I found were a writer on Sports Network ranked all I-AA teams. Although I do not agree with all of his rankings he doesn’t seem that far off so I decided it would be pretty neat to put together each conference and how they rank. Once again this is not my ranking. You can really see what conferences are competive and which are not as well as which just fall off and which are well balanced.

Matt Dougherty made an admirable attempt to rank all the I-AA teams but he ranked the mid majors separately so you could compare the mid majors to each other but not to the rest of I-AA. here is the link ralph.

In the spirit of brotherhood for our mid major friends. I have duplicated eagle 77's breakdown but the mid-majors. Bear in mind these rankings are compared to all the mid-majors themselves and not for all of I-AA. Have fun. ;) :) :D

Thanks Blukeys. This writer, however, has a stupid ranking system. Considering almost every prognasticator has Wagner near the bottom.....I am not even going to bother. Comical.

Looks to be another tight race in the Southland. Really, I can see 3-4 teams chasing the crown this year

thanks ralph, I checked it out. I admire Dougherty for attempting to do the impossible which is to rank every team and try to get them in their right spot before the first ball is kicked off.

While it is fun to speculate, No one is going to rank all the I-AA teams without controversy. I don't know who has the time to see all the I-AA teams play. The best anyone could do in person would be about 60-70. then there would be hours of trying to view taped games. whoever does this gets my nomination for the Presidency of the Get A Life Club.

Time for the old debate about central tendency vs. best teams

Here's how the conferences rate in terms of the median ranking of each league (central tendency outlook):

A-10 22
Big Sky 35
Southland 36
Gateway 38.5
Southern 40
Great West 48
Ivy 54
Patriot 56
OVC 64
MEAC 68
SWAC 76
Big South 79

The Southland is rated the most "balanced" in terms of the difference between the top team and the bottom team. It doesn't have anybody rated really, really high (8 is max) but it also doesn't have anybody rated really, really low (57 is the minium).

Sorry guys I was going to do the Mid-Majors on the next post put got caugt up at work and was not able to finish. Damn those people for expecting me to work for my pay. lol

I was also going to do the median but I see that JohnStOnge helped me out and beat me to it. I the link that Ralph has is the one that I used.

It is very difficult to rank all teams I think thats why the polls usually only rank the top 25. But since someone went to all the effort to do this I figured we should give it some use. Like I stated before I dont agree all the way either but most of the rankings are in the area of being correct.

While I havent always agreed that the A-10 is head and shoulders above the rest I believe this year that they may seem to be going into the season. They more teams than most conferences which should bring their ranking down but credit is deserved for having some great football teams comming into the season.

Now we just have to see who sticks there head up out of that mess and comes out on top and which teams beat the tar out of each other and get left behind come november.
