There hasn't been much buzz coming out of Moscow regarding Spring FB.

The below article is as good as we expect at the moment.

I'm curious about comparing this year to years past (both before you moved up to FBS and then while at the FBS level). You say not much buzz coming out of Moscow. This isn't a sarcastic question I'm serious as I haven't followed your program is this normal? What about before you moved up was there and when you were at the FBS level was there a lot of buzz? Just curious how the fans are looking at the program as compared to years past at both levels.

Idaho is pretty much an unknown for the upcoming season. Theoretically one would think they would come in and be ultra competitive this season since they are playing with guys they recruited to compete at the FBS level. On the other hand they got the leftover FBS players who didn't get bigger offers and who probably belonged in an FCS program to start with. I would say a .500 record would be realistic with maybe an opportunity for 6-7 wins. Here's a questions with them having to get down from 85-63 scholarships how do they convince everyone eligible to return to come back while taking less scholarship money???

As for "buzz," we aren't hearing much from even inside our own athletic department. We are in a small town with other small towns surrounding Moscow. Even prior to 1996, the Vandals were routinely covered by local papers during March and April leading to the Spring Football game.

Here is what our fans think (https://247sports.com/college/idaho/Board/Vandal-Football-103901). There is a split between our fan base of relief of 3-9 seasons and the others that still had hopes of a bowl game every year, which didn't happen. The loss of funding from FBS $, one less home game per year and having to play a DII team each of the next five years due to our commitments to play two FBS teams a year until like 2022 are the biggest complaints.

As for our 2018 season in the BSC, 6-5 would be realistic since we play Fresno State, Florida and Western New Mexico University. A 7-4 campaign would be success, according to me.

VBash you did a nice job of outlining the topic here. Gets people on the right track right away with the discussion. Nice work.

Here is a YouTube vid. It is more informative about the move down decision resulting from years in the making. Enjoy.

I wish he had highlighted the likely positives of Idaho's move to FCS but that wasn't the main point of his video. A good video overall though.

I think absolute worst case scenario, Idaho is a perennial middle of the pack Big Sky school that occasionally hunts for a playoff spot every 5 or so years. That's still .500 football and an improvement from where they were for the last 20 years in FBS. That's worst case.

They could possibly be a good Big Sky team that regularly challenges UM, MSU, EWU, WSU, etc. When you start winning more and experience more meaningful, regional football that you can physically go to games more often, fans will start to come around.

I wouldn't be surprised if more Idaho fans start showing up than they have in the last 20 years if they start posting regular 7+ win seasons. That's not something Moscow, ID is used to.

Your 3rd paragraph is most likely to me. They will strive to be a peer and complete and beat EWU, UM, MSU and that should make them more in the mix for the top. They are suited financially to be able to compete there or at least were before 1995. Idaho was a force it IAA in most years and they recruited really good skill players, lines, etc. I would think they go back to that more than middle of the pack.

We are very pleased with this recruiting class. What else should we know about Boatright? We hope he can play immediately.
