JMU loses top RB Cardon Johnson for the season and WR Hyman didn't play yesterday. I don't recall hearing he was injured but it was odd since he was one of the top available receivers.

Neither is "officially" confirmed by Houston, but Cardon especially is very likely done from the look of it. Ugh. We have three other capable backs and we took the redshirt off of true Freshman Agyei-Obese who looked great late yesterday playing back up.
Additionally, our running back Trai Sharp's father passed away yesterday during the game. He was our leading rusher against NSU and played his heart out.

Big loss, but more than any FCS program over the past two seasons, JMU has been able to roll through player losses. I'll be at the Maine @ JMU game Saturday, if any of you JMU AGS reprobates see a big, old bas_ _ _ _ wearing a UNH hat it's likely me.

Elon's defense will have their hands full with Lauletta's passing. I think we have the talent to pull off the win. The unknown is whether we'll be able to execute to the necessary level. I'm betting we will, obviously.

I suppose our beat writer should ask or inquire if they're practicing this week. I have no idea. Houston likes to leave you guessing until they walk out to the field.
He probably feels like they have to re-earn their starting position or second string spot, especially if their back up has been performing well.

Maine @ James Madison - While the JMU Offense has been putting up massive numbers (22 TDs in 3 games) and getting a lot of attention, it is the JMU Defense that is the real standout so far this season. Over three games, JMU's Defense has given up a TOTAL of 170 yards on the ground and 458 yards in the air. Maine's RSF QB has not had to face a defense like JMU's in his first 2 starts (UNH and Bryant) and JMU's D will have their ears pinned back and ready to go after him. While it is unlikely JMU will win by as large a margin as the past few weeks, by the end of Q3 this game won't be in doubt. #GoDukes

Rhode Island @ New Hampshire - New Hampshire was embarrassed last week and will be looking to rebound. While Rhody is much improved and will make this a game, they won't be able to close out the win. UNH by a score.

Elon @ Richmond - Looks like the ticks got their legs under them after a few rough early weeks. Elon is surprising folks so far this year, but UR is able to win this one comfortably.

Towson @ Stony Brook - Towson just doesn't have enough O to win a competitive game. Stony Brook by a couple TDs

Villanova @ Albany - VNova needs to stay unbeaten against FCS schools to help get ESPN's College Gameday back to JMU in a few weeks. Could be a close game at the half but the wildcats have too much talent and pull away in the second half.

Bye @ Delaware - In a close one, Delaware eeks out a win and gives the game ball to Rocco for being the best coach on the field during the bye week.

Last week: 8-3 Season: 28-5

JMU 35 @ Maine 21 - life w/o your Johnson is an adjustment, but not a loss. (See Kaitlyn Jenner)

Rhode Island 24 @ UNH 27 -Rams are improving, but just don't close it out.

Elon 24 @ Richmond 31 - Lauletta just too much for the Phoenix.

Towson 7 @ Stony Brook 24 - Defense, defense, defense

Villanova 21 @ Albany 13 - The 'Cats are slightly better on both sides of the ball.

they have been practicing since camp started. still nothing like getting reps in games, but they've all been practicing (unless they are injured, and Houston is pretty secretive about that kind of thing until he gets asked a question). I personally believe he will take reps away from Stapleton more than anyone else. If healthy, our starters will be Hyman-Alls-Miller. I think.

My picks:
Maine @ #1 James Madison
- I'd consider the upset if it were in Orono, not Harrisonburg
Rhode Island @ #16 New Hampshire
- I doubt Wildcats were looking past HC to URI, Rams use momentum to create a winning streak
Elon @ #9 Richmond
- Both teams seemed to expose their opponents rankings last week, Spiders are better
Towson @ Stony Brook
- 3 straight road games catches up to Tigers, Seawolves have easy second half
#7 Villanova @ #24 Albany
- Wildcats best win is either Lafayette or Lehigh; Monmouth beat both (and Lehigh much more convicingly); Danes beat Monmouth, so Danes beat Wildcats

I think it's JMU then a drop to Nova then a slight drop to Albany, Richmond, UNH & any other CAA upstart you want to include.

I think it's bunched up from 3-12 & if Albany wins this weekend then 2-12.

The league is well balanced this year, aside from JMU...which, much like NDSU, has the looks of an FBS team right now.

Overall the league is 23-12 (21-10 Out-of-Conference).

