Here's the blog post for this week's poll: http://thefcswedge.com/ags-poll/ags-poll-week-2-top-25-results/

Some initial thoughts.

Good for Rhode Island getting into the AGS top 25 for the first time ever! (I believe)
Good for AGS in getting 100 ballots cast... I would guess that's an all-time high. (EDIT: Not a record but looks like it is the highest voter turnout since 2011)
Not much movement in the rankings relative to this time of year so nothing to get too crazy about but I guess that would be expected given the results last weekend.

I like this much better than the new stats poll. That said, I think EWU at 4 is somewhat unjustified.

Hopefully UND can upset SHSU this week. Wonder how far they would drop in the poll...

Why is Princeton not included in the top 25?

They are still undefeated this season!

Yeah, they at least have a good win right now but considering the consensus for NAU is 20th and EWU barely beat them, albeit on the road in a tough place to play, it does seem like EWU is up there because most voters are probably still a little hesitant to move a team that's really impressed so far this year like NC A&T or Maine ahead of them. I also think Wofford at #10 is a little head scratching. Compare what they've done this year to what Maine (who is ranked right behind them) has done and it's not even close.

Thought about both Furman and UNH for significant loss, however, I selected Samford because if my mind, significant loss doesn't always have to be a negative. In my years of voting, it seems multiple teams could be considered for significant loss.

Not saying it's correct, but Villanova's finish to last season may impact some voters' perception of this season.

Yes, some of you guys need to check in on the poll voter forum a bit more as I update when we have problems in that thread...and we will likely have this problem every week so if you are at the tail end of voting you will not receive these until the following day most likely. I take great care to update and keep voters informed in the "vote is open" threads and you will need to go look in on these things so you know what is happening if you have questions.

Here is this mornings offering that states who was not getting emails as of that moment, you are on that list.

Overall a great poll. The only thing I could sort of gripe about is Nicholls falling five ranks after an FBS loss when they beat a P5 earlier in the season. Surprised to see Maine jump up as high as 11 too.

I'd like to point out that last year we thought Nova was good as well. They started out this year similar to last year by beating Lehigh (which at the time looked like a quality win) and should have beat Temple.

Just something to keep in mind.

I was surprised to see that drop as well but spots 12-15 are bunched really tight (all within 40 points of each other) and Nicholls fell on the bottom end of that group so it wouldn't take much for them to hop up 3 spots. It is a little strange that a team like Weber State jumped them with a 7 point win over Cal Poly but there were 15 more voters this week too so that can skew things a bit when comparing to last week also.

Not impressed with Maine yet? McNeese above them?

In defense of Wofford, we pretty much beat the Kansas of FCS in ~1 quarter when last year it took us at least 2.5. We set a program record for yardage despite taking the foot off the gas 5 minutes into the third quarter. On one hand, we have a first year head coach and are adding some wrinkles; on another, we bring back most of the starters from a Socon title team and seed. The former would make anyone cautious about being bullish, but given the latter information and the improvement we showed in both of the first two games, there's reason to be optimistic.

Having said that, there's not enough information either way and we have to start beating teams not named VMI convincingly again.

FWIW I ranked Wofford ahead of Maine (I had Wofford at 11 I think), but it was a hard, static poll to cast this week because so many teams won so easily that the counterfactual I ask myself is "what more would you want them to do this week to not get dropped." I don't punish teams for winning convincingly, if that makes sense.

So as soon as teams stop winning convincingly and or losing, they will drop and if Maine continues this trend, they will climb.

Polls are never perfect and always subjective. Especially after #1/2

From 12 down who do you think has a better season going so far?

It's all up in the air. I do know their opponents are a combined 0-4 though. It's only week 2, but I know you'll turn around and say that to me, "it's only week 2".

I'm much higher on Stony Brook than most. Air Force is a brutally tough to play and they beat up a generally competitive Bryant team.

How do you have 2 Ivy League teams in the Top-25, when they haven't played a single game yet?

