The A.D. just released these renderings for the proposed outdoor stadium on campus. Not a bad looking facility and it looks like it would allow plenty of room to add on as need be. Not sure how many this thing will sit, but it was reported earlier to be 15,000 or so.

Can't wait to be there when we kick it off in 2010!!

Looks like Finley except with grass hills on both sides.

And lets all agree on something, ANYTHING is better than the Mini-Dome

Never could understand why the Bucs played indoors.

The general appearance is very similar to Gibbs Stadium. Not surprising since the architectural firm is from Spartanburg.

Looks like Elon's place to me. I think seating capacity is to be around 10,000.

Good looking facility. Kind of a cross between the stadiums at UT-Chattanooga and Georgia Southern.

Good luck getting it done!!!

Football was dropped before I got here, but I can tell from pictures that the Mini Dome sucked. We're all looking forward to the day it is just a pile of rubble, and we can watch football with the Fall mountains as the backdrop.

We're voting on football in exactly 2 weeks, hopefully it will go well and the fee will be approved. There is quite a bit of negativity going around with the student fee, but I'm hoping that its just a very vocal minority. (we have lots of anti-establishment anti-social types) I'm thinking right now it's a crap shoot. I'll keep 'ya posted on how the vote goes. Thanks for all the encouragement, hope to see you in 2010. GO BUCs!

Does anyone have any pics of the Minidome set up for football? I have looked online but have not been able to find any good ones. I am one of the few that likes football games in domes.

Looks good, pretty much prototypical of all the stadium plans I've seen in the past 5-10 years.

I do have to ask, what is with the slightly bowed sides? I understand it focuses the seats a little more toward the center of the field, but is that necessary for sides that only go to the goal lines? My seats in the Tub last year were in the last section of the sides and I don't really recall wishing they were pointed in. It's not a big deal, but it does move the seats on the 50 further away from the field.

It wasn't so much of a dome as a glorified chicken house. The sight lines were terrible.

This is the best I could find of the "Memorial Center":

Looks just like Campbell's design for their new stadium, with a hint of Coastal's Brook Stadium.

My best guess is potential for someday closing in one or both of the ends. Could make it easier to do should that day come.

it must be the design that everyone thinks is the best at the moment because these arent the only two schools that look lilke that... why would all these schools want to look the same???

The sunken field with brick pressbox is popular in the south, it looks like.

Well at least UR's is somewhat different looking. Though we are stuck with the current track at the First Market location...

My friends and I called it the Mini-Barn.
The last time I was there it looked like the roof could cave in at any moment.

Those renderings are actually more similar to Dorman High's place than Gibbs Stadium. Sorry Wofford folk. DHS's place is the nicest in town. Nicer than several SoCon stadiums.

That's not an insult.

Dorman has more money than most SoCon teams. Too bad their football team isn't very good.

Man I hated that place. Line of sight blocked about 10 to 15 feet of the field from the sidelines. And I always held my breath watching players run into the walls past the end zonesxsmhx

Looks like they used the same design firm as Presbyterian.

Constructed in 2002, the new Bailey Memorial Stadium features a state-of-the-art press box, 6,500 seat grandstand, the Yonce field house, and a full color video board. The Press Box has four levels. The Concourse Level gives Blue Hose fans a chance to buy concessions, PC merchandise, and see Cyrus Bailey, our 13 foot bronze Scotsman. On the second level there are the Scotsman Club and Letterman's Club boxes for our Scotsman Club members and alumni sports letter winners. The Presidential Level showcases the President's box, game operations, sports information, and two radio booths. Home and visiting coaches boxes and game filming are on the top floor. Yonce field house will house the Blue Hose and visiting teams on game day and will be the locker room for the Blue Hose baseball team in the spring. The scoreboard features a full color video board for game graphics, player bios, DVD and VHS playback.

It makes Gibbs look very large by comparison. Of course we don't have a 13 foot high man in a dress.

Most modern stadia (?stadiums) seem to be very similar in design.

What from I can tell looking at ETSU's old place (never actually been there) it aint even big enough for a game... looks like its not long enough for 100 yards let alone end zones

I think the common theme in these new designs is the ability to expand once the attendance warrants it. Plenty of room to either bowl in or expand either side. Gotta love brick construction, it's a much warmer look than concrete.

I agree. I think that the brick design allows a stadium to take on a certain "character" all its own.
