Western Carolina senior all-purpose running back Detrez Newsome was listed on the preseason watch list for the 2017 STATS FCS Walter Payton Award, announced Wednesday. Newsome has additionally been named preseason first team All-FCS by Lindy’s Sports, and was a two-time preseason All-Southern Conference selection at both running back and return specialist.
