You can call me biased or whatever, but leaving Farley off the 1st team is a travesty. It should have been Taylor, Farley and DeLuca, but they would never have an all-MVFC for fears of "being biased".

Also, not having Wieneke, TC, or Lauletta is a joke.

I have Wieneke on my 3rd team and Lauletta on my 2nd team personally.

Christion is so spotty. He is like Briscoe. there are times where I am like yes TC is an All-American and then there are throws where he doesn't look close. In the WIU game, for example, he threw some really bad balls to Goedert that cost him a real monster game. Just overthrowing him by a yard or 2 feet or not hitting him when he should. There was an out route to Wieneke where he completed the ball only because Jake runs very good routes and if it was your average FCS WR the ball would have been picked or incomplete if the target had rounded off his route. You should sit in a film room with me breaking down TC and I don't think you would say he is a clear cut All-American. You can make arguments. I also don't see how people have Briscoe ahead of Hildebrand without anyone bringing up that for debate. I agree with the coaches that Hildebrand had the better tape.

As for LB, have you seen all of those mentioned? I ask because my 1st team LB unit as of now is DeLuca, Taylor, Teuhema, and Leonard. 2 of those 4 are getting drafted and the other two are big time players as well. Taylor had the best season but Leonard and DeLuca are the best athletes and happen to be real good players. Teuhema you could argue because he had some games with very little production but dominated in several games and his numbers have to be considered with the top guys. I really like Farley and had him as my highest rated LB on the 2nd team. I have 6 MVFC guys on my 1st and 2nd team defense. I think Keene is getting screwed the most by folks. He and Saunders are studs. Saunders from WIU is probably 3rd team at the very least and I also think Bilal Nichols is getting screwed as well.

I will mention to keep an eye on the pro day of Brandon Bryant of Lafayette because right now he is not really considered a legit next level prospect by most but he is so active and such a good tackler that if he can put up good pro day numbers and either convert to safety or test off the charts for a small LB that he is so good he could possibly make a NFL roster.

This LB class in FCS is freakish and after the top 2-3 I think you could put 9-10 names in a hat and just randomly pick your last 1st team guy and your 2nd and 3rd team lists.

You all need to keep in mind that when we are arguing over 1st or 2nd team or this guy over that guy for the better when picking All-Americans that we are still talking about really good players all over. None of these guys are awful players or we would not be bringing them up.

SHSU Defensive Lineman Chris Stewart should have been at least 3rd team...

His last game in the playoffs was a monster performance. Hall had a big game and he even beat him out. The one issue with him is that he was 2nd team by coaches and they must have seen more out of the others but I thought he should have been 1st team All-SLC. Stewart is a player. He belongs on the preseason Buchanan watch list and could be playing on Sundays come 2019.

Heading into next year here is my early 2018 Buck Buchanan watch list. Stewart is probably gonna be 5th in my preseason rankings for it behind Gooden, Messer, Buss, and Bridges.

DL Ahmad Gooden, Samford, Sr.
DL Khalen Saunders, Western Illinois, Sr.
DL Chris Stewart, Sam Houston State, Sr.
DL Chris Terrell, Central Arkansas, Jr.
DL Darin Greenfield, South Dakota, Jr.
DL Jaison Williams, Austin Peay, Jr.
DL Andrew Clyde, Richmond, Sr.
LB Warren Messer, Elon, Sr.
LB Christian Rozeboom, South Dakota State, Jr.
LB Josh Buss, Montana, Sr.
LB Thomas Costigan, Bryant, Sr.
LB De’Arius Christmas, Grambling State, Sr.
DB Marlon Bridges, Jacksonville State, Jr.
DB Deion Harris, North Dakota, Sr.
DB Rashad Robinson, James Madison, Sr.
DB Rock Ya-Sin, Presbyterian, Sr.
DB Jimmy Moreland, James Madison, Sr.
DB Jordan Brown, South Dakota State, Sr.
DB Robbie Grimsley, North Dakota State, Sr.
DB Davanta Reynolds, NC Central, Sr.