Your #24 Princeton Tigers lost 4 straight to end last season and finished the season at 5-5.

Your #14 Yale Bulldogs did win the Ivy last year and finished 9-1, but only beat PL teams non-conference.

This type of bias is why it is so hard for NEC teams to ever get any respect in these polls - they are absent thoughts until mid-season. Come on!

Overall a great poll. The only thing I could sort of gripe about is Nicholls falling five ranks after an FBS loss when they beat a P5 earlier in the season. Surprised to see Maine jump up as high as 11 too.

Pigs are flying. Rhode Freaking Island is ranked.

That was a bit too much for Maine. They beat a now unmasked terrible NH team and they have their scalp. Good, but not enough to shoot that far, yet.

As far as Nicholls goes, they dropped in mine a little, but some of that was being jumped, and I probably had them a bit too high, one or two spots.

I had them in the preseason poll! I'm not going to penalize them for not playing a game! Princeton returns Lovitt at QB who was injured last year. The Tigers have all the makings of a Top 25 team. Yale has #11 Maine and Mercer coming up. They'll prove their worth for better or worse!

Why the hell would I have bias towards the Ivy League? If I had bias I would have Colgate in the Top 20! You create a feeling of disrespect for no reason.

Who from the NEC should be ranked?

I don't care who Princeton has, they finished last season 5-5. They should NOT have been preseason ranked based on a single player. Win some games, then vote.

Yale certainly has a chance to make some noise with their schedule this year, but if they get "preseason credit" for being defending Ivy League champs, why doesn't the NEC champ get the same respect?

I wouldn't put Colgate in the Top-25 just yet, but a win over Furman and they're in.

Same for the NEC - no Top-25 teams yet. SHU is already 2-0, I can't help it if their PL opponents suck, and if CCSU takes care of Columbia, last season's Ivy runner-up then they should be getting some votes.

Not real sure why Montana and Weber St are so high? Also, really, how is PVAM not in the T25. If you think SHSU is a T10 team then PVAM has to be in the T25 with them.

Look at how they preformed against CP vs CP against NDSU. There is no way that is a T15 squad. T20, sure I can make that assessment and even then, it is tough. Looking back, I should have had USeD above them.

Agreed. Especially considering they are #5 and A&T is #6. A&T's resume is better right now. With them being so close in points, they should flip-flopped. Probably just one vote swung the result.

At this point, I don't think teams should be ranked simply because you "had them in the preseason poll." Teams with actual resumes this year should be ranked, but I subscribe to the method of voting that tries to rank teams on what they have accomplished to this point, not where I believe they will end the season (or how they finished last season).

I don't disagree. The way I see it, and this is without knowing their schedule on the top of my head, if the finish 8-3 or so or better they'll probably be ranked, but any worse on my ballot, but any more losses than that and there's just too much noise for me to have confidence in them. The questions of *when* I rank them is another story. Because idk when that would be.

Not saying it's correct, but Villanova's finish to last season may impact some voters' perception of this season.

I'd like to point out that last year we thought Nova was good as well. They started out this year similar to last year by beating Lehigh (which at the time looked like a quality win) and should have beat Temple.

Just something to keep in mind.

The bold ones I would like some explanation as to why you put them where you them.

Villanova: hasn’t impressed me enough to warrant anything higher. Temple win is decent but Temple isn’t exactly a Top tier FBS G5 so that feels a lot like NC A&T’s ECU win. Lehigh isn’t exactly a juggernaut either so they haven’t proven to me that they deserve anything higher.

Elon: played a solid USF squad and lost bad but bounced back against Furman and won pretty handily. I don’t know how well they’re going to fare in conference so they’re where they’re at until they can prove to me they can win in conference.

McNesse St: played 2 games and won both. Barely won against NoCo but beat HBU pretty handily. I think they could possibly win the Southland this year as I don’t really favor SHSU this year.

Chatty: Won both their games so far and they look strong in my eyes. I see them winning the SoCon over Wofford this year based on what I’ve seen of Wofford and Chatty so far.

