I think my Cowboys are ranked a little high...but, other than that, I like the top 10, particularly the top 5

I don't even need to guess where the 2 1st place votes for NC A&T came from.

Those voters were really impressed by what Stony Brook did to the Flyboys. W.T.F. Stony Brook had 75 total yards.

The Maine and NH positioning is still a mystery.

I take a swing at this - I didn't drop UNH out and Maine still hasn't made my top 25 yet.

Maine is playing at home for this one. The last game of their 2017 season ended on a Hail Mary TD that vaulted Stony Brook into the playoffs. This summer one of their freshman players collapses and dies after a workout. They come into a huge rivalry game as emotionally jacked up as can be.

While the game is competitive, UNH loses their QB, the conference pre-season OPOY to a shoulder injury and just snowballed from there.

Before you dismiss the emotion theory, see Maryland. Nobody will confuse them with Top 25 material soon (0 votes in pre-season polls), but there they go taking down Texas at home under similar circumstances.

I guess I just don't tend to have huge poll fluctuations based on one game with unusual circumstances.

73 more yards and they might have gotten first place votes.

i agree with your thought process .. in all likelihood, Maine is not as good as they played that one game. And UNH is not as bad as they played. I may hate that they are aan auto-bid at 7-4, but I doubt they will not be in playoff picture THIS season .. they have a lot back and finished on a high note ... albeit under very fortunate circumstances last playoff.

I didn't punish them because FBS games don't move my rankings unless they're wins. But if their performance was that bad and it's indicative of a trend, no worries, they will fall in my poll

Still not sure I understand the gap between Furman and Elon. Same number of wins last season and Furman ended Elon's season at Elon.

Of course, that debate probably gets put to bed this weekend.

That makes sense. I feel like the quality of the FBS opponent should be a major factor, however. To get destroyed by Air Force is something that should be held against you, IMO. To get destroyed by Washington (like is going to happen this weekend) should not. And so on....

Furman and Kennesaw both dropped two spots after losing to an FBS team. The two FBS teams were not of similar quality.

I'm biased in the sense that I know of a few instances in which my team played of carrying quality against varying quality FBS schools and it wasn't predictive of how good we were.

In 2003, wofford lost 41-0 to Air Force. We went undefeated in the socon and lost in the semis.

In 2010 we got beat badlt by a so-so Ohio team. Socon champs and quarterfinalists.

In 2011, we led Clemson at half time and only lost by 8. Were we a GOAT team? No, we didn't even win the socon or a playoff game.

In 2015 we lost to Idaho by 3. We went 5-6.

I'm certain there's more examples

But not the "more accurate" AGS poll.

If that's the criteria for AGS, then simply say that. No call for the other nonsense.

Its been said in multiple places multiple times....I even asked for clarification before voting on Sunday. Truth be told, I would have included you guys, but alas we have to wait for eligibility. Not a biggie....just keep competing and set the program up down the road.

Well, I didn't ask until then. I actually run UNA's fan site. So, the question was legit.

Are there any written rules for the AGS Poll? I'm very curious to see them.

Coaches and STATS don't seem to have the rule about being conference/playoff eligible.

It's the fans on the board ranking the teams because they actually pay attention to FCS football. I like it. They posted the requirement to be eligible a while back, I remember reading it. You have to be eligible for your conference championship and if Indy be eligible for the playoffs. No big deal to me. In any case, it seems like a good poll.

That's all that needed to be said. Not some BS.

I'm thinking of starting a similar fan poll for D2MB.

It's a pretty fun thing to do as a fan. You learn so much more about teams across the country when you're paying attention to all of them for ranking purposes. A few years ago someone tried to get a football poll started on NDSU's fan board (bisonville.com) but that petered out mid-season as I think only 10 or so people were voted which makes it more susceptible to wacky personal idiosyncrasies skewing the poll. If you can get enough participation I'd honestly say go for it.

I love keeping up with it. I vote in the D2Football.com poll as a member of the media.

I cover the Gulf South Conference on that site.
