With Western Carolina football’s continuing countdown to the kick-off of the 2017 season, in just nine days, games get underway this weekend as a prelude to WCU’s opener. Southern Conference foe Chattanooga faces sixth-ranked Jacksonville State in the Montgomery Kickoff Classic in Montgomery, Ala. while WCU’s season-opening opponent, Hawai’i, visits UMass Saturday evening in Amherst, Mass. Until Catamount football gets underway, today we highlight Detrez Newsome, a senior running back from Raeford, N.C.
