View Full Version : Total Fan Experience

I like the way NDSU rolls. Their program seems to have much more attention to detail than a lot of other programs. More of a total approach to the fan experience. Are there any cool things other schools do that makes for a better fan experience other than win football games? Total fan experience stuff?

The coolest thing I think NDSU does from a fan experience standpoint is have a fan day every year in August about 2-3 weeks before the season starts. They put the full setup in the Fargodome for football and open up the field for the fans where they have some vendor exhibits along with inflatable games, poster/yard sign giveaways, and lines for autographs from the players. They don't count but I would guess that there's a few thousand fans that show up every year.

Next Tuesday is this year's fan day: https://gobison.com/news/2018/7/16/general-bison-fan-day-presented-by-midco-scheduled-for-aug-14.aspx

These are the things that really start kids at a young age...I still remember going to something like this back when I was under 10 years old.

The Bison fan day also includes a few stops outside of Fargo. https://gobison.com/news/2018/7/13/general-ndsu-athletics-and-pioneer-hitting-the-road-on-tailgate-tour.aspx

My boys and I drive 3.5 hours every year for fan day. It is always on Tuesdays.

Great fun for the kids.

He didnt fall into small children. I was there waiting in line in the student entrance that day. A huge gust of wind came up, blew him crazy hard almost hitting the student section, he made an amazing move to not barrel into the crowd but instead dodged the student section and went straight into a large RV. I was standing maybe 20 feet away and watched the whole thing happen it was surreal.

Whew!...When I saw the title and the originator of this thread, I thought it was going to be about how AMAZING it is to sit with 5,337 people in Samford’s 6,700 seat Seibert Stadium...as this year marks the crumbling edifice’s 60th anniversary of its opening, as well as the 59th anniversary of its most recent upgrade.

Carry on...

I’m pretty sure SDSU has a fan day in the SJAC. Not 100% sure, but I remember seeing inflatables and stuff in there.

Ditto...except the stadiums seats 16k+. Same number of fans though...similar age of stadium.

We have the ParaPokes who have jumped in the stadium for years. This was the Lamar game in 2016. We sucked in 2016 and Lamar sucked. This was the last game of the season and the attendance for it sucked. We also have a lot of other things for the fans, before and during the game.

https://gobison.com/news/2018/8/6/general-ndsu-announces-football-opening-weekend-kickoff-events.aspx

NDSU Athletics has announced two events to kick off the 2018 football season at the end of this month.

The annual SCHEELS Bison Block Party (https://www.facebook.com/events/629836840735176/) is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 30, providing a great opportunity for fans to meet and mingle prior to the fall sports season.

The SCHEELS Bison Block Party is free and open to the public and will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at SCHEELS at 1551 45th Street South in Fargo. Head football coach Chris Klieman (https://gobison.com/staff.aspx?staff=250) will be featured during the pep rally portion of the event.

The event will feature a free concert from the Front Fenders, and fans will be treated to complimentary Deek's Pizza and Pepsi products while supplies last. Bison yard signs and fall sports posters will be available.

Also returning this year to the opening weekend of football season is Bison Football Eve (https://www.facebook.com/events/213472472610015/). The outdoor fan fest is a free 21+ event that will start at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, in the parking lot west of The Old Broadway in downtown Fargo.

In years past, About a week before the season starts, the Mocs coaches have a women's only "football 101" clinic...It is a bit basic for some (but not the average). I know several that go back every year. Plus there is a fan day in the spring, that includes a free kid's camp/clinic. We have also set up a Basketball court and a wrestling mat in the huge pavilion next to the stadium (where tailgating, the Moc Walk and other festivities happen) for the first practice of the season...like midnight madness, but in conjunction with the FB game.

The skydiver jumps reminded me of something that happened when we played at North Carolina in 2008. The weather was a little overcast. Pregame there was supposed to be some skydivers jumping in. When it came time people were looking at the sky but no skydivers. We thought they might have cancelled due to the overcast. Later, we found out that the plane had been a little off course because of the weather. They ended over Duke's stadium a few miles away and jumped into that stadium thinking it was North Carolina's. So, the people at the Duke game all of a sudden had unexpected and unscheduled skydivers coming into their stadium during pre-game.

This will be the 23rd year of the Great Griz Encounter. For the first 22yrs it was downtown and the team sat at tables and signed autographs for fans while the band played and coaches gave speeches. This year it is being moved to Washington grizzly stadium and they are including a showing of black panther on the jumbotron to finish out the nights festivities.
They also added a season ticket pick up party Aug 9th
On Aug 30th they will be having "football 101" where students can participate in a typical practice with the Griz coaching staff.

Is it unusual for a school to do these things? MSU does most of these things mentioned, or variations of them, and has for years. I assumed they were typical.

Yes, I was there too and had a perfect view, but he did fall onto a little girl. Luckily she wasn't injured.
