Hampton to name Billy Joe as the OC at Hampton after their guy left to go to Richmond. 31 years as a head coach for Billy Joe. This is a great pickup for Hampton...but wait, seems he may end up at Alabama St? What's going on? Is Joe back in the saddle or what?

HAMPTON -- Hampton University football coach Joe Taylor said Tuesday that he has hired former Florida A&M coach Billy Joe as the Pirates new offensive coordinator. Joe replaces Charles Bankins, who resigned this week to become the running backs coach at the University of Richmond.

Joe coached 11 sesaons at FAMU, which plays against Hampton in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. He led the Rattlers to an 86-46 record from 1994-2004, including four MEAC titles and seven postseason appearances.

He was fired in June 2005 because the Rattlers were under NCAA investigation for rules violations. FAMU was placed on probation for 196 violations in 15 men's and women's sports, but the NCAA cleared Joe of any responsibility.

Then later...the reporter posted...

Might need to hold the phone on Billy Joe. Sounded earlier today like he was coming to Hampton as offensive coordinator and I posted saying that.

But it sounds like he's now more seriously in the mix for the vacant head coaching job at Alabama State.