Samford: Just hasn’t impressed me really. Had they pulled the FSU upset then I’d be having them higher. That FSU game showed me they don’t have the stamina to face top competition.

How is losing 34-14 "bad" to a very strong USF squad? I'd say we did slightly better than expected. USF put up 49 on Georgia Tech. You're right about needing to prove ourselves in the conference but 21? I have us at 12, and I think anything between 11-16 is fair.

Considering we lost by 40+ to Georgia I guess 20 isn’t that bad but the big thing for me with you guys is that you need to prove yourselves in conference. You win your first couple conference games then I’ll rank you higher. I can’t rank a team highly if they’re unproven.

This is BS. FBS is FBS. Even though these teams are bad FBS teams, they are still a full level up from FCS. I think NDSU's successes against FBS has desensitized us to the value and difficulty in beating an FBS team. I know some will want to argue with me, but beating a lower tier FBS is the equivalent of beating a top 10 FCS team in my opinion. Acting like an FBS win by an FCS team is somehow a weak win is laughable.

We proved ourselves last year against our conference (6-2), return 18 starters, and look to be even better than last year. We have a veteran OLine, some experienced DBs, an All-American LB in Warren Messer, a stud sophomore QB, 4 exceptional RBs, and tied for the best coach in the CAA (Houston). It'd be one thing if we were winning without having the good pieces that make it up. Idk, not sure why this is getting me slightly riled up, but I think it's because being ranked 18-21 by some is continuing to show us the little respect we've gotten the past year. We'll play on, I know we thrive off of being doubted.

Lehigh isn’t exactly a juggernaut either so they haven’t proven to me that they deserve anything higher. I don't know what more Nova can do than to earn a T10 placement. Sure, I'd even settle for 15 but if you think there are 23 better teams in the FCS, then I am completely confused.

Elon: played a solid USF squad and lost bad but bounced back against Furman and won pretty handily. I don’t know how well they’re going to fare in conference so they’re where they’re at until they can prove to me they can win in conference. Eh, the Furman win for me, was more than a win but a shalacking of a potential FCS playoff team.

McNesse St: played 2 games and won both. Barely won against NoCo but beat HBU pretty handily. I think they could possibly win the Southland this year as I don’t really favor SHSU this year. They squeaked by a mediocre UNC and beat a bad HBU

Chatty: Won both their games so far and they look strong in my eyes. I see them winning the SoCon over Wofford this year based on what I’ve seen of Wofford and Chatty so far. They were being beaten by an atrocious TTU and squeaked by a mediocre The Citadel.

Samford: Just hasn’t impressed me really. Had they pulled the FSU upset then I’d be having them higher. That FSU game showed me they don’t have the stamina to face top competition. They were tubthumping FSU and if it weren't for the refs, they would have beaten them. That is not to say that Hodges did not make some bad/questionable throws, but they are in the same boat as Nova. If you think there are 18 better teams than Samford, then I am confused again.

Still waiting to see who actually put WIU in their top 25 and why (because it looks like a few did). I don't think we've done anything to deserve it yet, personally, but maybe it's just that nobody else has done enough on the positive side to move further up yet.

It's really early in the season so I'm not inclined to get too worked up about where teams are placed on your poll, but we post our ballots for discussion right?

Who is proven yet? NDSU has only beat a mediocre (or so we assume right now) team so far. Is that a proven team? IMO Elon has achieved better results so far than several teams you have ranked higher than them. They seem low on your poll if you are only basing it on results so far this season.

Ouch. We did take Wofford to the wire as well. As much as I like to bad mouth them so far, we are not doing terrible.

But in general in regard to Chatty, they are much better than last year. They will make some waves this year. I think Samford is in the drivers seat and Wofford is right there, but Chatty is the new Dark horse. Maybe we are a hair over mediocre....?xnodx

I gave you respect with THE CITADEL tho, so that has to count for something. xlolx I know I forgot the obligatory Furman sucks, so please forgive me. I didn't say you were bad as well, so take that as a compliment. You should easily handle the team in purple this year.

