If you pick NDSU and they win, then you can't pick them for the NC game and if EWU wins, you can't pick them again. So Maine is your only hope. And, even then, if somehow SDSU pulls off the upset, you can't pick either Maine nor SDSU in the NC game.

I think the best strategy in this game, would be to pick a team that you think will win in the round you are in but will lose in the next round. You keep doing that each round working your way up to the strongest teams in the end.

For reference, I made 100% of my picks trying to anticipate this outcome. It was a risk that paid off.

Well, after I screwed up with my pick in the second round before realizing what the strategy for this game was, I picked Weber hoping they would win. I was then going to go with EWU in the semi-finals and NDSU in the final. But Maine ended my participation in the contest.

I felt pretty good about all my other picks, but since I picked Maine last week I'm forced with EWU. This one has me worried, because after re-watching that Maine/Weber game, Maine might have the right kind of defense against the right kind of offense to pull the win off on EWU. I didn't want to pick between NDSU and SDSU during the previous rounds because one of them is the champion.

I suspected that was your strategy. Not a bad idea, if you went with the herd you’d basically be hoping to win a random draw among a dozen people. I won last year and I think there were only two other people alive in the finals and not many were even in the SF.
