Stadium Commission faces Barbour's pen: What's next for 'Vet'?

Jackson State Athletic Director Bob Braddy still wants an on-campus stadium for his university - like all the other football-playing universities in the state have had for decades.

But Braddy admits that the fiscal and political odds of that dream becoming a reality are long and says that the future of Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium as the home stadium for the JSU Blue Bengal Tigers relies on accountability. That's a refrain repeated by legislators, the current management of the stadium and others familiar with stadium management in Mississippi.



"We welcome the opportunity to have control of Memorial Stadium," said Braddy. "We want accountability. We just hope the state's not going to just throw us out there without the resources we need to be successful. That's only fair."

What's next?

#1. After this is signed........................ There will be no Stadium Commission anymore.
The Stadium will be under the Dept. of Finance.

#2. We will be playing RENT FREE, have complete control of the stadium, concessions, parking, etc.
The businesses that are located there will also be paying JSU.

#3. This is just the first step.
The ball is rolling and will continue to roll now that this JSU/UMC issue is not going to go away.
They just making the situation livable until they can actually give a project of this size a go.
Give it 1 or 2 more years.....................That stadium is gonna go and UMC is going to get that land.

Personally, I hope they f-up and turn over the entire 26 achres Memorial sit's on to JSU.
We could sell that shat and build anything we wanted then with all that money.xlolx

Gov. signs bill dissolving stadium commission

Gov. Haley Barbour has signed a bill that will dissolve the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium Commission and give control of the facility to the Department of Finance and Administration and Jackson State University.

Senate Bill 2745 abolishes the commission July 1, 2008.

The stadium is home to Jackson State University football games and high school state championships. The university’s $32 million request for a stadium on its west Jackson campus this year failed.

I'm wondering if the Governor thinks its better to turn the land over to JSU.
