Fordham's class is typical of what the PL is having to do--recruit nationally due to the higher AI's and the need to expand the pool. The Rams have mined Florida quite well of late.

I don't know why he's not on the list; however, in past years because of the complicated PL financial aid forms that must be completed, some recruits have not had all the paperwork done by the end of signing day. This is why PL teams usually don't issue press releases until a week or two after the signing date. This press release is very early by PL standards. In the past only Lafayette has issued a release on or around the national signing date.

There are at least two other Fordham commits not on this list. On the Fordham board a friend of one of those three confirmed that this recruit had committed to Fordham. In that case at least, it is plainly a case of paperwork delay.

Lewis is a big get for Fordham and will probably see significant playing time as a freshman.

Ok, I've placed the link into the first post but I don't think that language is intended to apply to press releases. I'll mention it to the SID that the terms of the website literally bar the re-publication of press releases. I really don't think that language applies to press releases. When I was at Fordham, the weekly Bronx paper and some other local media often ran Fordham's press releases verbatim.

"Word on the street," whatever that means, is that the Patriot League as a whole did pretty well with their recruiting this year. We will not, however, have an inkling until these guys near the end of their junior season. In other words, if there is to be a League "rebound" in 2007 I have yet to hear a convincing case.

Interesting that we got that double set of twins and both sets from TX nonetheless!

I'm not aware of any existing links between coach's staff and TX but the Foley staff started our TX recruiting with a big OL (Brown) that saw some time last year as well as our backup QB who battled with Skelton for the starting spot last year (Jordan). Typically, we seem to locate a big Jesuit HS in a particular area to start off a relationship and then try to spread out from there. Again, though, not sure if we had add'l contacts that got us further entrenched there with this new staff.

I'm not trying to burst anyone's bubble and I'm glad for you guys at Fordham with the Texas recruits but... Keep in mind one thing. High school football is HUGE in Texas, these kids are used to playing in front of big crowds, being the focal point of their community and enjoying overall adulation. Many times a northeast I-AA school is too much of a culture shock for them, i.e. small crowds, unenthusiastic student body and a basketball culture that exists more in the northeast than in Texas. In other words these kids can become real homesick, real quick and transfer elsewhere.

I remember not too long ago we had a QB from Texas who came in with impressive numbers; no small accomplishment in a state like Texas. The URI campus and atmosphere was way too much of a culture shock for him and he transferred after one season. He ended up at a D-II school in Texas and had a decent college career.

I'm not saying this will happen to you folks at Fordham and I certainly don't wish it on you but it is something to keep in mind.

I'm sure Bucknell winning some games sure helped the Patriot League image. Lafayette has had some kids from out of state, and I've known a few.. some from Oregon, LA area..

Hopefully this Kansas WR is a star and gets the name out in the Midwest.

Not only are they coming to the Northeast but they're also coming to NYC - kind of a double whammy. We've been pretty successful in keeping our FL kids, though, so I hold out hope that we won't be too disappointed in terms of their ability to stick. Regardless, though, the question comes up of 'what's the alternative?'. At this point, the Northeast is just getting more and more crowded in terms of recruiting and if we want to find kids who can play at this level we need to go here, even if it does carry a bit more risk with it.

*The Pennsylvania Gaming Commission or whatever it's called has recently approved a casino site for the old Bethlehem Steel site, literally within walking distance of Lehigh's South Mountain campus. In some respects then, this is a serious question - What happens to a college when a casino is built next door?

The Casino will be located east of the Minsi Trail Bridge--about a mile away. The past president and/or the Board didn't want to make 'political' waves with the City's administration that was strongly behind it. However, City Council passed the ordinance by only a 5-4 vote, so I believe a strong Lehigh voice in the debate could have turned a vote or two. Very disappointed in my alma mater not speaking out against this project, which I believe will more detrimental impact than positive on the city as a whole and life in general.

I'm betting (pun intended) that strong Lehigh opposition would have ended this casino's chances since "strong community opposition" was one of the factors considered in granting the license. There were, of course, individuals and groups that opposed this site, but none so visible as Bethlehem's leading institutional citizen.

As for hijacking this thread, we are the Patriot League and it is a way of life for us here at AGS. We take pride in our hijacking accomplishments. More specifically, Lafayette may be last in PL basketball, but we lead all leagues in the hijacking of AGS threads. We are, in fact, BS (formerly I-A) - again pun intended - in this category.
