2017 MVFC All-Conference Teams
South Dakota's Chris Streveler is the league's Offensive Player of the Year and Western Illinois' Brett Taylor has been voted the league's top defensive player in a vote of league coaches, sports information directors and media, as announced by the conference office. Jabril Cox of North Dakota State earned both the Freshman and the Newcomer of the Year honor, while coach Chris Klieman has been tabbed "Bruce Craddock" MVFC Coach of the Year.

Streveler is the first Coyote to earn MVFC Offensive Player of the Year honors. Taylor is the first Western Illinois student-athlete to win the Defensive Player of the Year award since 2010 (LB Kyle Glazier). In addition to Taylor and Glazier, two other Leathernecks have won the league's top defensive honor including James Milton (1998) and Edgerton Hartwell (1999, 2000).

Cox is the first North Dakota State student-athlete to win the league's Newcomer of the Year award and also the Bison's first Freshman of the Year winner. Cox is the third in league history to sweep both honors, joining QB Sawyer Kollmorgen of UNI (2012) and RB Martin Ruiz of Youngstown State (2013). Klieman, meanwhile, joins Craig Bohl (2011, 2012, 2013) as North Dakota State head coaches to earn the MVFC's top coaching award.

Give me that 1st Team Defense to allow less than 70pts for the entire season.

That LB core might be the best the FCS has ever seen though. Taylor, DeLuca, Farley with Rozeboom on rotation would be a mean animal to face. All of those guys can play each position and dominate, but I'd probably put Taylor at the Mike, DeLuca at the Sam, and Farley at the Will, but if they went with 4LBs, I would put DeLuca as the spy and Rozeboom at the Will and Farley at the Sam. Hell if Rozeboom didn't play in the Valley, jump Cox up to the #1 team.

Interesting that Bruce Anderson got 2nd team all MVFC but nothing for Lance Dunn. MVFC.org doesn't even list Dunn on any of the statistics. Is Dunn not eligible since he got injured?

He had 80 attempts on the season.

No chance he met the qualification level for it.

He'd have been third on UNI's team in carries. 4th on SDSUs roster. 3rd on YSUs. 4th on USD's roster.

Fair or not you need a qualification cut off, and I'm going to guess the number is 100 carries (I in no way have tried to look that up)

Is Lance playing again this season? Shame to get hurt the way he did given the game circumstances.

I'm hoping blindly that he shows up in uniform during warmups either this week or next week (provided the Bison win this week) and surprises everyone. The torn labrum he suffered had a low end recovery time of 6 weeks and that happened on 10/21 against WIU which will be 6 weeks ago next Saturday.

Here is a post Professor Chaos made over on Bisonville.

Selections by school. Total and then 1st team, 2nd team, HM in parenthesis.

NDSU 15 (6,5,4)
SDSU 12 (5,4,3)
WIU 11 (4,3,4)
UNI 10 (4,3,3)
YSU 10 (2,4,4)
IlSU 9 (4,2,3)
SIU 8 (1,2,5)
USD 8 (3,2,3)
MSU 7 (1,3,3)
InSU 5 (0,2,3)

Nice representation from the Bison. About the only guy I was a little disappointed to see left off would be Caleb Butler. He had a nice year with 37 tackles, 9 TFLs, 4.5 sacks, and 6 QB hurries.

The play he was hurt on seemed pretty harmless. I thought Coach K said he was done for the year but hopefully that is wrong. It would be nice having Lance back.

Yeah, he did. But my hope is that was a little gamesmanship by Klieman saying that Dunn was done for the regular season and if he comes back in the playoffs Klieman can just say something like "Well, I didn't know if we'd make it this far so he could've been done for the year with a 6 week minimum recovery at that time".

First off, congrats to all the guys who worked hard and were able to get themselves on the list. I wonder how many of these guys we'll end up see playing on Sundays next fall?...I can think of at least a few.

Also, because I was curious...here's the list of All-MVFC players who we can expect back next year:

I'm sure there'll be new guys stepping up next year, but just looking at who's coming back, I feel like next year could be a really big RB year for the MVFC. All but 1 of the 6 WRs and 2 TEs listed are seniors this year, but none of the 4 RBs listed is a senior. Next year, Tevin McCaster (YSU), James Robinson (ILSU), Bruce Anderson (NDSU), and Steve McShane (WIU) are all coming back...as are honorable mentions Marcus Weymiller (UNI) and Max Norris (WIU)...plus all the other young "up and comers" who have just started to have exceptional games. And last, but absolutely not least, the near-unstoppable Lance Dunn (NDSU) who, as previously mentioned, is only excluded from this list because of injury, and who's per game average (excluding the WIU game where he was injured) this season was almost exactly 100 ypg...will be back next year.

Here's the MVFC All-Newcomer team for this year as well:

OL Tyler Ciurej, USD 6-4 310 Fr. Bellevue (Neb.) West High

DEFENSE
LG Logan Backhaus, SDSU 6-4 205 Fr. Spirit Lake (Iowa) High

DL Nathan Schultz, USD 6-4 270 Fr. Hartland (Wis.) Arrowhead Union High
P Brady Schutt, USD 6-1 205 Fr. Orange City (Iowa) MOC/Floyd Valley High

Also, do they not do a PK on the all-newcomer team? Or are there just not enough players who are eligible? I'd have to imagine that our (WIU's) PK Sam Crosa would be a likely pick for that. Sophomore this year, transferred from Bowling Green this season. He went 10 for 10 on FGs with 4 of 40+ yard range and a long of 45 this year.