Can’t argue this post so I’m just going to say good job. I watched a lot of football this weekend and my Top 25 was based on how well teams performed in their respective games. DayTripper and his comment about FCS over FBS wins mean as much as a top 10 FCS win says to me that they don’t know just how bad those bottom 20 or so FBS teams really are. I’d argue that most if not all of them wouldn’t even crack the top 25 in FCS. Most of those bottom 20 teams in the FBS would be better off in FCS but the few that wouldn’t are the P5 bottom feeders. Winning over a bad FBS means absolutely nothing if you can’t put everything together after that game.

A win is a win. Both of the wins have come on the road, one against a team we had no history with and in an altitude the Cowboys are not used to. UNC made good adjustments at the half. Maybe the Cowboys burned out in the thin air in the second half or our coach decided to play conservatively, but they escaped with a win. Having McNeese so high, even I would question. However, all of the polls do have McNeese ranked. This weekend against Nicholls should answer a lot of questions. Maybe the answer will be who has the best swimmers as a tropical storm is heading to the Texas/Louisiana coast.

A scalp is always nice, but I have to kind of agree with you. There are some really bad FBS out there. I am not sure the bottom 20-30 would be ranked in FCS, especially the G5 of that crowd. Maybe a few, but not many. The quality of player of some of these bad teams is not very different from top half of FCS. They just have more. I also think there is a difference between the dregs of the P5 and G5. There are some very good G5 teams, but the bottom can be real bad.

In any event, I will still always give an FCS team poll credit for a win though. I just weigh it, depending on who they beat, like I would any other game.

Take Charlotte for instance. How does anyone think they would do against NDSU, JMU, SDSU, E Wash, KSU, NC A&T, Samford, SHSU, Villanova and Wofford? They might very well go o'fer 10. Or win 1 or maybe 2 at most. They are not close to FCS top 10. Look at UTEP. They lost to N Arizona who just lost at home to E Wash. There is a good reason that the bottom G5 does not schedule the top 25-30 FCS very often. Sometimes they get caught by a surprisingly good team, like WKU did with Maine. Or Georgia State almost did with KSU. I am sure Ga St never thought KSU would be this good, this fast when they scheduled it. I mean, do you see Kent scheduling Youngstown St or NDSU? Nope.

% chance whoever voted SDSU #1 (lol) posts their poll? -18% xlolx

Is that higher or lower than the % chance whoever voted JMU #1 posts their poll? Guessing NDSU just missed the top 25 in both. :D

In all seriousness though, it would be interesting to see both polls, just to see how the other teams are ranked in each. It is really fun to see how people perceive each team and how each team is compared to one another. One of the reasons I really enjoy and value the AGS Poll.

This is BS.

Beating a bottom 10 FBS team is not the equivalent of beating a top 10 FCS team IMHO. There are some rally BAD FBS teams. ECU, Charlotte, NMSU, Kansas, most of the MAC, Sun Belt, etc.

My big difference in my vote vs. AGS poll is Nichols and Maine. I will need to review next week.

I haven't gotten back my poll yet but when I do I will post it but here are a few of my thoughts from the polls of others.

If Eastern Washington is highly ranked shouldn't Northern Arizona be close to the Eagles? EWU won 31-26 and it appeared to be a close game.

Samford gave Florida State all they wanted in Tallahassee leading late in the 4th quarter. That game showed me they can compete with any FCS team.

James Madison only won 17-0 but they only played the 1st quarter. They are a top 2-5 team for sure. That defense is just nasty.

Southern Illinois scored a TON of points on SEC Ole Miss. Did they give up a ton yes but they showed me a lot and there won't be any FCS teams with an offense like that.

Villanova looks legit again with a big win over Temple and a thumping Lehigh on the road.

I'm guessing there were a few voters that are completely unaware of that (not necessarily Rob). I imagine it'll have a weird effect on the computer polls too. Not sure how they would/should factor a game that gets called after only 1 quarter.

