I think this will be a much better game than a lot of people may have expected after last week. Obviously the Phillips situation just sucks, but Gresch Jensen only narrowly lost out on the starting job and has all the tools to be one of the better QBs we've had since Dickenson.

Not sure how well our defense will contain Eastern's offense, but I still like our chances even if it turns into a shootout. Rivalry game with a 5 pm start, so the crowd should be much more rowdy than it was the first 2 games. I'll go with 49-38 good guys.

Well excuse your insecurity as it's the conference opener for two elite programs with big question marks and it's been a great rivalry over the years.

WA-Griz is a tough place to play. Montana will be breaking in a new QB. EWU has quite a bit of talent still. Loads of story lines that most any fan of FCS will find interesting.

Freshman Gresch Jensen is the guy the rest of the year........................until our OL lets him get hurt then probably Caleb Hill.

Reese Phillips our starting and underwhelming QB went out with an ankle injury, torn ligaments and broken tibia. Required surgery and he is done for the season.

Most people are very high on Jensen since he committed, dual threat QB that dominated in the Oregon high school ranks. Seems to be a very smart player, fast learner. Many think he could be the next great Griz QB. Just young, hell be our qb for the next 4 years barring injury. so jury is still out. We will see how he handles the big game against EWU but IMO he is not the type that gets rattled.

But both team have the opportunity to improve as the season moves forward and some young players gain experience. Griz fans are fickle they want championships and wont give any coach a chance until they make it deep into the playoffs then they will scream bloody murder if a coach gets axed. look at phlugrad they were screaming for his head his first year and then threatened to revolt when he got fired. I have followed the Griz since the 70's and it has always been that way. this really is one of the best teams we have had for a long time. Stitt has finally has finally figured it out.

One got tentative and gave up, the other seemed to be playing with swagger and fire from beginning to end. I don't know how they did it but they studied us long enough to mimic and become us. One got tentative and gave up, the other seemed to be playing with swagger and fire from beginning to end. I don't know how they did it but they studied us long enough to mimic and become us. Odds are better on them building something than it is with us anytime soon. We'll need 4-5 years, minimum.

The Cats have a talented playmaker at QB, a solid receiving corps, and a stud at LB. That can get you places in FCS. Montana's D is the big ? right now.

As much of a MVFC homer as I am, I want to see a competitive FCS. Montana has a huge fanbase, them being successful is good for the FCS. Almost no parity in the FCS right now, maybe 5 good teams outside the MVFC, another 5-6 in the MVFC. Watching blowouts is not enjoyable. Watching bad teams play isn't fun either. This is just looking like a down year for the FCS (except the MVFC).

Are you sure? Regardless of the quality of play, the number of plays that occur will vary with the type of offense that is used. If I'm a hurry up team and use half of the play clock, assuming that I have the ball the same amount of time, I will get half as many plays off as if I used the entire game clock. I'd contend that its a function of the style of play not the quality of play. If your perspective is that the only "good" offense is to line'em up and pound the ball at the defense the I could agree with you.

Just remember to fire a few DC in that time frame. Running an offense that will force your defense to defend 90 plays a game is clearly the DC's fault and blame should be put no where else.

We are working on this, but it's difficult to run less plays when you hold the ball on average almost 40 minutes in those three games.

Fair point. I wasn't the poster that stated 90 total but I agree that's pretty low to almost unachievable.

I do agree with KP tho I'd rather watch a 130 play game vs a 180 play game. I've seen so many boat races that by the 4th both defenses are done. It's just a matter of who's going to have the ball last.

I've seen both with teams I love. I don't care, as long as the team is executing their game plan and they win. EWU has been an up tempo, high number of plays team for a long time. It's worked out pretty well so far. In our semi games against Towson and YSU, we should've, and could've won both of those games. We've done better than most other FCS teams this decade, so I'll take it. If the style changed to that like NDSU, and we had at least the same level of success, I'd be just as pumped.

That being said, as happy as I am about the win, I still don't know who EWU is going to be this year. If the second half is an indication of what we will be, I think EWU will go far. If what I saw for the first three and a half games this season, including the Fordham game, I will still be concerned. EWU is build to be pass first, up tempo. That works. Hope we keep it up, even if it results in 180 plays a game.