I have seen Bryant play and he is stud as he practically led the team in every category that deals with tackles and run stopping. I saw Leonard play against NCAT as it was their rivalry game and he looked good as he seemed to get 1/4th of all of their tackles or so, but if you look at Farley's numbers, they are IMO, 1st team.

122 Tackles
6 TFLs
1 Sack
2 FRs
1 INT

Compared to Taylor

162 Tackles
13 TFLs
1.5 Sacks
2 FFs

Compared to DeLuca

61 Tackles
9 TFLs
5.5 Sacks
1 INT

So would you say had Farley had a few more sacks, he would have been 1st team?

Basing a college all American team in nfl potential is....a word that isn’t PC to use

In terms of college play there is no 3 linebackers better than Farley, period.

woof, that third string QB choice is interesting. TC is a better QB than Lauletta because of his mobility and he should have been third team probably.

I was a little shocked they would go with him over someone like Lauletta or TC. I understand that he accounted for 25% of the rushing but only throwing 1307yds over 14 games is pathetic. When you have Lauletta who accounted for 17% of the rushing offense and over 3700yds, you have to shake your head and wonder what are they thinking? Hell TC was 25% of the rushing offense and over 3200yds, I just wonder how they can justify that.

I know we don't agree on much, but leaving Farley out of the 1st team was slightly jaw dropping.

3 points to make.

1. This is not all about stats. DeLuca didn't play enough to put up the numbers that you would typically give 1st team honors to but anyone who has seen him knows he is among the top 4 LBs in FCS. I try to watch the tape and go off how good the players look on film. I have seen a 10 tackle game not look impressive at all and then seen a 10 tackle game that was freaky impressive.

2. You forgot Teuhema on here and I'm sure you can see his stats are better in everything except tackles on Farley.

3. As for stats in general, don't get too caught up in them because I have seen stat sheets where they gave a player credit on a tackle when he did not even touch the guy until he jumped on the pile as the guy was going down. They should have credited only the 2 players who truly brought him down and I have seen a player given an assist and he did not even touch the ball carrier. There are plenty of errors in stat sheets.

I can't believe how much he stepped up this year. Saunders could be huge to our defense next year...quickest D-Lineman I've seen in quite a while.

Also, I think you might want to keep an eye on Jabril Cox at NDSU for the Buchanan as well. With DeLuca off to do some Sunday football things, Cox is going to be even more prominent in the NDSU defense. Barring injury, I'm almost positive he'll be in the running for MVFC defensive player of the year next year. Phenomenally talented and is only going to get better with more experience.

I was using the stats to not make a full point but to show something. DeLuca has been oft injured the last 2 years, but no one would deny he is a T3 LB. Taylor, is on a whole different level. I saw Sione play against SHSU since I understood the consequences of that game as well as a small part of the ULL game and he looked good, but not better than Farley IMO. When Sione got to the QB in ULL he looked fast and agile, but coming from LSU, you have to be at least decent, since he transfered due to team violations. The SHSU game, which to be fair, I did watch all of, but outside of that game and ULL, I did not watch him, but with that game, it looked like he was not as good as he was against what I saw in the ULL game.

Little disappointing that NDSU safety wasn't Robbie Grimsley wasn't mentioned.

60 tackles, 4 TFLs, 1 sack, 4 INTs (1 TD), 7 PBUs, 11 PDs, 1 QBH, 2 FRs, 1 FF

I saw him play against JMU and he was gunslinging it around. He looked terrific against that Delaware Defense and that SHSU game with no defense, he was just carving up the Bearkats. Considering Thompson only played in 7 games, I think that hurt their rushing offense and forced Lauletta to carry the team even more considering last year Thompson put up a 1000yd season as a rFR.