I assume you don't believe Sacramento State is a top 10 FCS team haha

They should be, based on what they've got—they went 7-4 last year & lost very little. They also just took one of the best MWC teams to the wire. Top-10 might admittedly be a little bit of a stretch, but that's where I had them in the preseason & I haven't seen a reason to change that.

We'll see if they piss down their leg like so many other Sac State teams have in the past, but that's really the only reason to doubt them.

The first two weeks aren't even enough to really assess that for most teams. Not enough of them have played key games yet. I picked Sac high in the preseason and nothing has changed my opinion of them so far—this argument also applies to James Madison, NDSU, & Kennesaw State.

That might change throughout the season, as more games are played. I subscribe to the practice of not basing rankings on the preseason poll, but I know not everyone agrees.

Thought about both Furman and UNH for significant loss, however, I selected Samford because if my mind, significant loss doesn't always have to be a negative. In my years of voting, it seems multiple teams could be considered for significant loss.

I also picked Samford as the most significant loss for exactly the same reason. I watched the whole game and the Bulldogs looked very good.

Well, you dropped them 7 spots. I'm not sure what you expected them to do in one quarter of football.

Funny, I had no idea. I didn't work off of last week's poll, so you know that better than I do.

Not impressed with the Nova win over Temple, but yet Kennesaw impressed the crap out of you by losing to AGS whipping boy Georgia State?

I swear it feels like there are 25 teams deserving top 10 rankings based on how quickly some posters want to elevate teams well above where they were a year ago .. in some cases, well above where they've been for several years. The first 2 weeks are atypically slanted towards FBS games and FCS patsies ... some of the FBS games are legit top 50-60 level FBS teams, but many are FBS doormat teams.

So the idea that 2 games into this season, some posters and pollsters are so quick to elevate a team based on so little info .. just seems very premature for this point in season. Sure, there will be teams that jump in rankings .. but this is week 2, need to give it more weeks.

Maybe people are just overly eager to pick the next surprise team to emerge. That said, I'll admit it is not a bad year to bet on more surprises .. I do think field is much more wide open after NDSU and JMU than it's been in a while.

In the early polls I weight the history and tradition of the program along with returning class size and those types of things. I will adjust accordingly during the course of the year.

That's why I'm glad my Bears didn't drop out of the rankings! It took FBS Tulsa a fumbled kickoff to finally put us away late in the fourth and a drenching rainstorm to allow Murray State to hang within 2 TDs of us.... and that's with replacing all but one olineman, QB, our best players on defense, and our head coach. The Southeastern Louisiana game this Saturday should solidify us in the top 15 if its a win OR bump us waaaay down to the bottom of the top 25 with a loss. Hanging with an FBS is good. Beating one is better. NOT beating yourself means more to me. But we're young and an FBS game and a weather influenced game doesn't really tell the tale of this team. HOPEFULLY the weather will be nice in Louisiana Saturday! Then we'll know.

There appears to be a good mix of philosophies among the voting pool when it comes to early season voting and I think that's why the AGS poll is more fluid than the STATS or Coach's polls are where they hold onto preseason notions far too long IMO. It all sorts itself out by midseason anyway.

For me the biggest value of these early season polls is to identify those "come out of nowhere" teams with the teams that may not be living up to preseason hype and start comparing them now. It makes things a lot easier as the season goes along. That's one of the reasons why I don't agree with the notion that we shouldn't do polls until week 6 or something like that. No matter when you start a poll the first few rankings are going to be pretty ugly until you get a better feel for all the teams that are and should be in consideration amongst each other.

When submitting it always best to have that "How They Fared" link opened and copied to a spreadsheet where you are moving selections around to sort out placement. It eliminated or at least mitigates these kind of errors for you.

If anybody thinks they did not receive their Wk1 ballot then please go the appropriate thread in the voter forum and request it and I will try to send those tomorrow or Thursday. I think POD has said he hadn't so wanted to give an opportunity to get those if you have not for some reason.