I think we got our **** together last week after a shaky start. We're as talented as anybody at the skill positions, except for Trau who has developed a bad case of the yips after an all-american season last year. If we play up to our potential we should win out, the JMU game obviously being the biggest roadblock. Should be a shootout like the last couple years.

Is Maine that good or is JMU overrated?

Maine played a tough game for a little over 1/2, but did you look at the final score? 28-10. I'm sure SHSU rarely sees a defense anywhere near as good as Maine's, or a running back as good as Josh Mack. So your point 1, yes, Maine is good. On point 2, no, JMU is NOT overrated.

No, but I'll definitely stop by on the 28th. It was a great crowd today, the seats were full 5 mins into the game, and Maine made the game interesting for your fans.

JMU
UNH
Elon
Stony
Nova

James Madison
New Hampshire
Elon
Stony Brook
Villanova

Elon's defense will have their hands full with Lauletta's passing. I think we have the talent to pull off the win. The unknown is whether we'll be able to execute to the necessary level. I'm betting we will, obviously.

Maine @ #1 James Madison - 52-10
Rhode Island @#16 New Hampshire - 24-20
Elon @ #9 Richmond - make last week's loss look a lot better... 31-21
Towson @ Stony Brook - 21-10
#7 Villanova@ #24 Albany - 35-7

WE ARE THE SMARTEST.

Also, Pud:

No way Elon defeats Richmond.

LOLOLOL. Sorry about you guys losing your only quality win this season.

melloware13

Scores:
#1 James Madison 28, Maine 10
#16 New Hampshire 28, Rhode Island 14
Elon 36, #9 Richmond 33
Stony Brook 25, Towson 17
#7 Villanova 3, #24 Albany 3 - 9:43, 4th

I'll edit this with the acutal scores after the last game ends, but if Villanova wins, there will be a three-way tie for first place for the week. If Albany wins, it will be an eleven-way tie for first.

JMU looked like a very avg FCS team today.

That UR win isn’t aging well either. #sad
How bad is the SLC that your third best team can’t even remotely compete with you all? It’s looking like another 5 seed for the bear cats.

Things i learned today:
1) Maine has a legitimate defense... or they did today. Physical as hell and fought their tails off. Without question the best D we’ve faced since ndsu last year. Now if only they had more to their offense than Josh Mack, who had a great game.
2) don’t sleep on Elon. Cignetti’s getting it done early. I was really hoping that would be a cake walk into the playoffs game... sigh.
3) UR and VU are suspect this year. I guess it’s still early, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see them not really end up 2nd or 3rd this season.
4) the caa will have parity this year. Our overall conference strength is improving noticeably. Even URI is having a better year to date.

Reposted from Elon beats Richmond thread:

It ended up about where I thought it would. I go to about 2 JMU games per year, I didn't pick this one by accident.

Maine took a lead and held it for 4 minutes at the beginning of the 2nd half, but JMU showed they were a mature, championship caliber team by staying patient and on-task, putting the game away in the 4th quarter. Some who have posted about this game, simply don't understand the kind of team Maine has been for years. Although UNH has beaten Maine 13 out of the last 14 years, a team as strong as JMU is more likely to blow UNH out by 4 TDs than Maine. Maine is a tenacious, physical, defense oriented team -they can beat anyone that makes too many mistakes. They also have the 4th best conference record over the last 8 seasons after UNH, Villanova and JMU. Bottom line, the game demonstrated to me that Maine continues to be a threat to every team they will play, and JMU is still the favorite to repeat as FCS Champion.

JMU pretty well understands defense already. The bigger question may end up, what does Delaware understand about offense. Either way for the Delaware home fans, there's always the Beer Garden!

watched every play of Elon/Spatters. wow. Richmond is officially screwed unless they make major, huge improvements on D. not only did they get pushed around, they seem to have no concept of gap integrity. i’m not certain they make playoffs. Lauletta is a great talent, but is he trying to do too much? that can happen when you feel like you can’t trust your D. Elon was more physical than i remembered, but also made plenty of mistakes as well.

Likewise. I haven’t looked up the updated stats this week but I’m sure we’re still leading the conference in major statistical categories and are top 10-15 nationally.
The difference is the offense. Massive edge to JMU there.

UR in for a mediocre season. Lauletta and receivers are worth price of admission but both lines, defense, and kickoff teams are severely lacking. spiders cannot run and cannot stop the run. Huesman has wrong talent, at moment, for his system.