Great to see you have Jordan Brown on your watch list, he's quietly having a tremendous season.

You might want to keep SDSU sophomore DE Ryan Earith on your radar for next year too.

He struggled with some injuries early in the season, but over the last 7 games has 26 tackles, 8 TFL, 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 QBH.

Everyone talks about Samford offense w the great QB and phenomenal recvr - McKnight - but you are right.. Their D improvement - in part due to Gooden was why they made the playoffs. Beat Furman 26-20 and beat Wofford something like 28-26. They finally had the ability to hold teams down a little

I debated putting Jake on my list but watching when he got the ball he is very good. My big question is what will he run. If he runs a 4.55 or close to it then I'm good with him and feel like he goes in the 4-5 range but if he runs a 4.65 I bet he goes in 7 or as UDFA.

Sione is very up and down. He will dominant for a quarter or a few series and then go silent. The ability is there though. I think you can argue 1st or 2nd for him but hard not to put him higher. I try to mix my AA team with players who I know will play in the NFL and players who are good college players. I feel like Sione is a better NFL guy than Farley but Farley has better FBI and instincts so he makes some plays in college that Sione will not read well. To show I don't put NFL stock as main factor though I have the Wagner OT in the 7th round but I don't think he deserves All-America mention.

There are times I think Lauletta is a great college QB and then others where he is just an All-CAA caliber guy but that's it. I think he is a PFA talent and honestly a 50/50 guy for me if I'm a GM filling out my practice roster but many think he goes 5-6 range. I don't think his arm is very good and I would not want on the field in the NFL. I think he does good things but doesn't have great physical tools.

SLC has only 1 less than MVFC? Interesting. Wonder why they are only considered a mid level conference then. Looking at the list of voters I don't see too many "southern" guys for the SLC on it. Two things killing the SLC. Nine game conference schedule. Too many teams playing SEC caliber teams yearly or bottom of the pit Slumbelch teams/D2 teams. There is no in between there. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. Just too much talent on the fields of the upper SLC teams for the conference NOT to get more respect.

This is me personally, but I feel an "All-American player" plays at 100% regardless of the situation and does not go all Randy Moss on us and say "I play when I wanna play." I am not saying Sione does that, but going silent and disappearing does not look good when you got other guys on the bench who would do anything just to see a few snaps a game. If he is going silent then what does that say about his All American status?

I know I am using Taylor a lot, (I truly believe he is the best FCS linebacker) but if we are talking 1st team and/or 2nd team, these guys should be playing near every down. What did Taylor do when SDSU was tossing WIU around, go out and make plays by getting 14 tackles and a TFL to go with it. Regardless of the score, he was still giving it his all. DeLuca, same thing against SDSU by being around the ball and getting a TFL. Farley, outside of maybe Washington and Reth, I feel like is the heart and soul of that defense and when they needed a stop they counted on him to show up. IMO, having the instinct and ability to read a play is truly what sets apart the 1st team AAs from the 2nd and 3rd team AAs. That is not to say that they are not solid football players, but a 1st team designation, should mean they are the best at their respective positions. When I look at what the FCS produced, it would be hard for me to say that Farley was not 1st team. I'd be making the same case if I saw DeLuca or Taylor not on that 1st team as well.

Weineke did have kind of a down year. I was shocked when i found out New Hampshire was his first 100 yard game this year. Just drawing too much attention and Goedert doing Goedert things. TC's inconsistent passing at the start of the year did not help.

He may have been down in yards, but it seemed like he had a ton of TDs.

I'm not dissecting the lineups or reading the comments on this thread but my TL;DR is "why do we care about what the AP things wrt FCS football?"

They don't submit a top 25 rating, how do we trust these people to have a reliable all american list?

I definitely agree Taylor is a better college player. He plays with a higher motor. I don't think Sione is lazy but he seems to turn it up to a whole other level sometimes.

Interesting that Hagler didn't make it.

He definitely had himself a year.
