The SHU vs. Duquesne game could decide the NEC conference championship on Saturday with a 4-0 SHU team taking on a 3-1 Duquesne squad. Here are the possible scenarios that could develop over the next two weeks:
If SHU wins, they will win the championship and secure the automatic bid to the playoffs as they would hold the tie-breakers with Duquesne and CCSU should either of them finish 5-1.
If Duquesne wins, they will be 4-1 and could be looking at another “championship game” next week assuming CCSU defeats StFU - CCSU is a 6 point favorite for the game in Loretto. A Duquesne win in week 12 would give them the title and a trip to the playoffs.
CCSU’s only chance to secure the conference championship would require CCSU to defeat StFU on Saturday and Duquesne next Saturday, while SHU loses to Duquesne and StFU in consecutive weeks. In that situation, CCSU would end up 5-1 while Duquesne and SHU would each be 4-2.
And if you really want to have some fun, there is still an outside chance for a four way tie between SHU, Duquesne, CCSU and StFU where they all finish 4-2. If that happens, which the odds say it won’t, Duquesne would get the automatic bid based on the various tie-breakers the NEC uses.
Meanwhile, Bryant is a 4.5 point favorite against Wagner and RMU is a 28 point underdog at EKU. Bryant struggled without their starting QB last week, getting behind 17-0 in the first quarter before settling down. RMU got flattened by SHU, giving up almost 350 yards on the ground last week. EKU averages almost 225 rushing yards per game, so it could be another long day for the RMU defense.
