I won't put too much stock in our performance on 9/2. UM-C has one of the five worst defenses in FBS - UND's is considerably better. By the same token, UM-C throttled Eastern Michigan last year but EMU still qualified for a bowl. I don't think our defense is great but I won't lose my lid until I see it against peer competition.

UND should win this, but apparently we now have an adequate QB and OL, so if we can generate a goofy score we have a shot.

Now that I have said my piece, I'll leave it to the Canadians to do what they do best.

They averaged 4.7 yards per carry last year. That was third in the conference.

We tried line-em-up ball against the NDSUs and UNIs and it failed. Our recruiting grounds aren't as good for that kind of stuff as yours, so we went to the Oklahoma/Texas cowboy ball. The jury is still out, but a few promising signs are starting to emerge.

Our RBs looked good too, but none stood out before the season so we didn't talk about them much. My main concern was/is with the offensive line, I did not think they could hold up. I admit they looked better than I expected, but our game last Saturday was an outlier for many reasons.

Well, we were hoping that returning most of the defensive starters, plus adding athleticism through transfers and freshmen coming off of redshirts would help fill the Dylan Cole-sized gap in our defense.

Early results weren't encouraging, but UM-C throttled Eastern Michigan last year and their season ended up going alright by their standards. Again, outlier game, although I have to admit our defense won't be "good" in the conventional sense (ex. having a 260 lb nose guard will probably turn out poorly in many parts of our conference schedule). A bit troubling, considering Stec was sold to us as a defensive guru, but it is what it is.

I had a hunch this would happen somewhere, which is why I created a dedicated thread for the game. I didn't want this to leach into the broader MVFC/Big Sky conference threads.

As for me, I see no merit in it. Both are teams are much different than they were three years ago, that game has no relevance to what will take place on Saturday, nor does it have any relevance to how your program will handle joining the Valley.

I think there is gonna be a combined 600+ passing yards in this one. Rushing will be just OK for both -- MSU's secondary is average but their receivers/tight ends are very good. UND struggles vs. teams that spread it out wide and go up-tempo. Tackling in space was horrific last week vs. Utah and they are a similar offense.

No, I was just making a joke that I knew would ruffle some feathers since NDSU fans took over the thread. It's not like head to head (this year or last year or any year) really has much of a bearing since the match-ups are random.

As I said, it took a historically bad UNI season. AAMOF, it was the 4th worst win% UNI has had since moving D1 in 1978, and that includes 2 of the first 4 years of being D1 (1978 and 1982) being worse. Realistically, it was the 2nd worst UNI team in D1 history

That was the elephant I didn't think had to be talked about.

Creighton is currently ranked 9th in the county
Wichita State is currently ranked 23rd in the country

Loyola replaced Creighton and hasn't finished outside of the bottom 3 and was 162 in the final RPI last year - 6th in the MVC last year
Valpo is the WSU replacement and they were 184 - 7th out of 9 in the Horizon League

Meanwhile the top of the conference RPI last year was 35 (WSU), 45 (UNI) 46 (MSU), 71 (SIU)...then a drop to 130 (ISUr)...then a 30 spot drop to the rest.

I suppose that explains the drop.

Though if you want to look at how goofy the RPI is - the Horizon finished 2 spots ahead of the MVC in volleyball RPI last year...let's compare the conferences

I would hope Texans don't appreciate good stouts with how hot it gets down there. You pretty much have to drink light stuff. (I didn't see oatmeal on the sell sheet, but I don't doubt it is in there somewhere.)

As an aside, that beer somehow gives you a coffee buzz and beer buzz at the same time. Weird the first time, pleasing each time after.

The most tragic part about all of this to me is, year after year, how much money could have been put into things that would have been productive for my alma mater.

We could have funneled that cash into general scholarship money, or academic buildings, the library, endowed chairs...

But no, every goddamn season we have to keep beating our brains against the thick brick wall that is football, and pretend our team will ever be worth a damn.

It won't. Everyone who pays attention knows it won't. OUR LEADERSHIP KNOWS IT WON'T. But they won't do anything about it because they are gutless, sackless cowards.

I don't know if any of you subjected yourself to MSU-UM-C, but UM-C had the worst defense I've seen for a team at that level. They were constantly out of position, constantly blowing assignments, and that's when I could tell what their assignments were. They tried gimmicky crap and I think it confused their guys. Our scores were for the most part by players who were untouched.

UM-C simplified their stuff at the half and shut our offense down in the second half. I kinda thought it was a false positive.

Our only shot at a win this year is next week vs. Murray State.