To be fair I wouldn't doubt if those were votes they had last week as well but the AGS Poll only lists the top 40 and last week #40 had 13 points (this week #40 had 6 points). Having said that I have no idea why anyone would think YSU is a top 25 team right now. They aren't even on my watch list and I've got 16 teams on there other than the 25 in my poll ballot.

For me I needed to see that Maine's UNH victory wasn't just a product of overwhelming emotion combined with the loss of UNH's starting QB.

I had UC Davis at the bottom of my top 40.

Probably could've moved Elon up a little more but not too many slots. Thought Furman would be more competitive; will be interested in seeing if they can right the ship.

This is my first year voting, and I take the responsibility very seriously. I had a spreadsheet open with last week's poll, how they fared, and my last week's poll open side-by-side-by-side and still made that one mistake. In the end, if this team wins lots of games, it may not be a mistake after all. (Fingers crossed.)

The former Fighting Sioux went to #9 Washington and for 3 quarters, it was a contest. UW scored 21 points in the 4th quarter. I have seen worse picks for the top 25 in some of these polls, so, yes, UND! It's not like I have them #1. We will get an idea this weekend as they travel to Huntsvegas. However, with a tropical wave heading toward Texas, it may be a swimming competition.

UND has a new QB and an excellent all-purpose yard man in Santiago.

Good job man, keep it up. That goes for all the other newbs as well.

This week was a hectic one for polling. Looking back on my poll now and thinking about things clearly I came to a few conclusions:

1. I seem to not have good eyesight when looking at scores on ESPN and I didn’t realize Chatty lost a game.

2. Kennesaw is not nearly as good as I had originally thought and I really messed up their ranking.

3. My opinion on Villanova is drastically different from everyone else. That Temple win was not a quality win by any means yet people still think they’re top 10. I just don’t see it. If they can do well in the conference then maybe I’ll change my mind.

4. Samford is a better team than I originally gave them credit for. Looking back on the FSU game and watching back I realized that my notions that they’re not that great of a team was completely unrealistic.

5: McNeese might be a little high but considering that I have them as favorites to win their conference over SHSU I think they’re actually ok where they’re at. Maybe I’m seeing something in them everyone else isn’t?

This happens.

A bit high at this point I think.

3. My opinion on Villanova is drastically different from everyone else. That Temple win was not a quality win by any means yet people still think they’re top 10. I just don’t see it. If they can do well in the conference then maybe I’ll change my mind.
Maybe? I think you are already a bit behind the curve on this one but you have as much a chance as I at being right on this one. The Temple win is quality. At least as quality as anyone else' at this point I think.

4. Samford is a better team than I originally gave them credit for. Looking back on the FSU game and watching back I realized that my notions that they’re not that great of a team was completely unrealistic.
I think you are correct here for the same reason I think you are wrong on the last one. FSU ain't great but it is a quality effort and that is that.

McNeese seems to be on an upswing for several years and coming up a bit short but I could see them winning it (SLC) this season so don't disagree here.

It may work out that way, but I had KSU at #2 preseason; even though their loss was to Georgia State (apparently the worst FBS school EVER), they were a machine against TTU. I put them #2 based on what they had coming back from a pretty darn good team. Not ready to knock them down just yet. The biggest thing working against the Owls, IMO, is the inability to sneak up on anybody this year -- everybody knows what they did in '17 and can study the tape.

I think JMU is still a great bet to make Frisco, but we only have 5 quarters of football under our belt to this point and I don't think Robert Morris will tell us much about our team tomorrow night. In retrospect I'm glad Norfolk State didn't want to play the last 3 quarters on Saturday; if it had been a full game, I'm not sure we would be playing RMU early...or at all.

Kennesaw state plays like a normal option team. Can beat anybody if they get slept on, but also can draw an unnecessarily close game if they sleep on anyone. Also liable to blow outs like anyone else

I agree they may be a touch overrated, but they made it to the top 8 in FCS last year and have looked pretty good so far. They deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Yep. IMO it's still too early to discount last year completely and they beat both Samford and Jacksonville St in the playoffs, they return more from last year's team than either of those two do, and both of those two teams are ranked (Samford quite highly I might add).

