View Full Version : Delaware loses another WR

David Boler... considered UD's top WR is out for the year with an ACL. Boler injured the knee in preseason workouts. He will apply for a medical red-shirt. This is a big blow to the Hen's offense as earlier this year they lost WR Justin Long to a violation of university policy. Long had 68 catches last year and Boler 65. UD has a couple of Fr red-shirt WRs they are high on... but Boler and Long will be very difficult to replace.

133 catches speak for themselves. Sonny & our 2 promising red-shirt FR receivers are going to need to step up big-time.

This is hard times. You have two back ups who have seen little to no action. How do you Delaware fans feel this will hurt you in the race for the A-10 title. It is obvious that these guys where a big part of the offense. Can these two losses put you guys out of the race?

UD has two other WRs returning with a lot of experience... Bleymaier... 32 catches in '04 and Ingram... 19... but the key will be... two red-shirt freshmen Armand Cauthen (a highly touted GA recruit from Douglas Co HS) and Kervin Michard. Both were expected to contribute this year... but now those guys will have to step up and play a lot and play well if the Hens are to compete for another A10 title. The loss of both Boler and Long is big... but hopefully the new kids can get the job done. All programs lose key players... but the top ones overcome those loses... hopefully UD will be proven to be a top program once again.

I'm guessing the Lehigh fans will be salivating. They will develop as the season progresses, but it is hard to imagine them stepping in Week 1 and being confident contributors. Defense will have to step it up and the running game will have to shoulder more of the load early in the season.

However, after the Lehigh game, the schedule shapes up pretty well as only the Hofstra game at home in Week 5 should be competitive. First big test likely to come 10/22 against JMU, though. Plenty of time for the offense to find it's stride.

Tough break, UD. Hope the redshirt request flies through for you and you get to have the opposite problem next year of too much experience and not enough playing time or passes to go around.

Any chance of a late position switch? Colgate's in a similar position (not with injuries though) of lack of WR experience - but we had some TB depth. Last year's 3rd string TB (as a soph) is now looking to start at WR.

No... UD will go with the two returning Sr wideouts and four red-shirt Fr WRs. Supposedly all the Fr have talent... but they were expected to be slowly worked into the offense this year... but will now have to be key contributors early on.

UD won the NC two seasons ago with a punishing defense and a strong ground game. That may have to be your formula again. Let your linemen carry you to the promised land...

Understatement of the year. Give the ball to Omar in Harrisonburg and Williamsburg last year and the Hens may still be playing today. :bang:

I agree they have the ground game but isnt the D a question mark as well?

The D is pretty solid, the LB's should be the strength of the team & we have probably the best D-Linemen in the land in Tom Parks.

Offense will definitely be the question, Sonny was hot & cold last year, Cuff is a stud, but OL & WR will be ? marks.

The OL is a bigger concern than the 'D'... but that could be resolved if the two OT transfers step in and perform well.
