I made mention of this in the game thread. At the time there were very little details other than he had no movement. This sucks xsmhx

At least he was at a place with a top notch hospital nearby so treatment wasn’t delayed too much.

Sad story.

Reed added there had been no change in Abercrombie's condition overnight and that he is still in "very critical condition."

I saw a tweet earlier from a woman who says she is his Godmother. She stated that he is improving.

Glad to hear the TSU player appears to be improving.

FWIW, there was one point this summer where I thought there was a chance I’d actually be attending the Tennessee State/Vanderbilt game. The Eagles played in Nashville against the Titans on Sunday, and I gave some thought to making a road trip to attend. Had I gone, I probably would have attended the TSU/VU game on Saturday. I typically don’t attend random FBS/FCS matchups on my trips, but with the game being an all-Nashville affair, I thought that game would be a little more intriguing if I went, even if it wasn’t close. (NOTE: It was close - Vandy only won 31-27 and trailed in the 4th quarter.) Both flight and hotel prices were high though, ironically (probably) because of a large conference in a field related to my job (supply chain logistics) taking place in Nashville this week; I know a few people attending that conference.

I wouldn’t have wanted to see that situation with the TSU player live.

https://hbcugameday.com/2018/10/01/ncaa-shuts-down-go-fund-me-campaigns-tsu-linebacker-christion-abercrombie/This sounds really weird and punitive, would a college athlete be able to start a GoFundMe page if they had cancer, could they start a GoFundMe page for a child of theirs that was sick. I get that the insurance is going to take of this guy but what if he is disabled or something from this, is that covered by the insurance or does he get stuck on some ****ty government disability program. I am really kind of at a loss on this one. I get that there is a "college" sponsored GoFundMe for him but how can you stop somebody else for doing on for him. I have no idea how this would effect eligibility.

I think it's in tune with the letter of the law, but not the spirit of the law. The NCAA are douchebags for even taking time to comment on it.

great to hear he seems to be improving .. hopefully they are able to figure out what happened and why as well.

The NCAA thing is a tough one ... imagine what could happen if athletes, families, agents started taking advanatge of GoFundMe in more and more situations. Just a tough one ... have to draw a line or others will take full advantage if NCAA does nothing. No easy answer to this.

I bet the NCAA would not shut down a "gofundme" site if the lad played for 'Bama or Clemson or Notre Dame or Penn State or Ohio State...........where they have more cash than Warren Buffet.

That is false reporting. There is a GoFundMe for him:

There is an NCAA approved GoFunMe ran by Tennessee State Athletics

Quote:NCAA approved GoFundMe set up to support Christion and his family.

This is the only NCAA approved GoFundMe set up to assist with the support of Christion Abercrombie and his family.

Per NCAA legislation, Tennessee State University is the only entity permitted to solicit funds for the student-athlete and his family.

NCAA allows Tennessee State to have a GoFundMe - which you can contribute to:

I certainly see the potential for abuse for something like that, but they should make allowances for certain situations.
