View Full Version : Maine-New Hampshire Musket Game Opening nite will be the last one.

Looks like tonite's opening rival game between border states Maine and New Hampshire will be the last one as the CAA wants rival games to be played the last game of the year. UNH won last year on a missed x-tra point while Maine will try to end UNH's streak of 8 wins over the Black Bears. Maine will have to minimize turnovers and sophomore QB Chris Ferguson has a year under his belt and will have to deliver if Maine has a chance. Think this will come down to the wire like many of these games do. GO MAINE!!!

I like this game on opening night. An FCS vs FCS rivalry game in a week where a simple FCS vs FCS game isn’t common, especially a good one.

Well, I agree. Rivalry games shouldn't be played in September.

I like a rivalry game to open the season even if its a conference game as it gets kids to stay at school on labor day weekend especially FCS schools.

So are you alright with rivalry games in Augustxnodx

I get it about history and playing your rival on senior day on a cold day in November but opening the season with a rival makes this game so important as it can very well dictate your season. The anticipation and excitement to many fans is off the charts for this one. GO MAINE!!!

What was the initial reason that the CAA scheduled conference games, especially rivalry ones, in week 1? Just for that stupid CSL "TV" deal?

If Maine didn't have to play two road FBS games already in September, maybe. Also if Maine didn't have only four home games. This is the worst schedule in the history of FCS.

As they say it is what it is. Can't change it no matter how much we bitch as fans. It is up to the team to get things done on the field and keep the Muster in Orono. Maine might have the most difficult schedule in FCS the first 4 games with Yale being the 4th one after W. Kentucky and C. Michigan, need to go 2-2!!!

Great win. UNH has no answers last night for your offense. 99 yd drive before half was the dagger.

Thanks guys. To have lost 8 games in a row and 15 out of 16 to your rival but yet knowing you have played them even for many of the games has been so frustrating to say the least. Last nites game seems to have eliminated alot of that pain for now. Don't know how far this team goes this year but have to believe this defense certainly has the potential to carry us to the playoffs. Many of us thought Coach McDonnell was the alot of the reason with 2nd half adjustments, that certainly did not happen.
Just watched post game interview with Coach Harasymiak and he was very eloquent in his discussion of Darius Minor, who's family was in attendance, and what the Black Bear family was all about and how last nites performance showed that.xthumbsupx

Great job Maine! The box score shows this was a lot more than just UNH missing their starting QB. Either Maine is a CAA contender this year or UNH's playoff streak is about to come to a screeching halt (or both).

Although it's probably wise to hold off on putting UNH's 2018 season in the freezer. They did get beaten pretty handily by a bad Holy Cross team early in the season last year pretty and rebounded to make the quarterfinals.

Both

That wasn't the case for Dartmouth-UNH in 2016 or Holy Cross-UNH last season.

For whatever crazy reason, UNH seems to be getting off to slow starts in recent years, and then righting the ship when they need to do so.

While I don’t disagree with you, the coaching and lack of size/skill was rather apparent last night, might be the year where finally it’s not the case

Crazy start for Colonial .. Maine was 4-7 and lost 7 starters on offense, UNH was 9-4 and had a lot coming back. Then 7-4 Delaware had decent amount coming back at home against 3-8 Rhode Island and loses .. at home ?

Makes no sense, but I guess that's why we play the games.

Will admit, CAA seems to be regaining ground lost to MVFC from (2011-15) since 2016. The depth is back for sure .. this year figures to be another dog fight at the top.

Cannot wait to visit the Bowl. Went there as a young lad when the Giants played there as Yankee stadium was being renovated. Should be a great game.xdrunkyx
