"The [Montana] football program has been dominant over the past decade, earning the title of winningest program in all of college football in the first decade of the 2000’s (119 total wins), including back to back national title game appearances under former head coach Bobby Hauck in [’09 and '08 and another in ’04]." Montana lost only 1 conference game in Hauck's last 4 years at the end of the decade.

This is a different FCS he is coming back to.

Perhaps, but my quote shows that Montana was very relevant in the decade of the 2,000's, which was almost all in the last 15 years.

I know it's hard for some of you to stick to the topic.

How is the FCS different now, compared to 2009? Just curious as to your thoughts. I realize that NDSU is the completely dominant team.

I would argue that there are better teams all over the FCS vs mid to late 2000's. The recruiting and stipends(FCOA) have definitely made a difference.

The Valley and CAA still produce stronger teams annually vs the Big Sky. Even the Big Sky has more parity. More competition. I know southern and app left.

Thx. Wondered what you were thinking. I think FCS is strong too and that new teams have replaced departing teams.

Hauck is a better coach now, and appears to have assembled a strong and experienced staff. Hauck has broadened his recruiting area and relationships and has some staff with good recruiting contacts. UM now has a new very nice Performance Center, which upgraded from horrible weight and locker areas, and gets its 4 scholarships back this year, I believe. Two good qb's on roster too. Special teams will improve. UM has a brand new, as of Jan. 1, 38 year old President too, who played baseball at West Point, graduated no. 1 in his class, was a Rhodes Scholar, was in Special Forces and Ranger trained, and worked for 7 years at GE.

As much as the football program has slipped, the University and attendance has slid more. It is hoped that Hauck and the new President will bring both back up the ladder.

Griz fans are hopeful.

ALPHAGRIZ1

Griz fans are myopic, we are 5 years aways from POSSIBLY turning the corner. We have a retread coach that never got it done in the past. That alone makes it very hard to see how he magically gets us back to being competitive nationally. He maintains programs, hes never built one at any level and we need a ground up rebuild.

How does Montanas recruiting class look for next year?

We got an interesting QB transfer in Dalton Sneed. On video he looks very athletic and has good arm strength. Drew Turner is a Montana RB prospect that looks like a good get. We also got the Gatorade player of the year in Gabe Sulser who has HR speed, he was NDSUs #1 WR on their recruiting list.

Other than that its pretty average. We need CBs and OL talent in bunches to start and improve depth and we got virtually nothing so far at those positions. Its very underwhelming class IMO.

The average idiot eGriz fan hasnt stopped jerking off over the "elite talent" and its "probably our best recruiting class ever" They are clueless as most think we can compete with any program in the top 20 when its clearly not the case.

Yeah, unfortunately there isn’t a team that has taken the last 2 of 3 vs the bison, built some incredible facilities recently, and made it farther into the playoffs every year for the past three years to give them some competition.....man I wish that could happen though.

QUOTE]

Not that it matters for the playoffs, but the Ivy has definitely gotten better in the past 15-20 years. There used to be only a handful of guys on every team with a I-A/FBS offer. Now most Ivy teams get 10-15 such players a class every year.

We're seeing a lot more Ivy products in NFL camps nowadays than we did 15-20 years ago.

They've won 20 something straight CAA games I believe. Even with their losses I think they'll still be favored to win the CAA next year just because they were that much head and shoulders above the rest of the league over the last couple years. I'm not sure who you can say is better. Stony Brook, Elon, Delaware, UNH... all of those teams would have to make big steps forward and hope JMU falls back in order to contend for the CAA title IMO.

I expect JMU to be good in the playoffs next year. This thread makes fun of the "dynasty" comments from some JMU fans, but keep in mind that there are only 2 current FCS teams with more than two titles.
