The Wedge blog post for this week: http://thefcswedge.com/ags-poll/ags-poll-top-25-week-6-results-2/

Pretty calm this week relative to the last couple. Not really sure what justified Montana picking up all the spots they did to get to #25 but that has been kind of the "no one wants it" spot for the last few weeks anyway. Maybe the Griz can break the AGS #25 curse?

Bleh. This is what I came up with after only 3 hours of sleep.

And because I know I'll be asked, I admit JSU over USD may be a little bit homeristic but I'm still skeptical of USD's defense. They weren't able to consistently get YSU off the field and they had the same problem with WIU late in that game. I think USD will roll right up till November 11th courtesy of an easy few weeks then get majorly exposed by the Bison D.

If the YSU and WIU games weren't so close I would have definitely jumped them up some more. I just want to see USD look like a defensively dominant team against a good opponent. In my opinion, my top 3 teams all currently have the best defenses in the division.

Spin it however you want but the fact is they went from 25 points in last week's poll to 147 points this week and that's after squeaking by a mediocre Idaho St team. It's pretty clear to me the gains Montana made were mostly due to the fact that the voters didn't think anyone else in contention for the last few spots in their ballots did anything either so they went with Montana based on name recognition.

Well if Montana gets really lucky and gets wins versus WSU and NAU two top 25 teams maybe just maybe you will vote them top 25.
Funny that posters say any road win in conference is a good win , You also hear got to beat the teams on your schedule.

Biggest surprises to me where that WCU stayed at #20 despite a loss (quality or not) and UCA was able to pass YSU and move up a spot following a lackluster win.

Not in your conference it isn’t. And if you would have not choked away a home W vs a mediocre and overrated EWU team then you would be ranked then. But that would probably count as beating the teams on your schedule I suppose....

Yes - two of the four wins are against Valpo and Savannah State - two of the ten worst teams in the country. A narrow win over Idaho State, and a win over Portland State.

Honest mistake... I'm sure NDSU would be in the Ivy League if they didn't have a self-imposed FCS playoffs ban. :p

I'm glad WCU stayed put. If Wofford is as good as our poll claims they are WCU shouldn't really be punished at all for losing a game like that. Not sure why Samford jumped them though considering they just beat Samford 3 weeks ago.

Bigger surprise is WCU takes the number 5 team to the wire and gets jumped by a team they beat (Samford) two weeks ago.

Yeah a harsh reaction IMO to YSU's quality loss. I didn't think it justified dropping 4 spots, especially with everyone behind them not having "wow" wins.

Agreed. Western Carolina should be above Samford especially since WCU took top 5 or so Wofford to overtime. IMHO that doesn't justify WCU being lowered or jumper by Samford.

So, wins don't matter?

They do, but it's one bullet point on the resume. Watching the game they looked like two very close teams. It's also likely that YSU beats either SDSU and/or NDSU and NDSU and/or SDSU beats USD. So then you're in the team A beats team B who beats team C who beats team A scenario.

I thought about swapping them, but ultimately just left them as is.

So you put EWU above NDSU last year after EWU lost in OT to NDSU?

Dewey

I can't remember, but I can guarantee EWU didn't fall in my poll that week. Most likely they rose. That was impressive despite not pulling it off.

Edit: Just went and looked and Eastern Washington rose 9 spots in my poll after that week. They still were behind NDSU, but they were significantly closer after that game.

McNeese lost by two on the road.

Nicholls lost by 49 on the road.

That's how.

Cowboys are looking better every week.

McNeese are also playing a softer schedule. Florida Tech, Alcorn State, SFA, ACU, HBU.

They don't get Sam head to head, and they don't get UCA or SELA until later in the year.

No offense to my favorite group of sandbagging fans, but you might be overinflating McNeese a bit.

Well if Montana gets really lucky and gets wins versus WSU and NAU two top 25 teams maybe just maybe you will vote them top 25.
Funny that posters say any road win in conference is a good win , You also hear got to beat the teams on your schedule.

So what? Different posters say different things all the time and you hold those particular posters to that...not everyone else. That doesn't really make any sense? The teams on our schedule that we've beat so far are not good so that weighs into it.

We are not a top 25 team at this point but we are getting better and to be honest there really are no other teams that should be in that spot either. We've palyed teams that are not good and barely gotten by with most of them and also lost to a fairly good one that we should have been able to keep down if we were a good team so it's tough to judge but I am pretty sure we are not good...yet.

I do think our two raod wins are good wins. Those two places are always tough to play at and I don't GAF what anyone outside the conference says about that cuz they are incorrect if they disagree.

Not in your conference it isn’t. And if you would have not choked away a home W vs a mediocre and overrated EWU team then you would be ranked then. But that would probably count as beating the teams on your schedule I suppose....

