I don't follow the SLC too closely, but close enough to where I know that these two teams are really good.

I'm going to go upset alert and pick UCA by a touchdown, mainly because the game is at UCA and it will be a night game, but this game could easily go SHSU's way.

I'll definitely be following this game on Saturday.

Agreed, Central Arky is a very skilled team and they usually play very well on their home field. It's the curse of those ugly purple and grey stripes!

UCA's Keys to victory:

1. Eliminate Briscoe- We all saw what happened in the JMU game when Briscoe was hurt. NOT that I am looking to get him hurt, don't look at it like I'm saying that in the least...but pressure him enough that the Bears take away much of that potent passing game.

2. Quit turning it over- UCA had two critical EARLY turnovers last year that put them in a hole. You can't do that when you are playing a team averaging nearly 600 yards offense per game..and like 50 points.

3. Establish the run game- If the Kats aren't on the field, they can't score. Problem with that is they score so quickly..especially against us last year.

4. Hopefully coach has looked at enough video of Briscoe's tendencies that he's figured out that if he's going to pass it, he tends to not even look toward the RBs. But that's just an observation from a amateur fan.

5. If the Bears happen to get down a couple of TDs, don't quit. EVER.

6. Keep the BIG PLAY to a minimum. Kats had 4 or 5 of those last year that went for scores. If we can't cover that then its better to commit pass interference and give them 15 then let them catch it and go for a TD. Yeah it might be delaying an eventual TD, but at least the clock is ticking and not as many points will be scored.

7. The newbies have to show up on defense in the secondary. UCA may lose this game and run the rest of the games and make the playoffs but eventually they will run into another team that resembles the Kats and have to play pass defense. Why not get it right now..or at least work on it more.

I don't think Sam fans will see many Bear fans at the game mocking Kat fans and saying the Bears will win this one. We know it will be tough with the TYPE of matchup we are facing. That's just the truth. But I do look forward to making it a better game than last year...and hopefully a sneak-by win at home.

I think the Bearkat Defense has caught its stride and looks like they may be able to play a complete game. The offense will be healthy for this game and Yedi Lewis will be 100% which adds a whole new problem for UCA. Look for Hall to come up big, either tipped ball causing interception or a strip sack to turn the tide early in the game. UCA is a solid team, but the Kats prove themselves against a worthy opponent.

It is a stable of running backs. I don't think any of them can reach their full potential at Sam because they are rotated out so much. Most running backs need consistent touches to get into a groove. They are all good, but nobody really knows it.

I've been higher on the Bears relative to most people (Top 10 from the start). Not sure if UCA wins but this should be a really competitive game.

I feel good about the Bears offense. We got 421 yards of offense against Kansas State with 223 of that coming on the ground with 90 plays total. Turnovers killed us there too. I don't consider Sammy to be on the level of K State but they are different in the fact they throw it a heck of a lot more. I think it will be a good game but win or lose the Bears have to finish out the season with wins.

It's Family Weekend on campus: But don't start tailgating until TWO because that's against the rules. Also when they block off the road in front of the stadium going from west to east except for those cars and trucks that go around the barricades and nearly hit your family playing in the protected area, just brush it off. xlolx Also ignore the construction to the roads IN the tailgate areas. Considering they are coming off a bye and had two weeks to prepare as well, this game will be a true test and we will have to play our absolute best to come away with a win.

You're not as bad as the Pud and MK but I've seen you throw your fair share of smack around here as well. I have no issues with a little smack, but don't get teary eyed when it comes back at ya. xthumbsupx

As for the game, I've been critical and still am of IMHO a weak Southland conference. UCA as well as Sammy are the outliers. The Bears have looked impressive outside of a kinda expected beatdown by KState. It's the best offense meets the best defense. I am a fan of defense. So that's where I'm rooting, but time will tell.

Daytripper, I had also commented that the 'Kats running game has improved. Have a lead late and be able to control the clock would be good.

I don't know about y'all, but every game (except for last year), the games between the Cowboys and Bears has been crazy with all sorts of momentum swings and bizarre plays, even more on their crazy field. But the Cowboys were the first conference foe to pick up a win there, and if I'm not mistaken, have won two in a row up there.

This was the 1st game this year our D has played as a unit and they looked good. Let's hope it was our real D and not a fluke. We'll find out soon enough.

#40 is Jalen Thomas, the true freshman out of North Shore. Highly recruited and has been recognized by several publications as one of the top recruits in FCS. He played a heck of a ballgame last week and pretty much shut down Damien JeanPierre from Nicholls.

I dont know how this game will play out , but the Kat run game is back with all running backs healthy. Offense is loaded all over the field. The team depth this year is what intrigues me. I would say this offense under new OC Tim Cramsey has the potential to be even better than last year. So far its definitely more balanced.