I think Kennesaw state is legit, and they have a lot coming back from a year ago. Georgia St may have gone 7-5, but they played the 125th ranked SOS, and were ranked #119 by Massey. Amazingly, they got a Bowl Game and won, but played an equally bad WKU who was 6-6 (before the bowl game), ranked #116 by Massey for playing the 128th ranked SOS. Possibly the 2 worst teams to ever play a bowl game .... but as long as the system rewards very weak SOS teams .. teams will do keep scheduling very weak OOC games on top of their very week conf games.

My biggest question with Kennesaw St is how will they do NOT sneaking up on anyone this year. I have to believe they are very well coached and prepare well for each opponent. I;ve never seen a team progress so much from week 1 to week 11 as they did last year. But now that everyone has seen their offense, there will be adjustments made by the better teams ... better because they have also have good coaches and players, capable of stopping them.

That said, I think NDSU and JMU are clear #1 and #2. After that, it is pretty wide open as of week 2. I think Kennesaw state is certainly top 8 at this point, based on last year and 2 games played so far this year. They'll have 2 more real tests this year .. Samford and JSU (last week).

Samford will test their D and we will give their O a helluva time. We will know exactly what KSU is before the postseason.

As a fan and close follower of the KSU program, even I am still trying to understand where we fall in the mix. I agree that we won't sneak up on anyone this year, but I would argue that we played well prepared teams in the playoffs last year and had a legit chance at the semis. Samford was our only regular season loss last season, they already had experience defending our offense and we were able to get the W in week 1 of the playoffs. I know JSU took us as seriously as they could in week 2 of the playoffs. I think our lack of playoff experience and depth played a huge roll in our 7 point loss to SHSU in the quarters. I know it's only year 4 of our program, but if we are lucky enough to make the quarters again I believe you will see a team that hasn't spent all of their emotional energy in weeks 1 & 2. Playoff experience is extremely important, and obviously we don't have much but we now have higher expectations and a coaching staff that will have the boys ready to play their best whether that's playoff week 1 or much deeper. I just want to know if that'll be enough? lol we'll see!

Maybe we need to combine our 2 teams and play those guys. I'm telling you, you have an easy time preparing a scouting report. You can know what their next play is, but just try to stop it. Also, you CANNOT duplicate that TO in practice. It is amazing how well they read and execute their options. On defense they are so quick and they tackling is ferocious. They may be small, but they have very deceptive speed. Yeah, I'm high on this bunch, and will rank them high on my ballot until they prove otherwise.

Respect to you guys as well! I was cheering very hard for y'all to beat FSU. I hope you're able to make it over for the game in a few weeks. I would love to see both teams firing on all cylinders and this turn out to be one of the best FCS games of the year.... as long as we win of course ;)

You said that last year about the mighty JSU D.

We held them to 17 and cut their season averages more than in half. Our offense was 100% of the problem in that game.

Only so much a defense can do when your offense can only put up 7 and they go 2-12 on 3rd down.

Last year was weird. We handled GT's TO better than KSU's.

FWIW the thing about playing multiple triple option teams is that there aren't two 100% alike. Even then, a lot of times people think it's some special unicorn offense (which to some extent it is) where the challenge is just "knowing how" as opposed to just executing. You can know how to stop a power I or spread offense, but doing it is a different story. When you factor in the fact that football has a lot of randomness in it and college football has so much variation in the personnel you see, I think it's fallacious to use stopping one option as an indicator of having it figured out.

TL;Dr there's a lot of smoke and mirrors around the option that I don't think is warranted.

Also Georgia Tech has problems.

KSU and GT are about as similar as it gets. Bohannon is a protege of coach Johnson.

GT has problems, but the only two teams last year that contained them better than us were Clemson and UGA. We held the Jackets to fewer yards than Miami IIRC.