This poll was a train wreck to do. Not the top half but the last ten spots. I was trying to move some teams up but the teams that had impressive wins trumped them in my poll. I sure hope next week is a whole lot easier. I will not post by list, I never do but I was one of those that had "The Citidel" at 25. It would have been a long drop out of the polls for me.

They do, but it's one bullet point on the resume. Watching the game they looked like two very close teams. It's also likely that YSU beats either SDSU and/or NDSU and NDSU and/or SDSU beats USD. So then you're in the team A beats team B who beats team C who beats team A scenario.

I thought about swapping them, but ultimately just left them as is.We must not have been watching the same game because it seemed to me like USD pushed them around a little bit, they ended up with about 500 yards of total offense and YSU had 350 or so. Lots of penalties on USD, but I thought that USD looked like clearly the better team in that game even though the score was close.

When they were up 28-14 I was thinking the same thing as you were. Then USD let them scratch and claw they're way back to 28 all. If USD is one of the top 3 teams in the country they should have put their foot on their neck at the point. They didn't. Like I said earlier I could have flipped them. Might do that in future polls, but for now I can't say that USD is clearly the better team.

But the MVFC is the highest ranked conference, and has been for some time now. The team they played was top 3, in some polls, so penalizing them for the lack of "style" in their win is a bit much, IMHO.

I know it seems like slot voting, but it might depend on how apart the teams were in the poll the week before. Six games in is enough to stop with the random placement of teams.

If Illinois State was in the top ten and NAU wasn't in your poll at all; how do you justify dropping them fifteen or more spots just to add NAU above them? Also, that may force you to move down or up a team who doesn't deserve to be moved.

Samford and Western Carolina is a better question. It may just be the week in which the voters are voting; or maybe there is some doubts about Wofford.

I guess I am looking down the road a little bit, lets see what happens. I should have dropped Samford further after the ****ty win over VMI. McNeese and Nicholls was a coin flip for me.

For the record, I think most of these teams from 15 down are very average. BTW, my overall poll is very close to the end result of the AGS poll. I have all the top 25 correct and with a few exceptions, I have the proper order but I might agree with you on the Samford/WCU thing, we will see.

As a WCU fan, I appreciate that several on here are arguing about Samford being ranked higher than the Cats. Two weeks from now if things play out this way, the SoCon could be looking at 3 teams tied atop of the conference standing all with 1 loss - WCU plays ETSU and VMI the next two weeks, Wofford plays Citadel (probably get a boost if they win this game primarily based on Citadel's reputation from the past 2 seasons), and then Wofford and Samford meet after Samford's bye. If the poll really is supposed to be based on "right now" playing, hard to argue WCU shouldn't be in front of Samford - we took a top-ranked team to OT and Samford had a relatively pedestrian win against VMI this past Saturday. But 2 weeks from now if we all have 1 conference loss I would expect the polls to have us all lined up back-to-back-to-back and the order probably isn't that big of a deal.

Exactly. I'm finished using last year as any basis for this season. Based on what I've seen (or read) THIS SEASON, USD is the best team in the country. I won't criticize others for feeling otherwise, as long as they can justify their choice.... JMU, NDSU, and (god, this hurts to type it) maybe JSU all have at least an argument for #1.

This.

NAU seems to have been written off two weeks into the season. A loss to a P5 team and to WIU. Since then, 3 straight 18 or more point wins. Before the ISUr game, NAU's resume was better or no different than most in that 20-25 range.

What cracks me up is reading the MVFC prediction thread, where everyone was predicting a ISUr blowout win, but after the game the same posters are saying ISU sucks, etc.

Illinois State was ranked where they were based on impressions. Once they played a decent team they got kicked in the teeth. I drop them out of the pool completely. They can work their way in, but based on their performance I guess zoomed that I had them too high to begin with.

They’ve played better teams and didn’t struggle with a non scholly team. Nice try. Their two FCS losses are to better teams than EWU, in very close games. And they didn’t get completely embarrassed by their FBS team.

Two FCS losses compared to a team that has most of their wins vs teams that are softer than ten ply bud. Both teams have mediocre at best resumes, one played a tougher schedule. I would think that losing to a team at home that got destroyed as badly as EWU did vs NDSU would be a major red flag for folks, especially NDSU fans. But I understand a NDSU fans pumping up a weak schedule with what they’ve played so far.

Three big things happened in the WIU game

Look I’m talking this week he was coming at me about ranking MSU and not his griz. I don’t think that a win vs Savannah St, a win vs Valpo where it was tight at half, and a loss to an EWU who got totally exposed makes them a team worthy of ranking over a team who are a couple plays away from having two wins vs top 10-15 teams. If MSU drops another game in the next two weeks I guess I’ll be proven wrong on the team that was the least effective at proving they didn’t want to be ranked to me. They have a good defense and a qb who is pretty dangerous.

Illinois State was ranked where they were based on impressions. Once they played a decent team they got kicked in the teeth. I drop them out of the pool completely. They can work their way in, but based on their performance I guess zoomed that I had them too high to begin with.

