'll do even better this year.

Brookings is actually barely 1/8th the size of Fargo/Moorhead. 165,000 or so in Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo-Dilworth-Horace compared to 20,000 or so in Brookings.

Still, I personally think that SDSU averaging almost 10,000 per game last year is pretty damned respectable.

Outside of Montana (16k or 17k or thereabouts) and Delaware (12k) who else has a season ticket base above the 6,500 that NDSU has? I'd imagine Southern or Jackson St might, and Youngstown either does already or certainly will with the OSU tie-in. Anyone know?

I think actually that the smaller the locale, the bigger the average crowd.

6,500 is a pretty good number but that should be higher in the following seasons considering NDSU is still not eligible for playoffs and will join the Gateway in 2008. Those two factors will surely help sales going forward.

SDSU is never going to have the spring attendance of NDSU, or even UND and USD, unless they get a dome.

The weather is just not made for it in the upper midwest.

It'd be cool if the Dakota 4 all had domes.
