Thought I'd kick this thread off

UNH just received private donations to go ahead and finish their second part of the locker room renovations. Much needed renovations if I might add. I Hope they have a little intro video when the whole thing is done.

Nothing on the books yet, but since it is Christmas time and we are all in the giving spirit, ACU is still taking donations to build our South end-zone complex ;)

The first phase

Renovating the west side of Delaware Stadium:

Chair backs for all seats in the middle three sections (C, D, E).
Upgraded restrooms and concessions.
Stadium Club space with bar, food and exclusive club seating.
Enhanced press box, including game day production spaces and coaches' booths.

Construction of a new athletic center for all UD student-athletes that will extend along the stadium's western facade to include:

Student Success Center

Integrated space for academic support, career preparation and leadership development.
Tutoring, mentoring, academic advising and study areas.
Academic lounge to build community and foster inter-team bonding.
Multipurpose rooms for guest lectures and press conferences.

Health & Well-Being Center:

10,000-square-foot strength and conditioning space to accommodate multiple teams simultaneously.
Enhanced athletic training space with satellite area for physical therapy partnership.
Grab-and-go healthy food options selected by a UD nutritionist.
Sports psychology areas to provide mental health resources through private consultations, team workshops and athlete educational sessions.
Hydrotherapy tubs for rejuvenation and therapeutic needs.

Anyone who has been to Delaware Stadium knows these upgrades are decades over due. This is obviously a massive investment into the football program and athletics.

So are they going to demo the entire West side stands then rebuild or are they just taking out a section of bleachers to install the chairbacks?

Good for the Rams! Meanwhile, in Lexington.......no talk of donors kicking in for lights, and the Practice Field's 11 year old SprinTurf is showing wear.

BUT; I did hear that they are expanding the FB building/Press Box.....(SoCon rules mandated this)...adding two broadcast booths (TV and Replay), and expanding the two radio booths (both now can barely hold two people), and the two Coach's booths.

Also, two more FB assistants' offices (right now, two assistants each share two offices), expanded ALumni lounge ........

Wouldn't most every other school throw this back in the architect's lap and say, "Put a sold out crowd there!"

The visitors side usually only has a few hundred there, with exceptions when 1-2,000 appear (not counting Laughyette Game).

The poor guys who will be in this press box will have the enviable position looking into the setting afternoon sun. TV cameras will need to have filters. I understand part of the reasoning was for the TV to show the home stands which are usually 2/3 to 3/4 full, as opposed to the 7,000 empty seats on the visitors side. I would think the coaches boxes will remain on the west side as they will be higher that than the new box. Other than getting a nice video board, nothing else needed.

Would Lehigh ever downsize Goodman, effectively shutting out the LC crowd? You don't want a situation when Butler turned the visitors side of the Butler Bowl to apartments.

No, that won't happen. We need the size for the Laughyette Game. 15 years ago when we averaged 10-12,000 a game it really impacted the atmosphere. Hopefully, if things turn around and some things change with the Administration's student policies, attendance will come back. I don't expect to the'halcyon' days, but having 8-10,000 would be nice. Having the capacity, (20,000 when the horseshoe is included) makes the site have potential for other events...of course, the lack of lights impacts that as well. Is there any plans to demolish the old grandstands (I assume the visitors side) and enclose the stadium in the near future?

Derby City Duke
May 6th, 2019, 11:43 AM
Near future? Doubtful. That was the original stadium when I was a student -- I used to keep drive charts for the SID's office from the roof of the pressbox. There were wooden bleachers that sat on the track on the opposite side of the field.

That is currently student/General Admission/Visitors section (believe the visitors also get a section in the corner of the upper deck on the home sideline if needed.

I would only expect JMU to finish the stadium as originally envisioned if they get the demand for more than the 24,877 official capacity and/or get invited to the FBS level (wouldn't expect them to move unless the AAC comes calling). It's been so long I can't remember if they were going to put a second level on the end zone seats. Not sure if that's doable because of the active railroad track that's pretty close.

I'd like to see them renovate the original side to match the new side and include camera platforms high enough to shoot from that side of the field.