We all had them too high. But it doesn't mean they are a bad team. They dominated three of their four previous opponents and the EIU blowout is looking better.

I do think our two raod wins are good wins. Those two places are always tough to play at

Hillsboro is always a tough place to play, with all those Griz fans willing to make the extra 20 mile trip past Portland and the Vik fans who can't seem to make it out of downtown.

Here's my poll. I'll address a few right off the bat. I'm sure there are others, but I'll take 25 out of 25 and be happy with my views.
1) SDSU above YSU despite the H2H - YSU hasn't passed the eye test to me. I raised them quite a bit after the home win against SDSU, but I felt like they were still high at the time. After a loss (yes on the road), they still don't have great QB play which is going to limit them the rest of the way. Their defense can only take them so far. If that game is played in Brookings, I think SDSU wins. End of the day, I need to see a complete game from YSU to get them back in the top 10 even though they beat someone in my top 10.
2) Illinois State over NAU. After reviewing my poll this morning, I saw this one and sent in a request to change. Not sure if it got made or not, but those two should be swapped. I even had NAU in my poll last week, so not sure what happened.
3) Samford over WCU despite the H2H. WCU won a close one at home meaning if it was at Samford, it would probably be the other result. Maybe I was overvaluing the game against The Citadel, maybe this was a victim of slot voting, maybe WCU's only good win so far was a squeaker against Samford - lots of potential reasons for how I voted, and I think I'd vote the same way again if I resubmitted.
4) McNeese over Nicholls despite the H2H. First game of the year was a LONG time ago now. McNeese looks a lot better now than they did then. Nicholls looked really bad against Sammy. If McNeese had a game like Nicholls did against Sammy, I'd favor the H2H more, but for a 20-25 ranked team, I don't want to see a 66-17 score on your resume.

Listen I apologize if you think I was coming at you. I really wanted to know why you ranked MSU ( I only saw one other poll that included them) you gave your reasons. I think all season the cats have gotten credit for "good loses" and their two wins are not awe inspiring. I agree Montana has not beat anyone tough and the season will play its self out and If deserving Griz will work their way up the polls. Hope we are good.

:DIf I wanted to be a jerk I would accuse you of keeping the cats in the polls as your only good win and say that if they lose close to EWU they would move into top ten in your poll! :D
All kidding aside good luck the rest of the way, hopefully the Griz make the playoffs and get sent to SDSU we owe you a trip. Would be a bad bad trip for Griz but fun for fans.

NAU deserves to be ranked but do take into consideration that you hosted two MVFC teams and went 1-1. Take that show on the road to the MVFC and the results may not be quite as strong. Your team does deserve a lot of credit for beating ISUr.

I'm a bigger fan of North Carolina A&T than most. I know the MEAC has a struggled nationally for the last 15+ year but this Aggies team seems legit. They've been thumping inferior teams like you would expect from a top-level FCS team. I'm hoping they run the table and get chance to host a 2nd or 3rd place team from one of the power conferences.

Hypothetically, what would happen if a MEAC champ declined the Celebration Bowl in favor of accepting a playoff bid. Apparently they are not likely to do it because of the big payout, but could they choose to do it?

If you had NAU ranked prior to this week you were insane, they got bitch slapped by WIU at home and their wins were over a ****ty Cal Poly team and a Northern Colorado team that just got beat by freaking UND, give me a break. Really, but I get the nobody else to rank deal.
Yet you include Montana after they had a fairly close win over a team (Idaho State) that lost to Northern Colorado?

I think everyone else's voting rights should be revoked and my lone submission should conclude the AGS poll. /Thread

I haven't for the 5 years I've been voting...why start now? Because the AGS village idiot dared me?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171010/a85dc4125a76a6f2c7866968570547d5.gif

Besides, your homely wife said my poll (& pole) was much better.

Too bad the self proclaimed biggest pole on the internet doesn't come with the stones to post a poll.

You keep being you man. We're all impressed with your ability to brag up the size of your penis on the interwebs and your inability to keep politics off the FCS board.

Been out of town, so just catching up...

Is it safe to assume you forgot Eastern Washington?

Yet you include Montana after they had a fairly close win over a team (Idaho State) that lost to Northern Colorado?

1. Safe.

2. I was struggling to find anyone...I guess had #1 not occurred.......

This is literally the most garbage answer I've ever seen, and not even because of where you have the Dukes. You should have your voting rights revoked.

Love you too fam

Last I checked, it wasn't mandatory to post your poll per AGS voting rules. Your idiotic post of cancelling everyone's voting rights deserved the response I posted. You being a consistent asshole deserves every other response.

Delaware is proof that coaching matters.....Yep, it looks like they are coming up from the ashes, I hope Rocco stays there for a while. We have a H&H with those guys, 2018 in Fargo and 2019 out in Newark. I am looking forward to going out there.
