Lumberjacks to open spring drills on Feb. 18; Spring Game set for March 22

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - J.C. Harper won't make his head coaching debut until next fall. But the first-year Stephen F. Austin coach will begin to put his stamp on the Lumberjack football program when the team opens spring drills in late February. SFA will hold 15 practices, including two scrimmages and the annual Lumberjack Spring Game, according to the spring football schedule released by Harper on Wednesday.

The Lumberjacks will open spring camp on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 2:15 p.m. SFA will hold practices the following Monday, Wednesday and Friday, before scrimmaging for the first time on Sunday, Feb. 25. That scrimmage is set for a 2:15 p.m. start. The Lumberjacks will practice Monday, Feb. 26 and Wednesday, Feb. 28, then scrimmage again on Friday, March 2, at 7 p.m. SFA will practice the following Sunday, Monday and Wednesday, before taking the next 10 days off for the spring break holiday. The Lumberjacks will return to the field for practice on Sunday, March 18; Monday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 21. SFA will close out its spring football schedule on Thursday, March 22, with the annual Spring Game. The contest is slated for a 6 p.m. start at Homer Bryce Stadium.

All regular practices are scheduled to start at 2:15 p.m. All practices and scrimmages will be open, and fans are encouraged to attend.

The Lumberjacks are coming off a 4-7 season that saw them win three of their last four games and finish tied for second in Southland Conference play with a 4-2 SLC record. Harper, who served as defensive coordinator at SFA the last two seasons, was promoted to head coach on Dec. 21.
